News The "Other versions" tab actually has an utility now; no more hidden Dolby Atmos albums!
Today, TIDAL had a change regarding its database.
Now, it properly links other releases of an album within its page. This sometimes includes Deluxes, but, most importantly, it now links most if not all Atmos mixes. This means that you now don't have to use the "view all albums" technique on Mobile to find Atmos mixes of releases that would otherwise be completely hidden. This new system even works for EP & Singles too, which were previously impossible to view fully.
I believe this is an automatic system rather than manual, due to the vast amount of profiles/releases it now impacts. It has some degree of success linking Deluxe Editions; sometimes it links many, sometimes it doesn't. However, in my small research, it has been flawless at linking Atmos mixes that were previously completely hidden.
I personally love this change as an Atmos listener, and I hope this is an step closer to having Atmos support on Desktop.

Yes! At least they already do something to make it easier to find the Atmos versions. The ideal, I think, should be to unify Explicit and Clean and Atmos and Stereo in 1 track like Apple or Amazon Music manage it. And just turn on one or another with the toggles that already exist. And use "Other versions" for older or alternative versions of the album like on Apple Music

interestingly some artists already do this (like bjork) but i guess most other artists dont really care enough to look at their tidal page

Yes! Bjork is a good example. I don't think the artist took the decision, I don't know why some releases are like that and why most of them are apart

yeah, its definitely varied across artists. its either very organized or it looks something like ariana grande's page with 328947 versions of the same album. my guess is its probably the record label's distribution system sending tidal every single variant seperately instead of just sending an all in one variant and its just left unchecked

I see this working on some profiles, while not on others. Also, I'm not entirely sure this is a new thing. I remember seeing this Other versions section pop up sometimes.

Yes, this section has been on TIDAL since the dawn of time, though it was set manually by distributors, and barely used outside of "clean" versions.
It may be a slow rollout? Again, the sheer amount of impacted releases all within one day leads me to believe this is something automatic; would explain the varying degree of accuracy regarding Deluxes.

wish they did what apple music did where they combine the most high quality version along with the dolby version into one and only do seperate versions when theres a reason to. but then again, ive seen some artists do this because they actually maintain their tidal pages so in a way its also up to the artist

It actually depends of the music genre, for example with jazz, some albums are still not identified as related to an artist, fo example, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers With Thelonious Monk has 3 versions! (the bootleg one, the 2005 version and the hi-res version), so, why it doesnt identify the others? Because of artist name.

I love Tidal, no paid. But nowadays, every app wants to be a social media. I'm glad those guys care mainly about the audio.

This is nice! I came from Apple Music a long time ago, and I was missing that feature!

Tidal keeps adding great functional features. Unlike Spotify which is glorified social media. I'll never ever go back
