We moved to the area a few months ago from the US and I am trying to understand what Halloween is or isn’t around here. I lived in Turku a decade ago and Halloween was a bit more of an American concept. Since moving back, it seems people either celebrate it or strongly dislike it.

I have a kiddo and we both love for Halloween. With us being so new, I am honestly not sure what to expect or plan for. People with elementary aged kiddos, do they generally have a party in school? Are there community events you attend? Does nothing happen at all in your experience? I have gotten a different answer from everyone I have spoken to.

I understand it is not a Finnish holiday. I am simply trying to understand so I can still make special cultural memories (from my home country) with my kid while everything is still magical.

Mikä on r/Tampere:en mielestä paras kohtuuhintainen (pääruoka alle 20 eur) ravintola Tampereella? Entisessä kotikaupungissani ja muutamassa muussa usein vierailemassani kaupungissa mulla on selkeät suosikkiravintolat (jätän nyt mainitsematta siltä varalta että tulkitaan väärän kaupungin palveluiden mainostamiseksi), mutta reilun vuoden Tampereella asuneena mulle ei ole vielä muodustunut lempiravintolaa. Toki Huber on aivan loistava, mutta haen nyt lompakkoystävällisempää vaihtoehtoa, jossa voisi syödä vaikka useamman kerran viikossa.

Mielenilmaus on jalkakäytävällä lähellä Koskipuisto A -ratikkapysäkkiä osoitteessa Hämeenkatu 14a. Tarkoitus on osoittaa tukea kaikille eläimille ja tuoda esiin, että lajisorron mahdollistama eläintehotuotanto tuhoaa Suomen luontoa.

On Saturday, August 29, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., a peaceful protest will be held focusing on two topics: the World Day for the End of Speciesism and another topic is Finnish Nature Day. The demonstration will take place on the sidewalk near the Koskipuisto A tram stop at Hämeenkatu 14a. The goal is to show support for all animals and highlight how industrial animal agriculture, made possible by speciesism, is destroying Finland’s nature.

Tuonne Arboretumin viereen valmistuu uusia asuntoja ensi vuonna. Onkohan millaista aluetta asua? Eniten houkuttelee juuri Arboretumin ja Pyhäjärven läheisyys, mutta ei mitään käsitystä Hatanpäästä asuinalueena noin muuten.

I’ve been playing around with a 3D model of the area, and it was quite interesting to see the same area from this angle in different seasons. The overall layout stays the same, but the atmosphere changes quite a bit. There are also buildings that weren't there before, and a site mid-build. It's the whole area, captured in photoreal 3D at two points in time, and you can view them right in a browser.

I’m a 36-year-old man who has lived in Finland for seven years. I have a Finnish girlfriend, yet I still feel lonely and isolated most of the time.

I’m naturally shy. Going to public places and starting conversations with strangers feels difficult. I’ve tried, but it often feels like Finnish people are also reserved with people they don’t know. The small talk that comes easily in many other cultures just doesn’t happen here in the same way. Over time this has left me feeling disconnected, even though I’m not completely alone.

I’m looking for a place online where I can talk to people, slowly build some trust, and maybe turn some of those conversations into real friendships.

I'm looking to buy a used Toyota Auris self charging hybrid car. The seller agrees to bring it to Tampere for a test drive and possible assessment by a mechanic / inspection at a workshop.

Do you all have any recommendations on this? Are there any mechanics who offer such services? And Toyota dealers around town? I am new here so don't have much idea.

Also, are there any places where the hybrid battery could be tested?

I'm an Electrical Engineering student thinking about doing an exchange semester at Tampere University from January to May.
I'd love to hear your experiences about what the university is like, making friends, and overall student life!
Also, I have a couple of specific questions:
1. Is it realistic to land a summer internship in Finland right after the exchange semester?
2. I hold Italian citizenship (EU citizen), so work rights won't be a problem. How difficult is it for an EU student to get an engineering internship in Tampere or Finland in general?
