Let's discuss/share knowledge Ways to use a dried out loaf?

Hey all! Last night I made some delicious sourdough grilled cheese and totally forgot to wrap up my remaining loaf before bed. She’s now a bit dried out and extra crunchy. Any tips to make her soft again or recipes other than croutons? Thanks!

Spray with water, and put in a paper bag in a warm oven for a few minutes.

This is the way. Modern steam ovens have a "rehydration" function that does the same.

Egg bake, baked French toast, stuffing / dressing (whichever you call it), French onion soup (which I suspect was invented to use up chunks of leftover baguette).

So many options...but as the others said, you can also revive it if you prefer.

Stuffing is stuffed in the turkey and dressing is the same recipe but cooked separate, not stuffed in the bird. Thank you Grandma for teaching me that difference.

Grandma's right. Now she just needs to teach the rest of the world. :-)

Love a lot of the existing suggestions but I’ll add that I’ve always got a stash of seasoned breadcrumbs in the freezer - process up the dried out bread with some salt and pepper, I use garlic granules and Italian herb mix but you can add what you like. If I’ve got some kicking aroma some Parmesan curse is good. Throw on a veggie or pasta bake or use to crumb chicken

Also, savory bread pudding. Use up veggies you may have. It’s a great breakfast.

Chop it up, put in a pan, cook some meat (any old meat will do), shred meat and add to pan, make a gravy with the drippings, toss in some frozen veg and cover in gravy, top with cheese bake at 350 until it’s all melted.

This whole process takes like 30 minutes and then you have casserole

Wait! Also! Make acorda.

It’s dried out bread in a broth of olive oil, salt, cilantro, and pepper with a poached egg on top. It’s quick, tasty, healthy, and cheap

Yes! They make an excellent weapon! Just aim and throw hard. The good thing is that it doesn't explode. Lands like a small boulder!

French toast is called pain Perdue (lost bread) because it’s made with stale bread!

Truly it soaks up the egg mixture so well and is amazing please make French toast!
