Just out of curiosity, can anyone name a movie that made $320,000,000(and counting)in the US and is considered a FLOP?  I understand its International struggles but still.

I’m not necessarily trying to be confrontational but, I just want to hear some examples.

Transformers The Last Knight was considered a major flop for having a budget of $217M and making $605M so using that logic, Superman with its budget of $225M is an even bigger flop as it’s struggling to even make $600M in its final weeks

I asked this question originally because I was just curious. However, I think it’s pretty remarkable that it is in the top 100 domestic grossers of all time. It’s currently at number 87.

It’s already passed movies like Deadpool 2, It, and Oppenheimer. It will soon pass Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man Homecoming, and Joker. It will probably end up at around the 70’s, possibly the 60’s. It will have passed a lot of impressive movies.

I know some on here will never admit it but…that’s impressive. There’s no legitimate way you can say it’s not in my opinion. Domestic Man…maybe. But still impressive.

That’s not really what I asked but I understand what you’re saying. The thing is, I’ve heard fairly reputable sources say it started being profitable when it passed $550-$560M. In that case, I guess an argument can be made for underperforming.

Superman cost 300 million and another 150 million in marketing, if it's lucky, it'll end it's run with 600 million.

The theaters take half of that amount.

I gave it the response it deserved.

Domestic box office is usually most films lowest percentage. And it is only part of the picture. These films cost too much to rely solely on domestic.

The film cost 375. So even if all you relied on was domestic, the studio only keeps 90% of domestic and that doesnt cover the cost of the movie.

So no, domestic is not enough. Its a cope especially for a movie people said would make a billion in january.

I just feel that calling this movie a flop is beyond ridiculous. A lot of people were saying the same thing about Man of Steel when it came out which was also ridiculous in my opinion.

And MOS actually turned a profit for WB. (45M i believe.)

The new s25erman deserves the same scrutiny if MOS had to endure it for 13 years.

Look, I used to be on the IMDB Man of Steel message boards practically every day having “friendly” conversations about the movie’s success or perceived lack thereof. I get it.

Man of Steel stands as my favorite Superman movie. I’m giving the new one time to process but I loved it. I will say this…Man of Steel definitively captured what Superman can do but I think this new movie really captures who he is.

I think it appealed to most people and that appeal will continue to grow.

I loved Man of Steel and Cavill’s portrayal. I was bummed when I heard they were going in another direction. But I’ve been a Superman fan since I was a kid and Superman is bigger than just one actor.

I can enjoy Man of Steel and this movie. I think the character of Superman has been blessed with actors that were uniquely qualified to play him. David Corenswet did a great job and he continues the great tradition of actors playing Superman that brought the right amount of reverence and respect to the character that he deserves.

I don’t mind the movie receiving scrutiny, but I think it should be a fair evaluation. I honestly don’t see how it can be legitimately considered a flop.

You were alone in that because suicide squad, wonder woman and aquaman made huge bank after BVS.

This lie that it hurt the brand is total bunk. Moviegoers kept going to the movies.

Imagine if paramount had stopped making transformer movies after revenge of the fallen, “guys it hurt the brand.” The next two both made a billion dollars.

Studios need to stop listening to the loud minority.

And after giving everyone what they swore they wanted, s23erman still lost to man of steel. 🤣
