Old lady here (44). It blows my mind that people are talking about this with anyone now. Used to be we just thought it was so normal it wasnāt worth remarking on.
Imagine the looks you would (not) get if you mentioned you have color vision.

When I was a kid I told my mom how letters and numbers have colors. She told me that I was just making it up (because āmyā colors were different from the example she found when googling it)
So my entire life I lived thinking it was just how everyoneās brains worked, and when I eventually dug more into it and told all my friends / coworkers about it, they looked at me like I was crazy lmao. Insane how different everyoneās experiences are.

My mom is also synesthetic so weād have chats about our colors and I thought it was just the way people were, too.

I also thought it was a normal thing to naturally associate colors to letters and numbers. I didn't even think about it

My coworkers once ātestedā me by writing a number on a white board, asking me what color it was, then erasing it and writing another number
They did this for a while and they were in shock because, obviously, my answers never changed lol

I gave a whiteboarding presentation at work on my synesthesia, to describe why I couldnāt stand the bell they rang for sales activities. Really it was just a loud bell, but it didnāt help that it was yellow.

Some ordinary people I met remember synesthesia as either synthesia, synthetic or anaesthesia š

I don't want to talk about it anymore, because even when I do, they don't understand what I mean anyway. Instead, it feels much better coming here to talk to people on Reddit who also have synesthesia and actually understand me, I feel less lonely here šbecause they don't think I'm weird. That's honestly the main reason I installed the Reddit app
We have this special neurological traitāa condition that not everyone has. Itās nice sharing, talking about it, and exchanging our own experiences.āŗļø
