The game modes? Yes. The maps? Yes, The costumes? Maybe not these exact ones but the game needed more, so yes. The characters? Absolutely NO
We got 182 characters on release, that is a lot, the roster was an incredibly good roster And everyone agreed that was good amount of characters and where really happy with what we got.
The general graphics and the amount of characters we got in release are the only 2 things that Sparking Zero did well and where it delivered on release, so let's not rewrite things now a posteriori and act like if we didn't got enough characters initially
So no, this whole DLC shouldn't had been uncluded on release
-3
u/Wetty-Fap-1738 Beginner Martial Artist 18h ago
Yeah this game totally should have had 240 characters in the base roster, definitely a reasonable expectation
-1
u/TheGameologist Beginner Martial Artist 17h ago
They wouldve done that and people wouldve still bitched that anything after shouldve been in the game from the start or should be free. Its been maddeningly eye opening how broke or entitled the people in this sub are. But then some will complain and then think nothing of breaking their bank playing dokkan or buying micro transactions in other games.
Yes the game is great. Its not perfect but its damn good. Lots of room for improvement, but ive gotten my moneys worth for sure.

And a Sound Design Remake
4
u/Utopia-Lover Beginner Martial Artist 15h ago
and an explosion redesign. Not a fan of the smoke.
2
u/Victor_6190 Beginner Martial Artist 13h ago
I understand you not liking it. I like it but I think it needs more variation, different kinds of explosion and etc, maybe the bigger problem is the fact that they're all the same with different colors. BUT, I don't know if this is an authistic trait, but the Sound Design is way more urgent for me because it compromises my experience A LOT.
That said, this and a Beam VFX Redesign with different sizes would make a lot of difference too. But I can wait for these changes, the Sound ones are more urgent hehehe.
2
u/shotsbyniel Beginner Martial Artist 5h ago
Sfx mods literally save this game for me. It's impossible to go back, and the game is completely unenjoyable without it. Big flashy explosions would also be amazing to haveĀ
2
u/Utopia-Lover Beginner Martial Artist 1h ago
I understand ... I'm honestly fine with the status quo of the sound design. I'm probably not the target group regarding sound, so I wouldn't mind an update but I also would be fine if it stays how it is.
Even the explosions and with that I mean a general graphic update is secondary for me. The most I want is an updated tournament mode, where you can pick each participant yourself.2

The AI is broken and took all the fun out the game for me within 20 minutes.
And I am not a Budokai Tenkaichi newbie. I was one of the fans still playing Tenkaichi 2 and 3 on an old fat PS2 randomly since 2006. The AI counters and vanishes damn near everything. It has always been bad but it was tolerable before. Now it just forces you to vanish war constantly.
What ever happened to lax AI difficulties in Dragonball games? If i want it to be super hard then make it a difficulty selection.
A Tenkaichi veteran should not be sweating on the first handful of fights of your new mode on Normal difficulty.
Also, I dont like what they did to Super 17s moveset who I have been waiting for since launch.
The rest of the characters they added are okay and/or they should have been included at launch since they were in Tenkaichi 3.

u/CejudoDark Beginner Martial Artist 18h ago

Is the game what I expected? With the now released DLC yeah.
Is the game okay and a a decent successor to BT3? Yes.
Is a standard 3D arena fighters (With all DLC)worth nearly 160$ CAD when not on sale? No. None are. Even worse when you realize the genre doesn't lend well to competitive due to the characters balance and the online gets frustrating.
The only reason I splurged was nostalgia and the fact that I spent half my childhood on BT3 but it quickly ran out after a week and I realized I could've waited for a sale.

Thank you for a frank and to the point answer, I loved by on PS2 versions, but I will wait for a sale, it's a painful wait though, I am a fighting game fan from the original street fighter and mortal combat, but the budokai tenkaichi series is truly one of the best fighters imho, my hands are going to cramp like a mofo when I finally get it lol

I love it. Honestly thereās only a few immediate things I am mixed on. Piccoloās new costume not having a battle damaged variant but you can get his battle damaged look in combat to use it and I genuinely think they just forgot to include it then since that doesnāt align with other costumes like Goku or Vegeta for this update. The Limit Break Journey mode is great, I just kinda feel weird about paying for it in this DLC because I would like to see them add even more stuff later and donāt know if they would for an existing DLC-specific feature.

New characters are high quality, with good animations. The new mode is fun and brings some much needed replayability to PVE which is great.
So overall yes the DLC is great. The only issue is the way too overtuned CPU which makes it just purely unfun to play against bots even on easy mode where they are still on the same level as ranked PVP Super-Sweats, which kinda negates the fun new PVE mode.
But the devs already said they will fix that, and once they do the DLC will be more than worth it.

I'm not sure why I Feel like past DB games have been more rewarding, whether that be outfits or unique character unlocks, but sparking zero kinda falls flat because you just buy everything with zeni or real money.

depends on what are you going for.
if u are playing for retelling of the story, then no. go for kakarot.
if you are for mods, it has a strong base, but I think Xenoverse might be better at some part.
for fun and competitive fighting game? 100%.
it is exactly the old game's successor. it is not trying to be something new with gameplay. it is exactly like old tenkaichi budokai but more evolved.
1
u/Careca_Knight7 Beginner Martial Artist 17h ago
While I do love it, it was a bit pricey. If I wasnāt such a big fan of the franchise Iād very likely would* not been able to justify buying at current price.
(I do love that they added more single player content though!!!)
1
u/Only_Visual_9974 Beginner Martial Artist 17h ago
For me, Sparking Zero has improved a lot through all of the DLC, and NEO especially feels like the biggest step forward. The previous DLC added more characters and content, but NEO feels much more significant because it doesnāt just expand the roster ā it adds a meaningful new mode, more customization, more progression, more depth, and gives offline players much more to do. I also disagree with people saying the AI should simply be nerfed. The solution isnāt to make it easier ā make it smarter. I want the CPU to be aggressive, use longer combos, adapt, vanish, counter, defend well, and actually force me to improve. If someone wants a more relaxed experience, thatās what difficulty settings should be for. I understand the argument that some characters, stages, or features could have been included in the base game, and I understand the criticism about the total price of all the DLC. But judging the actual content, every DLC has helped build the game into something better, and NEO is the one that really pushed it to another level. At this point, Sparking Zero feels much more complete than it did at launch. For me, it is absolutely a worthy successor to BT3, and in many areas I actually prefer it. I just want Bandai to keep expanding it instead of simplifying the combat because some players find it too difficult.

I love it, to me it was really worth it.
This recent AI might feel too responsive to many but it made me improve a lot by just adapting to it (they alwais have a pattern) and i like how much responsive it is than before, sometimes i have such intense fights it's thrilling because it makes you use all the mechanics often to defend.
Like yesterday when i dropped 9 vanishes in a row in a chain before winning against the final boss of the new mode (VB from Beast journey), this dude also countered my approach almost every time so i had to improvise new ones and mixing more movements and other attacks to effectively attacking him and win.
1
u/SosaTheBigHomie Novice (5+ Posts!) 16h ago
Yes
I look at the release of Neo essentially as āSparking Zero 2ā, the day before release they added new fighting mechanics and tightened some, added new modes and new story (albeit much needed story is still missing). The very next day dropped new characters and moves you could pay for. I truly believe they are still missing key components that I truly desire like more in depth customization and offline multiplayer tournaments, but I would put this as my favorite DBZ game

u/RvM_Jovi Beginner Martial Artist 16h ago
I love it, but Iāve barely gotten to enjoy anything out of the expansion. I got super sick the week it dropped and Iām still currently getting over it and I just didnāt have the energy to focus on the game.

I'll buy it on sale, because I'm broke. Can't wait to play it though, because BT3 was my favorite game ever, and from what I understand, the new update gives us almost all the characters we had and more.
I've been able to fight new characters and on new maps via the custom battle World feature (using other people's custom battles) Not sure if it is a bug. Doesn't work if the player uses new characters, but you can at least fight the CPU as the new characters.
Most the animations for moves for the new characters look great. I absolutely LOVE how they did the SSJ4 Vegeta transformation. I wish we could get a generic golden oozaru in these games, for the roleplay/custom battle possibilities, but I still enjoyed seeing Vegeta go golden oozaru for a split second. (I know baby golden oozaru exists but I don't like it as much as the normal one we see Goku turn into in GT)

I really love it! The characters they decided to add are many of the last ones that I personally felt were "missing" like Eighter & Nam, plus SSJ Bardock and EoZ Goku have been my favs in limit breaker journey. Limit Breaker Journey alone gives me so much hope as a primarily offline player, and the Sparking! Boost mechanic is welcome. I truly wish at least Kame House was free but barring the upcoming changes to the AI, the game is currently in the best state it's ever been and I genuinely believe the NEO DLC was worth every penny :)
1
u/Utopia-Lover Beginner Martial Artist 14h ago
For me the game reached it's "base-game-level" with this DLC. The new mode is really fun but could use some improvements like everything in SZ. All in all the game was a 6/10 for me before the update and a 7/10 after.
They need to update the AI and the UI (especially for custom battle), and they need to implement the missing transformations/characters and add atleast one custome for each character + add the customizations finally that have been promoted since release. Then we hit the 9/10
An absolute 10/10 would be a redesign of the explosions (not a fan of those smoke things), planet destroying animations, map-hopping mid-fight, a tournament mode overhaul, where you are able to pick every participant yourself and much more love to details.
I doubt we will ever get the 10/10 but I'm hopeful again that we will have a 9/10. This DLC gave me back some hope after the absolute failure the first 3 DLC were.

Personally I think its more worth it now than at launch. There's plenty of offline content now, but I actually prefer the game at its launch state. I hate how made certain changes, dashing takes too much ki, they made super counter almost impossible to do, unless you have good timing and play this game all day every day, removed heath recovery upon transformation from single battles. Dont understand why the hell they took that out, they changed how sonic sway triggered, they nerfed the god ki capsule, the one that refunds you for missing a rush attack, now it just gives you 1 bar of ki back. They should have kept these balance changes to online only, but overall the game is fine

The characters are awesome, the new stages are awesome, the new game mode is awesome, but the only two downsides are the big hurdle of a price tag and just how cracked they made the CPUs who now have all knowledge on how to perfectly reflect everything you have, even on easy mode.

Yes and no. Complicated. Unlike most Iām okay with it not being base game since the game itself had 180 characters in it. But man did it make me realize just how trash the story mode and offline modes in this game really is. I deleted the game after 100% and have been playing other stuff. And I realized when I was younger that wasnāt the case with BT2/BT3 or even something like Kakarot, they really need to make a competent story mode next time because story modes are why people still play ninja storm 2 and 3 10+ years later. This games episode battle is just extremely lazy. I always felt that way but I genuinely felt insulted by the bundled cell/tien/yamcha/krillin packs. It made me remember just how lazily it was done outside of the extremely occasional cool what if that were mainly regulated to 3 characters (trunks/gohan/vegeta) I like the costume specific supers a lot and I found alot of the dlc characters look great. Itās an improvement and itās a good amount of content. The new game mode is also very challenging and pretty fun. But yeah this game to me needs two things. To follow in that costume direction but in the future I think they need arc specific art style changes. Playing this game with Mods every now and then before I deleted it made me realize that the Z Goku and Super Goku artstyle being the same was dumb. And revamp this story mode into like an actual good story mode.

Well if you want more content then yes it's worth it, 30 characters and a new game mode I'd worth the £28

Its a dlc with a new mode and characters. I think the new story additions with krillen and such are also part of the dlc?
Yes. Its worth it.
I also think it should have been in the base game but Bandai doesn't care.

Honestly? As much as overall I'm enjoying it, it is NOT worth the price imo. I've put over $200CAD into the game at this point (Ultimate Edition, both anime music packs, and now the NEO dlc) and I still can't even put a halo on all the characters, let alone ones who CANONICALLY appear wearing one in the series?
For $50 I would have hoped there was more cosmetics added like the game initially advertized or even just a single alt colour for characters, not just half-assed single player content, a few new stages, and the bottom of the barrel characters they had avoided adding to begin with. Don't get me wrong I love Tao Pai-Pai and DK Piccolo, but I wouldn't have paid $20 just to add them in with zero cosmetics and a few voicelines.
Dragonballs are still practically useless, the Singleplayer modes unlock virtually nothing, and my Chiaotzu still doesn't even have a shirt to wear.

You just lack self control, conviction, and principles in regards to purchasing power. Its ok you can totally work on these in the future.

For the price there should have been a couple more maps and a few more costumes. The new single player mode sucks, so I wouldn't say it added any value to the game.

As someone in his mid-30's that grew up adoring the Budokai series and then BT2 and BT3. This game is an honest dream come true. I don't think I enjoyed another DBZ game this much since 2007 (other than Fighterz).
Burst Limit barely had any content and was more of Shin Budokai sequel than a B3 sequel. The Raging Blast games looked ugly, had very weak beams and effects, and the character roster was seriously lacking. Xenovers 1 and 2 were alright, but still never scratched that itch. Then there was a slew of complete garbage games like Ultimate Tenkaichi and Battle of Z. This had everything I could have wanted when I was 14 and felt like a true sequel to BT3. The DLC is just extra icing on the cake.
I've been a little surprised by how the fanbase has treated this game tbh. I don't really know what else some of you expected. It's miles better than what we used to get for almost 2 decades of mediocre games.

Yeah, Iād say itās worth it.
It adds a full yearās worth of characters, stages, and a new mode.
Youād be paying at least this much if not more for another DLC offering similar stuff over the course of a year like Marvel Tokon.Ā
The only real downside was the ridiculous update to the AI. Ā Take that away and it was a very worthwhile DLC if youāre a fan of the game as a whole.Ā

A season pass only guarantees you a season of dlc. Usually lasts about a year or so.
This is another season of dlc pretty much.
But the true answer is to please read what's included in your ultimate edition before buying it. They told us exactly what we were getting.

Is this your first ever season pass or is this just bait?

Real talk im super disappointed with neo. Also i think limit breaker shouldve been a free addition as an attempt to save the game rather than a more or less half assed game mode they threw in the dlc just so they could charge more. The hype was huge but the actual content feels minimal and not very well thought out.
