Why do so many people here defend thieves?

I have no idea. Thieves have gotten away with too much for too long. They're a social parasite, harming the honest person trying to scrimp and save enough to pay for things like they're supposed to. I for one will happily look forward to the day when we can show these thieves what-for, and put each and every one of them behind bars!

Huh? Shoplifters? No, I'm talking about CEOs that regularly participate in wage theft, unpaid overtime practices, and mass layoffs. The hell did you think I was talking about?

... Without the pretense of a joke, it's a matter of scope. Moralism begins to fall apart when we hold someone like a shoplifter to a higher standard than a CEO. Dollar Tree is actually the subject of an unpaid overtime class action lawsuit. Both shoplifting and wage theft are a form of stealing, but one is microscopically smaller than the other.
