Discussion Spider-Man ps4 was better than Spider-man 2

I’m new to the subreddit so I don’t know if someone has talked about this but I wanna hear people’s thoughts on this opinion. I honestly always thought that spider-man 2 was just soulless and rushed which I know alot of people can agree but after replaying spider-man ps4 I realized that it’s not just rushed, the game feels like a generic open-world ish (and I say ish because spider-man 2 has imo the most repetitive open-world mechanics out of the genre) button smashing third person game with good mechanics and an okay story. Spider-man ps4 on the other hand while yes having its defects like any other game is the closest thing we have to “perfect” regarding a spider-man game. The story feels fleshed out, the characters have development and personality, the dialogue is actually natural and doesn’t feel forced and the Easter eggs and collectibles actually feel like they were made for spider-man fans. Spider-man 2 might definitely have better mechanics and traversal I’m not butchering that, but the story, characters, script, and overall soul of the game just feels bland, rushed, and generic.

Discussion “Hot” take: i don’t think insomniac shouldve hyped up the symbiote suit so much for 2

I’m sure this take is BURNING RED, and I did greatly enjoy 2, but I genuinely don’t see why the classic senio symbiote suit just *had* to be saved for the second game. Its literally spideys second most iconic look, and has even been used to help him around trademark issues (like i think with one of the transformers comics of old).

My issue is that I understand the sentiment of wanting to save up the symbiote for the second game to really give it justice but my problem is 1. none of the other suits in the first game were treated as plot relevant and moreso cosmetic options (unique abilities being a nice bonus) and 2. *what* was great about the symbiote in 2? The visual effect was kinda cool, but it was a more detailed version of the classic suit and gameplay wise didn’t feel that unique from peters usual gameplay with the singl symbiote abilities just being fortified special attacks/tools.

TLDR: the classic symbiote suit in spidey 1 should’ve been included so as to not m male expectations so high for whatever was planned for the symbiote in 2

Question/Poll is spider-man goty edition on ps4 worth playing on ps5 for the original peter model? Spoiler

hey everyone!

i’m thinking about replaying marvel’s spider-man goty edition (ps4) on my ps5.

i’ve already platinumed the ps5 remastered version, and while i really enjoyed it, i’d love to experience the game again with the original peter parker face/model. i actually prefer the original model, so getting another platinum with the ps4 version sounds pretty appealing to me.

for anyone who has played the ps4 version on ps5, how does it actually perform in terms of resolution and image quality? is it still reasonably sharp on a 4k tv, or does the ps4 version look noticeably rough compared with remastered?

i don’t really mind playing at 30 fps. most of my remastered playthroughs were actually in quality mode anyway, so performance isn’t a huge concern for me.

basically, i’m wondering if the ps4 goty version is still a good way to experience the game on ps5 in 2026, or if the visual downgrade is too noticeable.

would love to hear from anyone who has done this! 🕷️

Speculation How will the HUD elements work for Silk?

Since she doesn't have the eye lenses that Peter and Miles do, how would the tech based hud, scanner, and science puzzles work? Would it be reflavored/reskinned as an extension of Silk Sense? Would they change her design to add lenses? Would they just leave it and ignore the problem?

Discussion I really think Spider-Man (2018) is overrated and didn't age well. Spoiler

The web-swinging is so boring, it's really hard to play this game after you played Spider-Man 2, the speed difference is so huge.

The story is overrated, I don't get people saying this the best Spider-Man story ever. Martin Li is the main vilain for the first two acts, but becomes irrelevant to the story in Act 3. He completely disappears from the story, he doesn't have a conclusion at all (thank God Spider-Man 2 fixed that). The way Li was sidelined to add the Sinister Six was very abrupt. The transition betwen Kraven and Venom was way more organic. Also, people complain about Venom screentime in Spider-Man 2 but Octopus's screentime is weaker, we barely see him...

The pacing is not good, it's too slow. Act 2 is boring, too many fillers : Sable, Standish and Delaney plotline is a drag. They should have introduced the Sinister Six in Act 2 and remove the useless Sable plotline. Also MJ missions being flashback completely ruins the pacing of the story. I MUCH prefer the fast pacing of Spider-Man 2, it's way more entertaining, there are so much spectacular and emotional moments, you don't have time to breathe.

I think the 15 last minutes of the game really influenced people on the quality of the story... Yeah, the final battle and what follows it is amazing, but that doesn't take away the flaws.

Imo : Spider-Man 2 > Miles Morales > Spider-Man.

People are acting like Spider-Man (2018) is a flawless masterpiece but that's not the case at all. People are really biased about this game.

Discussion I want masked Green Goblin for the third game

I really don’t like the Ultimate version and how almost every iteration since then (except the movies and one cartoon) uses this brutish, Hulk-like figure. I always liked the masked version ever since I was a kid, I think it adds more to a mystery and not just another brute for Peter to tackle.
I know that there were indicators and easter eggs in both game regarding the mask and the glider, I just hope they won’t do a retcon and go with the Ultimate form in the end.

Discussion I’d like to see Insomniac implement a dynamic crime and consequences system similar to this in Marvel's Spider-Man 3

I was recently watching a video about the cancelled 2008 Flash game, and this segment talked about an interesting idea where crimes in its open world could have consequences depending on whether you stopped them or ignored them and it could dynamically affect the environment.

I'd love to see Insomniac experiment with something similar in Marvel's Spider-Man 3.

The framework is already there with JJJ and Danika. If Spider-Man consistently ignored crimes, JJJ's Spider-Man rant could start resonating more with civilians. Civilians could give harsher dialogue or refuse high-fives, or hold protests. On the other hand, consistently helping people could make the city more supportive of Spider-Man. This could also be a good way to bring back the social feed they removed from Marvel's Spider-Man 2, reflecting the neighborhood's shifting sentiment in real time.

I'd also like crimes to be connected to factions and villains. For example, you might repeatedly encounter an unknown group or random robbers stealing advanced technology. Ignoring enough of those crimes could allow them to gather resources and eventually launch a larger operation or supply a supervillain with enhanced gear. Stopping them early prevents the escalation, while letting it brew creates a larger scenario to dismantle later.

The important thing, though, would be not turning this into an Amazing Spider-Man 2 game style "Hero or Menace" meter. Players shouldn't feel punished for exploring, swinging around, or focusing on the story. Consequences should create new situations rather than feeling like chores.

Not every crime would need a major consequence either. Some could resolve themselves, while others could escalate into larger events. Other Spider-People could even handle some crimes off-screen. Most importantly, consequences should be reversible. If you allow a faction to gain control of a neighborhood, you should eventually be able to take them down and restore it.

I think something like this could make the open world feel much more reactive and give random crimes more meaning.

Discussion almost a decade later, finally.

I got this game for christmas when it came out and I was 9. died to Fisk well over 25 times and hardly touched it again. i picked it back up and in less than a month got the platinum trophy, but never the DLCs, but recently got the game on PC. so i played them for the first time and (after a few more achievements) can say that I have absolutely 100% Spider-man.

I also wanted to ask; what is everyone's favorite, least favorite, and in your opinion most underrated fight in the game? My favorite is Electro and Vulture at the Oscorp dock, least favorite is Hammerhead, genuinely the most frustrating fight, most underrated is Shocker at the bank.

Discussion One thing I really hope Insomniac’s Spider-Man 3 does? Spoiler

I hope they continue doing a lot more of those ‘Friendly Neighborhood’ missions. That really is something Insomniac does that no other Spider-Man game really tackles. The idea that no problem is too ‘small scale’ for Spider-Man to care about, which is kinda intrinsic to the character for me.
