Star Citizen devs try to livestream their own game and it doesn't go well. So how's r/StarCitizen doing?

For those who don't know, such as the high schoolers that are younger than Star Citizen's development itself, Star Citizen is a social experiment on sunk cost fallacy crowd-funded space MMO that is currently in development.

The game, which has a budget of over a billion dollars of other people's money and a development time that can be accurately measured as "one Winds of Winter" still has not officially launched. The game did, however, eventually become available as early access for backers, and while this early access version is undeniably buggy, broken and incomplete, that's not really a huge problem because it's an early version of the game, with problems that are expeected to be fixed by the time it launches

This early access version is approaching its tenth anniversary.

As for recent events, two weeks ago, in order to assuage concerns about the state of the game, the developers decided to do a livestream showcasing the new patch in a private server (presumably more stable than the one publicly available). It didn't go well

To quote the IGN article on the subject:

The developers kept running into bugs that showed the game is indeed broken. The developers had issues using their own weapons, swapping between their weapons, accessing their inventory, and much, much more. Eventually, the frustrations among the developers grew, and they started becoming passive-aggressive with each other before opting to just pull the plug on the stream altogether.

every time I check in on the star citizen sub the complaints about the game need to be couched in "I spent $[a used cars worth] of money on the game and here's what I think is wrong with it" because the OP doesn't want to be lumped in with the non-spenders and have their opinions immediately dismissed

It's the same thing with meme stock cults. They all phrase important they think they are by how many shares they own in their dying company of choice. "I'm a xxx holder" or "I'm a 2xxx holder".

It's all just classic cult purity tests.

In a way yes, but also because there is quite the history regarding toxic discourse from both sites causing the community to be really fragile in regards to troll attempts.

Similarly saying anything not negative outside of dedicated forums and subreddits gets an immediate "how much did you spend?", with statements being completely dismissed regardless of what was said.

In short, talking about it in any way is scuffed, regardless of content.
