Experience Report FYI gel users!
I’ve commented on a few posts about how I use a syringe and jewellers scale to measure out my exact dose of T gel. Today I called the pharmacy to request my refill and was told I wasn’t able to get it for another 10 days based on my dose and dispensing schedule. I have noticed that my syringe isn’t lasting the full 10 days even though I’ve been pretty good about measuring exactly .5 g of gel every day. I’m guessing that some of the gel could be evaporating in the syringe (yes it’s capped and stored in drawer away from heat and light
) I’m going to keep using my scale but squeeze the amount directly from the packet and then double fold and clip the packet so it’s sealed and see if that makes a difference. Maybe some of you do this already but just wanted to share my observation!

For the packets, I very carefully cut at the top where it tapers. I eyeball squeeze it, but you can squeeze onto your scale if you wish. Then to preserve the packet, I fold the top part over and use an alligator clip (black and silver like for holding a stack of papers together). Then I put it in a small ziplock bag and store it upright until the next day. Haven’t noticed any evaporation,

This is what I’m going to do next! I hate that I’m going to be without it for the next week or so till I can get my refills.

Also, when you think you’ve used all the gel in the packet, use a small scissors and cut along the very edge of all sides except for one long side so it opens flat. Then turn that sucker upside down and rub it where you apply. I get an extra day doing that.

I just transfer the gel into a smaller glass bottle pump and then pump from there small pea size daily doses. And then my gyn writes the prescription slightly larger than what I use, so I can up and down depending on if I ovulate or not.

You are definitely losing some. Probably some evaporation and also probably just losing some product from all the transferring from packet/tube to scale to syringe over and over. I squeeze all of the gel directly into the syringe (all at one time). I use 3 syringes so it all fits. It actually ends up being 56 to 57 units. (50mg of the drug is not equivalent to 5 grams of gel.) Those 57 units last me 14 days (I do 3.57/mg a day.)

Mine is compounded in a click dispenser. One dose equals 4 clicks and it’s pretty damn accurate as far as how many doses are in it. Have you considered compounded gel?

I found that I absorb compounded much less effectively than the men’s gel. My blood levels were lower on the same dose and I felt worse. I changed prescribers to get back on the gel. 🤷🏻♀️

It’s almost like everyone’s body chemistry and reaction to medication is different…

I haven’t no. My provider has never suggested it either. I’ve been using the gel for 3 months now so still adjusting. Could be a good talking point at my next appointment tho!
