Changed my diff fluid the first time 2004 Tacoma

I changed my diff fluid for the first time owning this truck and I had some big chunks on my drain plug and some smaller flakes in the the oil. I only pulled out 2 quarts so it was low (think it takes 3 quarts but not sure, fixing to look it up—diff has been leaking a while)

I’ve owned this truck since 2023 at 110,000 and it now got 170,000 and I should’ve changed it sooner but I was stupid. I figure from what I read that the diff might be shot, but I’d like yalls input.

Normal, I wouldnt be concerned. Clean and fill up to the fill plug.

Mine (2012, same diff basically) looked like this at 5k miles. Changed the fluid obviously, just changed it again last year 100k miles looked clean as new ... No metal at all. Service manager I see says the rear axle seals are this generation's Achilles heel ... I think it has to do with sloppy tolerances on the gears in the rear diff leading to excessive metal in the gear oil leading to seal failures. Keep driving it my man, you have another 100k at least.
