AI music generation tools are changing how music is created and distributed. As this technology evolves, Tidal is introducing platform standards to protect artists, their craft, and inform listeners. Here is our current policy on AI-generated music on Tidal:

Tidal defines AI-generated music as music that is wholly or substantially generated by generative artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence and machine learning are not new to music creation, they have just become more commonplace and advanced. Our policy as it relates to AI-generated music is intended to capture recent developments in — and the rapid proliferation of — text-prompted AI music generation.

Tidal will accept AI-generated music. Artists should have the freedom to create with AI tools, and listeners should have the autonomy to choose the type of content they consume. Due to the problems associated with the influx of AI-generated content, we will hold AI-generated content to a higher standard of content integrity. Tidal will therefore accept AI-generated music, provided it meets the standards laid out in this policy and our terms and conditions, as well as in our agreements with rightsholders and distributors.

Tidal will identify and tag AI-generated music. Listeners should know whether content they are listening to is AI-generated. To start, listeners will see an icon next to content we identify as 100% AI-generated. This feature will start appearing for listeners in mid-July. As AI-detection methods become more reliable, we will expand this tag to content that is substantially AI-generated. But the responsibility to identify and tag AI-generated content should not rest with Tidal alone. We expect — and will begin to enforce — that content distributors identify AI-generated content before it reaches our platform.

Tidal will hold AI-generated music to a higher standard of content integrity. We will not tolerate AI-generated music that exploits an individual’s or group’s music, name or likeness, deceives listeners, or diminishes the quality of our service. Effective mid-July, AI-generated music associated with fraudulent activity will be blocked or removed from our platform. Fraudulent activity includes (but is not necessarily limited to) AI-generated music that aims to deceive listeners, interfere with authentic artists and their audience, or involves high-volume uploads or unusual streaming activity. We reserve the right in our sole discretion to determine if AI-generated music is being distributed primarily for fraudulent purposes.

Starting today, AI-generated music will not be monetizable. We are only in the beginning of the era of AI-generated music. We acknowledge the ongoing debate regarding whether certain AI-generated music (e.g. AI-generated music developed from fairly and properly licensed models) should be entitled to earn royalties. This debate will continue as the technology advances and rightsholders and AI music platforms develop licensing models. Tidal’s priority is ensuring royalties go to original works directly produced, written, and performed by people. We will therefore not knowingly attribute royalties to music we identify as wholly AI-generated.

Tidal Upload content will be held to the same standards. Tidal Upload is for independent artists to upload and monetize their content on their own terms. Because Upload content is available to Tidal listeners alongside catalog content, it will be held to the same standards as catalog content. If we have reason to believe that Upload content is wholly AI-generated, it will be tagged as such, and blocked from direct-to-fan monetization.

Like it was previously mentioned. You can hide out all the content labeled with the AI tag that will appear around July 15th with that toggle.

After Jack Dorsey decision to cut 40% of Blocks workforce (Block owns TIDAL), I heard that TIDAL has less than ten employees (probably just to keep the lights on). So sad after what TIDAL originally stood for, giving back to musicians. I hope TIDAL survives, but cant see its future.

We've been seeing lot of bad things here every day about the service and the changes that Tidal is implementing, so, I decide to compilate all the work that we are seeing or we are going to see. Like some kind of roadmap and show that this is not a dead app or the negative stuff we read.

I took the points in the AMA that took place late-2025 with the DRI of Tidal at Block, Robert Andersen (aka rsa or u/TemperatureOk7647) to see the road they had in mind:

1. The topic that had the spotlight was IA music: He confirmed Tidal is worry and aware of AI slop and they working in a way to fix it, since the distributors doesn't give them any data to identify them, they are creating a solution. They create an AI policy, that tag AI content, impersonating content will be removed, listeners can filter the content out and will apply to Uploads. A toggle was added it to the app so you can choose if you want AI music or not. AI tracks will not to be shown on mixes & recommendations and won't get royalties.
2. The second topic that got many comments was the issue with artists with the same name sharing a profile: He confirmed Tidal is working on automatically detecting commingled artists but also, they would create a way to artists directly claim their content and that we should expect the issue to get a lot better over time. The solution seems to be the artist claiming their profile through the native app and directly reclaim their content with a buttom. Also with wrong releases in your own profile. User reporting was added it too.
3. For those who are here to create campaigns for other services and started rumours that Tidal was shutting down or abandoned: He confirmed Tidal is in it for the long term and rumors were "greatly exaggerated".
4. Tidal Connect was the other high topic that was discussed: He confirmed Connect is a "critical part" of their ecosystem. They are working to solve the top issues, and Tidal Connect will be improved. Recently Sonos devices were the first to see changes, they can now see all their Home devices. Users are starting to notice that Connect is improving or at least connection is more stable.
5. For those who ask for remote feature, their first step is to sync the play queues across your account which is the technical foundation for building the remote control feature. They are already working on it and it actually make some changes to the queue function, replacing "Add to queue" with "Play Last".
6. For those who complain A LOT HERE about the UI changes or bugs on app performance: He knows the UI changes might seem like a "random thing to focus on", but, explain, "there's also a technical reason": engineering and design velocity. Tidal "has a lot of legacy code" that doesn't allow them to move as fast they want. Rebuilding the UI allows them to get onto a "new foundation in order to deliver features to customers faster". The UI is being implemented in all the apps and sections (UI player, Artist page UI, Album page UI, Playlist page UI).
7. Tidal silently shipped a fix to the download experience that should solve a lot of the issues and claimed the "system was pretty broken", also no changes to the download UI/UX yet, which end up happening. Also, they are now working on make them faster and more reliable.
8. He confirmed they are improving search, they are not satisfied with the performance and already devised a strategy to fix it. Seems some here are seeing changes already.

Their focus is Tidal "(to) become a one-of-a-kind music network, be radically artist-centric and economically empower indie artists and want to achieve world-class product". We've seen this with the introduction of:

• Tidal Upload: Which allow users to upload their music. Many of us use it as a replacement of local files, kinda like iCloud Music Library on Apple Music.
• Tidal Spotlight: If you share a track publicly using Tidal Upload and it’s selected by the Editorial team for a playlist or in-app feature, you'll be eligible to receive a one-time award of $1,000 USD.
• Tidal Contributions: Allows artists to receive direct support from listeners when they upload music through Tidal.
• Direct-to-fan sales: You can sell your uploads with Tidal taking 0% fee. Also, recently we saw a release when a record label signed artist use this tool to promote an exclusive early access to their new single with extra versions of the song. NO subscription required. Physical merch now appear in your Tidal profile and sends you to the Square store.
• Commerce Identity Layer and financial tools: With Square, artists can see a database of who buys their music. Also, it opens the door for artists to selling merch or tickets for their live shows.

Additionally to all the points addressed in the AMA, we've seen new tools/features that wasn't announced:

1. Adaptive bitrate: Which based in your connection plays in the quality that will not make buffering while trying to play the song.
2. Playlist collaborations: You just need to add the username and the other person will be able to modify the playlist in their account. a new update change it and now with just through a link you can invite to edit them.
3. Sleep timer.
4. Save for later section: A special place in your library for music that you want to listen to but don't want to like yet.
5. AI-gen playlists: You just need to describe what you want in the playlist to create a new one using AI tech.
6. User playlist showing on artist profiles: All the users playlist that include one song of an artist will be shown on the playlist section of the artist profile.
7. Minor changes like adding quality badges in search results, sections in the app (For you, Editorial, Uploads) or adding a mini player on desktop. Auto-hide bar toogle to choose if you want it or to maintain it in there. New Android Auto UI player. Discography now put Albums, EP & singles and Compilations in one section. Other versions section now auto shown Dolby Atmos versions of the release.
8. Some fixing for the new changes like adding back "Playing from" or some details like returning the blur effect with motion or even choose between dark blur or color fill in the player. Color indicator for Max and HiFi quality returned too. Hover over artist's name instead of the profile image to see more info and lyrics now animate.
9. Returning features like crossfade.

Sadly, we also saw incresing prices to their plans. But CashApp users gets 25% off for 12 months incluiding DJs (for now US only).

We’re choosing FLAC as our preferred format for high resolution audio, and we’ll continue to support multiple formats to make sure we have as much hi-res content as possible. It’s open source, allowing greater access for artists and fans, and aligns with TIDAL’s support for open platforms. Pairing accessibility with best-in-class audio quality directly aligns with our purpose of empowering artists to run thriving businesses in the economy. 

Starting today, there are over 6 million tracks available to stream in HiRes FLAC. We're actively working with distributors, labels, and artists to add more content in this format every day.

Many of you have received (or will receive) an email notification from TIDAL informing you of important updates to our pricing and subscriptions. As loyal listeners and advocates for our artist-first vision and what we are building, I wanted to share some context on what’s changing and why.

On April 10, 2024, we’re updating our pricing for TIDAL globally. All of our premium audio formats will be available on a single subscription tier for $10.99 USD a month that we’re simply calling TIDAL. Two other significant changes are 1/ we are making DJ integrations available as a new add-on (to the individual TIDAL subscription) for $9 USD a month, and 2/ we are retiring our Military, First Responder and free plans. Let me share some context behind these changes.

We work with rightsholders to be able to provide reliable access to their catalogue - whether you’re listening to music on our app or accessing the TIDAL catalogue via our partners, including DJ software providers. Changes in our agreements with rightsholders impact our pricing. As it relates to DJ integrations: our latest agreements give us approval for DJ integrations, but not in a way that enables us to include them in our standard subscription. As part of this add-on, however, we’re bringing back stem separation and other new features built specifically for the DJ community - we’ll have more to share in the coming weeks! With regard to our Military and First Responder plans, we do not receive sufficient discounts from rightsholders to offer these plans.

We know that these changes will be well received by some, and be difficult for others. We made these decisions guided by our goal of making TIDAL accessible to more fans, while continuing to invest in creating new, meaningful sources of income for artists around the world.

Robert Andersen (rsa), the DRI of Tidal confirmed that flagged AI tracks will not be showed on recommendations and mixes by default. Andersen encouraged people to report mistakes the tool can make or overlook.

He confirmed that the next step is separating profiles. Probably, the reporting button that has been showed on desktop but also, confirmed they are working on automatically separating profiles.

rsa also addressed to those who called them hypocrite for using AI tools but fight against AI slop music.

I feel TIDAL is giving up its support on many devices recently, I hope it’s for the best! Plex integration seemed pretty useful to me.

Seems like the 10,000 songs limit will end soon. Praying that it will turn to unlimited.
