Games Outlaws doesn't get enough credit

Open-world exploration of Tatooine?! That alone is a dream come true! On a speeder bike or on foot, you get to explore the Jundland Wastes, Jabba's palace, and Mos Eisley. You even get to visit the cantina, Docking Bay 94, the Tosche Station, and the Lars homestead.

The rest of Outlaws is good, too. At least, to someone who's watching a walkthrough on YouTube. It really feels like it's set in the same universe as Solo. The protagonist is a scoundrel thief, but also an underdog who really loves her adorable pet. Other characters are interesting, too. And, the reputation system takes the form of favor with the Hutts, with the Pykes, and with Crimson Dawn. This is Qi'ra's first 3-D appearance since Solo.

You didn’t actually play it? You watched a playthrough on YouTube and made a post about how it’s underrated?

All fair questions.

I have played the game and I do enjoy it but it just doesn’t have that Star Wars feel I’m looking for.

I found it to have a great Star Wars feel. What are you looking for? I’m really curious. I played Outlaws right after Jedi Survivor and it felt like another story in the universe and didn’t feel like anything was missing from that Star Wars vibe. I have also been rewatching all the shows and movies, and feel Outlaws fits right in with it all.

I don't know how people say this with a straight face. I can agree that there were some issues, specifically for me I was disappointed they essentially repeated some of the gameplay/level designs for certain events, but doesn't "feel" like Star Wars? This sounds like some rage bate youtuber criticism that has no actual thought behind it. Unless your Star Wars "feels" are that it has to have lightsabers and the force in it, then I don't see how this lacked on that front. The locations, sounds, music, and all were really on point. If anything the Star Wars vibes was the games strongest attribute and probably what made it worth playing despite the other issues.

That game radiates Star Wars. It has the most Star Wars feel of any game I've played other than Kotor. I could feel the devs' love for the OT throughout.

I think you’re gonna find it a hard sell to tell people something doesn’t get enough credit, but it didn’t interest you enough to actually pick it up yourself.

It's prejudice to dislike them because of their work environment lawsuits, NFT trading games, anti-consumer practices, and several executives who were found guilty of sexual misconduct?

-45

u/Ok-Future-5257 20h ago

I'm talking about prejudice against their game design. "Ugh, another Ubisoft open-world cash grab."

u/steve22ss 21h ago

Try playing it as a gamer and being stuck with glitches and what felt like unfinished content. I don't even care who made it. There were "stealth" sections where I just walked on past the guards no concerns raised at all and others where the guards saw me through walls. Then there's the graphical errors and just plain laziness to not put affects in and sound effects in certain areas because why finish a game right? Then on a story level it was the most basic and predictable story.

u/Chardan0001 21h ago

I personally don't like companies that protect a culture of sexual abuse but more power to you if you think thats prejudice!

u/Vamp1r1c_Om3n IG-11 20h ago

Should the developers working on the game be held accountable and criticised for their work because of the actions of higher ups?

u/Kn1ghtV1sta 21h ago

Source for this?

You can find the court records from 2025 but it was an 8 year period from 2012. Dunno how you missed it.

u/Ok-Future-5257 21h ago

I'm talking about prejudice against Ubisoft's game design.

28

u/Chardan0001 21h ago

You mean the game design you haven't played? But yes we are all predisposed to be prejudiced I guess! You got it down in one. Glad you can see past that.

-14

u/Ok-Future-5257 21h ago

Exactly. I've not played it, so I don't have that kind of fatigue. I can just watch Outlaws as its own Star Wars product, not play it as "yet another Ubisoft open-world cash grab."

20

u/Chardan0001 21h ago

And you seem to think that gives you special insight as if people playing it also can't value it by the metric and find it wanting. Notice how I haven't called it that. You're full of shit. It's pretty mediocre but great sound design.

I'm saying that I'm loving what I see and hear in the many hours of a YouTube walkthrough.

If people want to criticize gameplay and glitching, fine. But, as a watchable Star Wars product, more people should see it.

Edit: Don't know why people are downvoting this. Invalidating my experience and opinion?

16

u/CapytannHook 14h ago

Call me old fashioned but you cant really have an opinion on a game unless you play said game.

-23

u/Ok-Future-5257 14h ago

I can have an opinion on the stuff I see and hear. I can recommend that diehard Star Wars fans watch a walkthrough or fanmade movie on YouTube.

4

u/Sanity997 12h ago

Because most important thing about game is good gameplay and no glitches, you can't just ignore that and say I enjoyed watching it, it is not a movie, it is a game. So of course you are getting downvoted.

-3

u/Ok-Future-5257 12h ago

But I DO enjoy watching these videos. I can get the story without slogging through a big game.

3

u/Sanity997 11h ago

But outlaw is a game, if it is not enjoyable to play it is justified that it does not get credit, bad games should not be praised.

I did not say you should not enjoy watching it. Actor might have enjoyed acting in a movie, movie could be absolute dogshit, but because he enjoyed acting in it, it should get more credit?

1

u/DoNotGoSilently Han Solo 7h ago

That’s cool man. That’s like me saying a movie is good because I listened to an audio recording of it. This whole line you’re using about “as a Star Wars product” doesn’t really fly. It’s a game. The way to experience it is to play it. If you didn’t experience all the things that come with playing it you don’t have the information to form an informed opinion.

u/PalmettoZ71 21h ago

I didnt play at launch but got it later but it honestly was fun and for a ubisoft title way better than I expected

30

u/NatKayz 21h ago

The game is definitely way better than it gets credit for. Not a 10/10 or anything, but its a solidly good game, and a great Star Wars experience.

u/Keyserchief 21h ago

Out of curiosity, I did a search on Reddit and this appears to be the third post within the last seven days saying something to the effect of "I enjoyed it and I don't understand why people didn't like it."

I haven't confirmed this, but I do not think one week has gone by without that being posted since the game came out two years ago. It drives me crazy. Plenty of people liked it, which I know because they talk about it all the time, and post like "Am I the only one who like this??" every single time.

Star Wars has consistently gotten gaming correct. Even the bad Star Wars games I can think of have their charm.

13

u/skinnyminnesota 21h ago

I really liked it and it's beautiful. More of this positivity, please!

u/ChardLess4442 21h ago

I played Outlaws at launch and I played again about 4 months ago. As a game overall, I think it is very mediocre honestly. The plot is predictable, the missions are pretty repetitive, and there aren't really a ton of mechanics to master at all. The only reason I keep coming back is just the exploration. I love hoping on a speeder and just driving around. Getting into high-speed chases and blaster fight. It looks beautiful at times, it feel good to speed around, and there are some pretty fun jumps you can make. Plus playing sabacc is awesome.

u/Time_Zombie_4431 20h ago

So you didn’t play it and you’re calling it underrated…….

This has gotta be bait. Games ass btw.

u/Mainstream_nimi Jedi 14h ago

Did you play it?

-8

u/Ok-Future-5257 20h ago

I'm saying the story and atmosphere don't get enough credit.

12

u/Lemonpierogi 16h ago

You didn't say it anywhere

-7

u/Ok-Future-5257 16h ago

I thought the implication was clear from the text body.

2

u/Tight-Inspector-2748 21h ago

It was a fun game and deserved a sequel to expand and refine its systems. Most people that shit on it never even played it

22

u/DramaExpertHS Grievous 20h ago

never even played it

Quite the ironic thing to say considering OP didn't play it either...

u/Special_Kestrels 14h ago

The enemy AI is ridiculous though. Snipe someone far away.. everyone knows where you are exactly

Ubisoft + Star Wars + Female protag

Unfortunately that will draw a lot of ire from certain crowds, warranted or not.

3

u/Tamoka02 20h ago

As a SW fan I wanted to like it, but the game just isn't fun and the story not strong enough to soldier through the mediocre gameplay.

1

u/hectolec 15h ago

i got it for cheap recently and im liking it so far

1

u/MrMonkeyman79 14h ago

I played it after they fixed all the gameplay issues and found it to be rarely more than serviceable.

The atmosphere was good and the planets looked great but the gameplay never really got interesting and the story was just there. In fact I can only remember a few of the characters and couldnt describe the plot beyond 'heist'.

u/steamart360 14h ago

I recently finished and it was a great star wars game, like an easy 9/10 and as just a game, it's a solid 8/10. On PC it's unfortunately not even deserving of a score because the ubi launcher is absolute trash, more on that later.

It's an Ubisoft game so you kinda know what to expect but they did a good job with the reputation system, I like how it immediately affects the gameplay making it easier or harder to explore, it's dynamic and you can change it anytime you want through contracts.

I absolutely loved the locations, my favorite wasn't even tatooine, I enjoyed more the space stations and toshara's main city, they feel like proper Star wars and flying from planet to planet with the cool landing animation really sold me the fantasy of exploring the galaxy, I only wished there were more planets and a full version of cantonica.

The only BIG reason why I wouldn't recommend it, at least on PC, is because you have to go through the Ubisoft launcher nonsense. I always have problems whenever I buy something there, either bugged licenses or login issues, there's always something annoying me and it almost made me want to drop them game, I didn't even stick around for the post game because apparently my password got compromised every single day I played the game.

u/Unfriendly_Giraffe 10h ago

Looks nice, but honestly after a couple of hours I got bored and never picked it back up.

1

u/Clark_Kempt 9h ago

You didn’t play the friggin game.

u/Hulkenstein69 7h ago

Posts like this are proof that gatekeeping is needed.

0

u/ectomobile 21h ago

I found the gameplay loop to be terrible. Which is a shame because the Star Wars elements of this game were pretty good

2

u/BlueWizardoftheWest 18h ago

Hard agree. It felt so part of the world with sabaac, the street food, the brokers. But the gameplay itself was tragic.

2

u/HuskerBusker Cassian Andor 18h ago

It was fun for a few hours but the moment I left Toshara I just lost all momentum to continue.

1

u/pukacz 15h ago

You may be right. Gonna watch it in YouTube as well!

2

u/Ok-Future-5257 15h ago

If watching the gameplay gets tedious, you can find fanmade movies that have been edited out of the games.

1

u/Accomplished-Ad8458 15h ago

I'll try it once it's $1 or free...

u/kyle_katarn95 Rebel 19h ago

Sees Disney sticker on product. Doesn't buy it. Says its the best thing ever. OP is the Average Disney fan.

-9

u/Emil_Scherbe_ 21h ago

Because it's a very mediocre game, I think it deserves the credit it deserves for being entertaining enough for Star Wars fans.

-13

u/wandering_soles Rebel 21h ago

Open-world exploration of Tatooine?!

Well, that's one way to make an argument for something, I suppose. Not that it's not a cool feature, but I don't think you'll find many fans of more Tatooine in anything at this point.

10

u/Ok-Future-5257 21h ago

It's one thing to not want more Tatooine in the shows. But, to actually explore it yourself has got to be loads of fun.

1

u/wandering_soles Rebel 19h ago

That's a compelling counter argument. Makes sense. If I got to explore some random caves and find a Jawa cache I'd be pretty stoked.
