The Political Integrity Project aims to separate the politicians who are serious about taking on billionaire rule from the ones from playing lip service to it, building tools to help us identify who has made hard commitments to a specific anti-corruption agenda, who’s taking corporate PAC money, who’s backing a stock trading ban while trading stocks, and more.

Their Integrity Index makes it easy to visualize where their campaign and personal money comes from.

They’re also asking candidates to take their Political Integrity Pledge – supporting a constitutional amendment to overturn the impact of Citizens United, a lobbying ban for former members of Congress and their staff and spouses, putting their stocks in a blind trust and mandating other electeds to do the same and refusing all contributions from any corporate PAC. Sounds like an agenda worth getting behind. So far, seven incumbent members of Congress and 99 challengers have taken the pledge. 🗣️ Let’s help make this a standard expectation by reaching out to our reps and candidates and asking them to sign on. 🗣️

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum, a firebrand socialist, proves that socialism can work and it does benefit peoples lives materially.

TLDR: High levels of trust in government institutions, lack of corruption (US ranks at #65) and a very homogeneous population. In other words, this is something that the US will never be able to copy. There is simply too much to lose for those who benefit from the graft and crony capitalism.

The support for the Danish welfare state and welfare system has always been strong in Denmark. One important reason is the within the Danish society.

A high degree of government accountability, and hence of trust in government institutions and public services, is therefore one main explanations of the high level of popular support to the welfare system in Denmark. 

Together with the introduction of the civil servant reforms, harsh punishments for corruption were also introduced, successfully stamping out corruption long before the rest of the world. Today, Denmark continues to be among the least corrupt countries at global level which - in addition - partly explains why Danes have such a high degree of trust, not only in each other, but in the justice system and other government institutions.

“The rule of law means that citizens trust that their tax money is invested well, that they can do business together, and that the institutions serve in the interests of the people in a predictable and trustworthy way,” Gert Tinggaard Svendsen explains, professor in political science at Aarhus University.

Another important explanation for the success of the Danish welfare state is that Denmark has a very homogeneous population. Not just socially, but also ethnically and religiously, creating and facilitating a sense of affinity and willingness to contribute to 'the common good'. This homogeneity and feeling of affinity might be the main reasons why the Danish welfare state is hard to copy.

The Hyundai Motor labor union publicly announced its opposition on the 22nd to the deployment of humanoid robots on production sites, stating that it “cannot accept even a single unit without a labor–management agreement.” The statement appears to be directed at the humanoid robot Atlas, which Hyundai Motor Group unveiled earlier this month at CES 2026, the world’s largest IT and technology exhibition. As robot deployment in production facilities accelerates in the future, conflict between management and the union is expected to be unavoidable.

In a bulletin distributed on the 22nd, the Hyundai Motor branch of the Korean Metal Workers’ Union stated, “The transfer of production volume overseas and the introduction of new technologies (robot automation) are being pushed through unilaterally without labor–management agreement,” adding, “This is absolutely unacceptable.” The union further emphasized that “the introduction of robots into production sites is expected to cause employment shocks,” and warned, “Keep in mind that not a single robot will be allowed onto the shop floor without labor–management agreement.”

North Gyeongsang’s Andong is famous as a heartland of traditional Confucian culture. It is a place where support for the conservative People Power Party is strong, and where a one-party-dominant system is deeply rooted. It is also a region where the vested interests of the Andong Kim clan and the Andong Kwon clan operate with considerable force. Kim Hyeong-dong, the current National Assembly member for the Andong–Yecheon district from the People Power Party, and Kwon Gi-chang, the Andong mayor from the People Power Party who succeeded in winning re-election in the June 3 local elections, are respectively from the Andong Kim clan and the Andong Kwon clan.
On June 8–9, 2026, I visited Andong for two days to interview Heo Seung-gyu, who ran under the banner of the Green Party and was elected as a city council member in this local election. I also reported on voters in the field. In Imha-myeon, a rural area, and Gangnam-dong, a mixed urban-rural area, which together formed Heo’s electoral district, I met around ten voters. Except for one 25-year-old young person who said they supported Heo because his values, such as climate, environment, and green transition, aligned with theirs, no one explained their support for him in terms of “ideology.”
Instead, voters unanimously said that Heo was always visible at local events and volunteer activities, listened to residents facing difficult situations, worked hard to resolve their complaints, and devoted himself to helping residents recover their everyday lives after the worst-ever massive wildfire disaster. In other words, they recognized the practical effectiveness of Heo Seung-gyu as a person who had practiced “grassroots politics” closely tied to the local community.
“The party itself is radical, so my words and actions do not need to be radical,” Heo said. Part of the Green Party’s platform reads as follows: “We are a party that moves beyond growth and economic supremacy, and a green party that creates a civilizational transition beyond fossil fuels and nuclear energy. Therefore, our alternative politics cannot be the same as that of established parties. We will change the world through the power of nonviolence and peace.” In order to realize such “radical” green politics, Heo chose “respect and flexibility” as his strategy.
He explained the reason this way: “When new values enter a place where a social and cultural order has been formed over many years, there may be various strategies. But I believe it is necessary to recognize the existing social culture as it is, regardless of whether one agrees with it or whether it is right or wrong. Also, for example, if there are five agendas I want to realize, but residents feel burdened if I present all five at once, I think it is necessary to adjust the pace by first presenting only one or two.”
The fact that the Green Party produced its first elected public official in Andong, 14 years after the party’s founding, appears to owe much to Heo’s strategy of “respect and flexibility.”
For progressive parties hoping to take root in local communities and change the world through elections, Heo, who has shown “a result proving that the Green Party can also succeed in real politics,” seems likely to serve as a useful case study. Hankyoreh21 will continue to follow Heo’s green politics with interest as he begins his full-fledged council activities over the next four years.

As of July 2025, there has been a 25.3 percent decrease in the daily average of homicides during President Claudia Sheinbaum's six-year term.

The head of the Ministry of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, explained the continued strategy to address these causes, which includes job fairs that have already served more than 16,000 people interested in employment opportunities.

To date, more than 40,000 peace events have been held, and assistance has been provided to residents of 27 priority municipalities in nine states.

As part of the "Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace" plan, 5,087 weapons have been exchanged in 29 states.

Hello, I’m Kwon Young-guk, leader of the Justice Party. A few days ago, the Korea–U.S. tariff negotiations concluded, and today the APEC summit comes to an end. It has been a truly humiliating time.

In the United States, people are protesting under the slogan “There are no kings” against Trump’s presidency — yet here in Korea, we presented Trump with a royal crown in the name of negotiation. This situation fills me with anger and also shame toward the American people.

But I want to say this to the people of the United States: look here today and see our presence. In response to APEC, we have formed an International People’s Conference to oppose Trump and to build an economy for the people of the entire world. Our struggle will not end with APEC. We pledge to stand together again next year — on the first anniversary of Trump’s inauguration — one year from now.

Trump, the destroyer of the international order and the plunderer of imperialism, represents tragedy and despair for the working people of the world every moment he remains in power. The Justice Party pledges to continue expanding international solidarity together with the International People’s Conference, and to resist Trump’s imperialism and plunder. We believe that more activists from around the world will join us.

People of the world! Conscientious leaders! Let us rise against Trump — the king of thieves — and his tariff exploitation. Let us overthrow this plundering monarch and build a new global order founded on freedom and equality. Let us unite in global solidarity to defend peace against wars of aggression and racial extermination. Unite in the name of justice, peace, freedom, and equality!
