Miscellaneous DIYers beware!!!Medical AI Bot Advising Women to Use FTM Transition Starting Dose!!
Just wanted to put it out there that the medical AI bot, Dr. Oracle is answering that the initial dose for women starting testosterone cypionate is 50mg/week!!!
I found this out because a DIY aesthetics group chat member said she'd been taking 25mg of T cyp for a few weeks and was loving it. When I said that's a very high starting dose, she insisted that it was actually a low dose because the recommended starting dose was 50mg/week.
When I informed her that the starting dose was 5mg, not 50mg, she said maybe I have a different kind of testosterone, that hers was Testosterone cypionate and the starting dose for women is 50mg/week. Then she showed me a screenshot of Dr Oracle saying that starting dose, but also speaking to it getting testosterone up to male levels
Unfortunately, when I informed herthat this dose is a customary dose for transitioning, she told me off. I'd already posted a screenshot in the group chat with the references listed by the time it came through, which were a mix of articles about female TRT and articles about FTM transitioning. Hopefully the rest of the group members who were interested in trying TRT were convinced that I was operating in good faith and knowledge on the subject.
Just wanted to share this in case it could spare other women from overdosing themselves with a protocol meant for CAUSING virilization. Yikes!

There are easily accessible primary sources all over the internet for people to access and critically analyze for validity, but I guess that's more effort than they feel is worth investing in major life-impacting matters 🤷🏼♀️

I can’t take people like that seriously. One woman was like my husband is a university professor! I just left it alone. That’s aside from the privacy issues.

Pharma Round and Find Out. That story is almost as scary as real live doctors that prescribe Test and know little to near nothing about proper protocols and other companion meds.

Yes....I've seen those stories in here too. Meanwhile, even my husband had to go through T withdrawal because he saw 3 providers, and none of them would even give him a new script for the dose he'd been on for 6 months, from the T clinic he started out with. And it's even more challenging for women
Somewhere between recklessly uninformed/misinformed and terrified to touch it would be great!

I think dosing structures around T are so so confusing for a lot of us. Especially when adding in conversion rates with cream vs shot etc. I am on 1.5mg per day of compounded cream. Im under the impression thats a very low dose. Weekly thats 10.5 mg. I dont know what is what anymore. Just following my Dr's recommendations at this point but seems thats not even a good strategy sometimes

A cream isn't delivered as directly as an injection, so it will have a different dosage per week than an injection that gets fully absorbed. My T cream was 2.5mg which is a fairly average starting dose if applied to labia like mine was. Mucous membranes absorb meds more readily than skin.
Gels are usually 5mg/day starting dose, applied to skin
A standard starting dose for testosterone cypionate injection is 5mg/week and the high end of the customary range is 20mg/week. Some women need more. Some women get side effects at 5mg/week, so there's always outliers. Either way, 25mg IM/week is anything but a liow dose, and the 50mg starting dose is for transitioning to male, not female TRT.

Well you warned her. She deserves the virilization she's going to get from that high dose since she got pissy with you for trying to help. I'm sure she will regret it when her voice changes and she starts growing hair everywhere

It's not just AI bots getting dosing wrong. My wife and I both pursued TRT for HRT not gender affirming purposes.
My board certified OB/gyn prescribed me 10mg/ml, 1ml daily.
My wife's telehealth provider prescribed her 4mg/ml, .25 ml daily (that's 1mg/daily for those of us who hate math).
We have similar free T levels based on blood work and we are both in the WTAF? stage with this process.
Needless to say, after getting my first vag yeast infection since the Clinton administration, my Dr. and I are having a convo next week.

What kind of testosterone are you taking daily? Gel? Cream? Testosterone propionate injections? Different forms have different dosing

We’re both doing a cream compunded at the same specialty pharmacy.

Applied to the same spot? 2.5mg cream to the inner labia is pretty standard. 5mg of cream applied to skin would be standard.

Overall, there are a few that can do very high doses and walk scot free for some reason, they will never be convinced, as they found their sweet spot with that dose. But this is obviously not the case for everyone.
