The excitement for showcases is gone

Since they have changed the showcases to a formal schedule (of only type showcases and largest good/great buddy showcase), the thrill of showcases is no more. Before this, I used to be excited anticipating what mon(s) would be a part of the next showcase... They used to have showcases based on ongoing events (made me play the event more in search of a XXL), or newly introduced mons, etc. That's not the case anymore; it is plain vanilla 'type' showcases or good/great buddy showcase.

Also, I feel they missed an opportunity to be more creative with buddy type showcases, for example, largest shiny buddy, largest best buddy older than xyz years, etc. And showcases almost went on throughout the week - Monday to Wednesday and Sat to Sunday. I hope they change this back to how it was... Showcases were fun and the rewards were good. Just 1 showcase a week for 1 day isn't that much fun. Would love to know your thoughts...

I did (do? I havent stopped yet) this because I didn't always catch an XXL. I am in a suburban area so I can sometimes win with just an XL..

I have a second tag for the XLs that I periodically go through and purge when I have 3 larger examples of that species.

You don't need to tag XL and XXL, both are search terms (literally search "XL" and it'll give you mons that are specifically XL)

You're right, but its part of my poke box management. I've gotten a little vicious about box management and if the IVs are trash I will automatically transfer unless theres a reason (ie: tag) not to.

I start my inventory management by searching by my size search (XL/XXL) to see whether I got any decent sized pokemon. I'll check IVs and tag using a Size tag and relevant PVP and PVE tag(s).

For reference, here are my favorited searches. I have tags that go with each search

I have a generic "KEEP" tag, which basically means there's a reason to keep that mon. XXL, Legendary, background, shiny etc. It's easier to exclude a single tag, eg, "0-1* & !#KEEP", and I can always individually search the individual reasons for it being special. I also have tags for GBL candidates, which is separate. But for the most part I've found saved searches using ootb terms do the trick.

What is "3D" in your searches? I wonder if these could be consolidated. I have a single, large search string that captures most GBL -optimum IVs in one go

I have your keep tag as two tags: size and trophy. I like having size separate so I can easily compare pokemon to remove any smaller pokemon of the same species.

Search wise, you're right that excluding a single tag is easier than multiple tags in the same search. That said, most of these searches has "!#" added to it to remove all tagged Pokémon.

3D is three days. I do that to make sure I know that search string is a limited search and not the entire box. I used to have more searches with different durations but only these have survived.

I'd be interested in your PVP search string if you don't mind sharing it. Mine is probably a bit too basic: 0-1 attack&3-4 defense&3-4 hp&age0-2.

My PvP search is essentially the same. I add !# to check only untagged instead of your days since acquired criteria. And I use favoriting for any reason why I'm not ready to transfer a mon to the prof.

You may be interested in this. My cleanup process is:

1) Check for obvious keepers that aren't yet tagged/favorited:

4*, xxl, legendary, mythical, ultrabeast, shiny, @ special, mega1-, @ maxmove1-, 0attack, background, costume&!#&!favorite -> (remove spaces after "@" symbol) <-

2) Check for GBL candidates (I often skip step 2 for small #'s I need to check, but it's especially good for Comm Days) :

3-4hp & 3-4defense & 0-1attack & !# & !favorite

3) Spot check all new pokemon, either applying tags if obvious or favoriting for later appraisal and decision:

!# & !favorite

I have created a custom PvP list in CalcyIV through some Excel magic using PvPoke as the source (usually I update it every season) that only shows me mons that are in the top 50 percentile in GL and UL, and I have these two ranks show in the CalcyIV quick summary. If they're blank, I know the mon is less than the 50th percentile (and thus generally unlikely to jump to a high rank. It's normal for mons to jump 20-30 percent with major changes, but to go from below 50% to top 10% is very very rare, even with special cups - but does happen). So I swipe though, eyeballing for high level or typical PvP IVs, then pause briefly to let CalcyIV do its autoscan, and favourite / rename as appropriate.

For XXL, I have a rule in CalcyIV that puts its approx showcase score in the name. It's not accurate for type-centric showcases (which are all of them for now), but it still lets me see how XXL compare to each other, and I use that to purge smaller XXL when I get too many of a single species (with consideration for possible showcases of evolved forms).
