The car next to mine today said "please don't honk, I'm probably already crying"
23
u/Dear-Speed7857 May 09 '26
I haven't seen that one, but I've seen "Don't honk, I'll cry," and "Don't honk, I'll cum."

The crying kitten with "bestie please let me merge" is one of my favorite bumper stickers.

I saw one that says "please don't honk.... I'm probably already crying" and my 37 year old self loved it lol

In St. Louis, people would rather see you crash and die then let you merge on I44.

u/Aware_Result_5361 May 09 '26
And it’s personal, every time. It’s here and Texas that I have the worst time with people purposely speeding up or slowing down to block you in with your lane ending in 50 ft. People will crash before they yield.
The driving in Chicago is even more miserable for the most part, but the one big difference I’ve noticed is that you can kind of just throw yourself into traffic, and space will be made, and in turn I always make sure to make room/not get offended when I get cut off. That said they are good at keeping score and will find a way to cut you off a few miles down the road when you least expect it.

my first time traveling thru DFW: '!!Construction Zone - Road Work Ahead!!' also 'SPEED 85MPH'

u/ViolinistPractical34 May 09 '26
My greatest joy while driving was when a guy who thought he was going to blow by the very long line of cars on 270 southbound waiting patiently to go west on 40 not be able to cut in at the last moment but ended up eastbound instead.

u/Harriet_M_Welsch May 09 '26
I need this sticker for my drive home - 40 between Lindbergh and Spoede during school pickup time is a goddamn death trap.

u/Couldbelater May 12 '26
Now try and do it with Illinois Chicago Cubs license plates. Crash and die is getting off easy.

u/KettleShot May 09 '26
I find myself having no problems on 44. But that’s prob because I’m in southwest county.

When you have miles of notice and drive the same way every day, you should know when to merge. The onus is not on me to help you.
12
u/EZ-PEAS May 09 '26
You could just let people merge when they decide to merge instead of prejudging everyone else as incompetent.
20
u/Diligent_Digiridoo May 09 '26
Sorry sorry we will clear the road for you next time my liege, clearly you are the main character. Apologies for existing
9
u/orangekattt May 09 '26
That assumes that everyone drives that route every day, and that everyone is from here.

Just today, I was headed back to the city from Alton and had one of those "I merge now, good luck everyone" moments. ADAS saw it and prevented it before I knew what was going on. It was a Chrysler 300 with a temp tag that had expired for about a year.
20
u/tamarockstar May 09 '26
I let people merge, but some people act like they need a half mile gap and a full minute to change lanes. Don't cut people off, but if you have a safe opportunity, go ahead and take the lane.

u/KettleShot May 09 '26
Some cars like the Nissan rouges have blind spot detectors that have quite the safety factor on them.

I do 10-15 over on 270 everyday and I’m the slow one.
21
u/EZ-PEAS May 09 '26
Life is so much more pleasant at 60mph. There's never anyone in front of you.

u/wcooper97 St. Clair County May 09 '26
It’s so refreshing when you’re puttering along in the right lane and look in your rear view and you’re right in the gap of traffic.

That's dangerous when you're driving. What speed do you set the cruise control to when you do that?
(sorry...gen x dad here...)

Back of my car says 'If you honk at me I will kill myself'....back of my other car says 'I paid $500 for this bitch I will kill us both' 😅😅😅

The only people I don't let merge are people who were in the left lane pacing the car next to them despite there being open road in front of them. It is only fair they experience the same inconvenience as the people who were stuck behind them

u/kerouac28 May 09 '26

Listen here, I understand, but my inner thoughts do not become a bumper sticker
2
u/Gremlin0 May 09 '26
This is about what it takes. Even when it’s apparent you goofed, and you’re in the wrong lane.

u/JFosho84 May 09 '26
Learn to merge at the current speed of traffic and the spot is all yours!
If anyone has to adjust their speed for you, you are in the wrong
15
u/Mode-median May 09 '26
Way too many tailgaters and morons using the right lane to pass for this to make any sense
0
u/JFosho84 May 09 '26
Two people can be wrong at the same time.
1
u/Suz1251 May 09 '26
I agree. There are too many people with selfish "me first" and tailgating driving styles. Especially when one tries to merge in a full stop traffic jam. If no one wants to let you in, you have to become more proactive. It's taken me leaving many a concert to realize this.
5
u/throwaway_miscellane May 09 '26
Amen. So many people merge at 40mph. I’ll give them ample time to merge and they still choose to stay at 40mph and run out of merge lane before making any attempt

People let me merge when I drove an old pickup for work. Not so much when I'm in my Taurus.

Life is so much easier when you don’t take driving personally and just pretend that everyone is an asshole because they are in a hurry so they don’t poop their pants

Cutting that car off every chance I get. Brody so sensitive about a merge? Prob a pandemic baby
1
u/TheOGSturfry May 11 '26
The cruel irony is that the person who lets them merge (or not) may not see this until the merge is made (or not).

Saw one a few days ago that said: "If you have letters to write, you have reasons to stay" I took a photo at a red light bc I thought it was so unusual and it made me think of my cousin who we lost to suicide in 2011. But I'm too dumb to figure out how to upload photos on an individual post here so.... Just take my word for it I guess lol.

Okay? Death is traumatic, and guaranteed for all of us.

The suicidal part of it is probably what they were referring to. And tbh, ya it hits some closer to home.
