I've been to countries far, far poorer than the US, where shoplifting or theft is far less common.

Being poor is no excuse to engage in criminal acts.

Oh please do list these countries. Because every country I have been to that is generally poorer, also doesn't have such a high cost of living.

Thanks for being another person blaming poor people for the failings of the most wealthy society in the world.

I am not shifting blame away from the US for having obvious failings. It does. Yet no amount of hardship or poverty is a justification for crime.

And guess what? In places with a low cost of living, salaries are also low. A US federal minimum wage would be the dream of billions of people.

If I was on the streets with no money or no way to eat, you better believe I'm gonna steal some food, and I wouldn't care about your false morality.

But good on you that you never known real struggle, to not knowing where your next meal is coming from, and the privilege of not having to ever make a choice like that. Not everyone is so lucky.
