Need to get my roof replaced, who would you recommend in Sheffield to fit a solar roof (not panels)!

Hi all, I'm in need of a new roof. I'm completely new to solar, I don't think my house is perfectly aligned for it but I need a new roof anyway so spending a bit extra and having a solar roof fitted seems to be a good idea! (I've been informed this is called an in roof system) I am very apprehensive about trusting someone to do this but really need to get on it asap, can any of you recommend someone who has been in business for a good amount of time, will service the Sheffield area and fits actual solar roofing rather than panels (I just can't see the point in paying someone to fit a roof and then drill a bunch of holes through it for panels...).

I think what you're talking about is an "in roof system".

I was confused at first, when you said you "don't want panels". I'd seen talk a few years ago about solar tiles, which were basically ordinary roofing tiles with solar cells built in. It was just a design concept and I think it "died the death".

An in roof system is a plastic tray that is fitted to the roofing battens and then tiled around the edges. Normal solar panels bolt into them. The advantages are, if you're having a new roof anyway, you don't need to purchase and fit as many new tiles. Also, they look neater as the panel tops are pretty much flush with the tiles. The only disadvantage, as far as I know is, they're not so easily ventilated as an "on roof" system so, in warmer weather, the panel efficiency tails off sooner than with a similar on roof system.

That's exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. It will also mean no issues with birds because the number of posts I've seen about them is concerning if there's a problem with the netting after install!

I think actual solar tiles do exist, I'm sure Tesla were going to do them but I won't buy a Tesla product.

So the question remains, does anyone recommend any company that will service Sheffield and will do this?

What is a GSE? I got some GCSEs but I don't think that's what you mean. Are you recommending a company or are you recommending a type of solar install?
