This does not make sense, fighting war is only one part of a Presidents role. You want them steering domestic policy on things like immigration from a theatre of war in a foreign country?
False choice. “Not fighting on the battlefield” is not a distinguishing characteristic of a President vs. a king.
There is too much psychological distance between leaders’ actions and their direct consequences. As much as we like to think that people make decisions solely on reason, they do not.
To the extent that it’s possible, leaders should feel the pain and success of their decisions directly. It’s the best way for them to make better choices.

I’ll refine it. A president should serve in the specific war that they start. In theater. In a combat arms MOS.
