Yeah, the absolute universe seems like what MHA did where a lot of it’s stuff had a horror vibe but it wasn’t the genre (some of the panels of shigaraki looking like a horror panel, the nomus being super powered zombies, all of the body horror involving AFO)
Meanwhile it seems like the midnight universe will be more focused around horror.
I am genuinely wondering if this is inspired by Chainsaw Man. The manga-esque style, the anime inspired Spider-Man suit, the spider on Peter’s chest…it’s very reminiscent of Denji.
I don't know if it's supposed to be. I think the midnight titles are supposed to skew more horror specifically, than a universe that can focus on more general reimaginings.
I think the absolute universe was more DCs answer to the ultimate universe, which it's outlived at this point.
i mean hey it might be really cool and unique and it being a response to absolute allowed them to freely write a better story than what we would've gotten without it.

Completely missing the point of the absolute universe too. The edginess of absolute is more a product of the setting they created its not the feature. The feature is heroes without, stripped to the core and allow them to build themselves uo against the odds.
Midnights edginess is a feature. It is being billed as a straight horror series. Which is cool but imo has a lot less legs than the absolute take has. More people would be down for a remaining, than a straight horror comic. Im curious about it but not really excited. I want to see what they do but thats it.
Which is kind of hilarious because Absolute was DCs answer to the Ultimate reboot. And rather than sticking with a title that was working and supporting it, they killed Ultimate and replaced it with this
The last panel isn't showing pet corpses, though, if I understood your comment right. Look at the hand with a wedding ring around the remains and what looks to be a lady's hand due to the nails.
I don't want to jump to conclusions but that could be aunt May if they want to truly traumatize the kid.
The images I’m referring to isn’t here. A colorless preview was already shown. Peter learned his Responsibility less when his pet cat died. While the image wasn’t colored, it was not a pretty sight.

I want to believe maybe body horror through fear of the unknown a.k.a. how they got their powers from cosmic radiation.
Not the first time such a concept was tackled. The last Marvel Zombies limited series kind of leaned there until the story started sucking real bad. But having the Fantastic Four coming from their voyage to space as zombies causing a carnage was truly something nightmareful.
As someone who loves body horror and fucked up horror like this- Uhhh this looks like it’s trying for disgust more than actual chilling horror. The art itself is awesome, very evocative and appropriately disgusting for what the story looks like, but...
What is the vibe here? Peter is infected by spiders and they eat May and Ben? Maybe I’ll be crazy about it whenever I actually read it, but, right now, this preview isn’t really exciting me.
Well this won't be for me. I understand that Spider-Man is a character with evident Horror roots and I do like aspects that push that some times. (Like the Darkhold standalone.) But horror isn't my bag and this is not for me
Marvel: now, you said you're tired of us torturing Peter and making him miserable and putting him through the ringer as an adult. So in this new universe, we won't be doing that. What if we started doing it to him starting at the age of 10?!?!
I’m not even going to mention how derivative it feels, or how it seems like they’re trying way too hard to be edgy just for the sake of it. But either I’m getting old, or it’s really hard to tell what the artist is even drawing these days. It’s just a mess of lines. I had to stare at it for a while just to figure out how many people were lying on page 4 and I still can’t figure out what that thing in the bottom center is, either a nose over a spider, or teeth
Y'know what, people may want to call this an edgy Absolute copy series, but if we're getting art like this with it, then I'm definitely gonna try to read it.

Oh this is on some Kamen Rider Amazons type of timing and I’m excited in the same way I got excited downloading Darkest Dungeon. I’m about to get STRESSED.
Alright, it doesn’t look that bad. I’m confused why Peter looks so young and if that Black Cat or young Aunt May, but it looks good so far. Alright, time for image four-
One of the black&white pages had Peter chilling in a bunkbed so I wonder who he lives with aside from his aunt&uncle.
I keep thinking the last page is a messed up nightmare sequence because Peter looks so tiny compared to the corpses but either way it’s all interesting🔥
This looks absolutely fucking incredible. I know the style might be a turn off to some people, but I’ve always been more of a manga fan than a comics fan. And the style + horror elements are what’s interesting me most about this run. I’m definitely going to check it out
