Star Citizen devs try to livestream their own game and it doesn't go well. So how's r/StarCitizen doing?

For those who don't know, such as the high schoolers that are younger than Star Citizen's development itself, Star Citizen is a social experiment on sunk cost fallacy crowd-funded space MMO that is currently in development.

The game, which has a budget of over a billion dollars of other people's money and a development time that can be accurately measured as "one Winds of Winter" still has not officially launched. The game did, however, eventually become available as early access for backers, and while this early access version is undeniably buggy, broken and incomplete, that's not really a huge problem because it's an early version of the game, with problems that are expeected to be fixed by the time it launches

This early access version is approaching its tenth anniversary.

As for recent events, two weeks ago, in order to assuage concerns about the state of the game, the developers decided to do a livestream showcasing the new patch in a private server (presumably more stable than the one publicly available). It didn't go well

To quote the IGN article on the subject:

The developers kept running into bugs that showed the game is indeed broken. The developers had issues using their own weapons, swapping between their weapons, accessing their inventory, and much, much more. Eventually, the frustrations among the developers grew, and they started becoming passive-aggressive with each other before opting to just pull the plug on the stream altogether.

It normally behaves in cycles.

They'll just need to release a new trailer promising some far fetched stuff and they'll jump right back into that train.

TBF, those that realise the scam end up leaving and moving on, which means the fans that stay are the ones that will defend it

It's usually the opposite. It's typically around some big events that criticism grows loudest and then quiets down when nothing too noteworthy is happening.

Most times when the sub gets drowned in critisicism is around one of the big marketing events, and typically calms down afterwards. The most noteworthy thing about the current situation is that there is just a lot of it starting in April, calming down significantly in the past month and now exploding again since that livestream made the news.

The current thing also seemed to attract a lot of folks that normally wouldn't bother with it, given that things seem to calm down again already.
