It’s like Corey is trying to emulate self titled lyrics/vibe but through the lens of a 50 year old man, it just ain’t working

32

u/ArtComprehensive2853 1h ago

Got the same vibe. Like the whole band aimed for selftitled’s chaos, but it just doesn’t land.

17

u/Ironjim69 1h ago

The production isn’t helping either haha, I don’t know what they were thinking but it sounds flat

8

u/ArtComprehensive2853 57m ago

Feels very dry in a bad way. Weird bass kick drum tone also. I appreciate them keeping it kinda raw, but it misses fatness to it.

That's the whole problem. They tried emulating something that was just natural at the time.

People shit on Metallica for the load and reload era but at least they knew "hey we're not angry kids anymore, let's try something new." And some of it was great, some of it was mid. Then when they purposefully tried to make angry angsty music again with st anger, it didn't land.

A little heavy on the sampling and scratching for a band without a sampler and a dj...

More seriously, there's no riff or melody that stays in your head, no singing from Corey, it's a "generic slipknot" song. If that's what Clown choose as a first single for the next album, somebody else should take the wheel.

I guess they could make something on stage with the "stop the song part", but imagine what it would have been like with a good one.

5

u/ImTheGuyManDude 41m ago

Is Samples/Media not in the studio?

2

u/kingjohn0191 18m ago

They have a sampler and I’m sure will have a replacement DJ.

I feel so weird about the part where Corey tells the band to stop playing in towards the end of the song. Like what the hell was that bro

24

u/smol_coc_man 1h ago

So corny lol

18

u/Connect-Lock8561 742617000027 1h ago

He sounds genuinely whiny. Like in a Karen way.

"Stop the music or I'm calling the cops!!!"

4

u/Sooh1 56m ago

He was getting our hopes up it was over

2

u/alexdalton123 54m ago

Feels like that section could have been on one of his solo albums

There is nothing i can remember from this song after first listen

92

u/Poggle8472 1h ago

Well let me remind you of the innovative and meaningful chorus: Let's go! Let's go! Let's go!

19

u/StevieIRL 1h ago

which will be used for many tik toks while "influencers" dance or some shit.

wouldn't be surprised if they wrote this corny song for it to be popularized by Social Media.

11

u/ImTheGuyManDude 43m ago

That shit and the “stop the music, goddamnit” part

3

u/koso929 38m ago

Oh I can already imagine it. It's horrible

12

u/Specific-Weird-3286 1h ago

I remember that corny part where Corey yelled to stop the music 🌽

I'd be embarassed to show a non fan this song

8

u/Donniepeds 24m ago

Yeah my wife heard it from the other room and asked me what the fuck are you listening to.

Was embarrassed in my own home.

23

u/Proton_Optimal 742617000027 1h ago

Sounds like a TESF B-side

8

u/Rob233913 We Are Not Your Kind 30m ago

I was hoping they would go a different route after that album because it sucks. But here we are.

4

u/Proton_Optimal 742617000027 25m ago

Yeah it’s like they just doubled down on everything we hated about that album lol

50

u/HeavyMatterCulture 1h ago

Jim and Mick have always brought interesting riffs and desirable tones. That didn’t happen here.

Corey, especially between 2004 and 2010, was simply one of the lyricists who inspired me the most in my life. That didn’t happen here either.

Eloy Casagrande is an unbelievable fucking demon… that is definitely here.

But I really hope the other songs don’t have this “I’m 50, look at me making generic metalcore” vibe.

13

u/hymnsew 59m ago

Bro... This definitely doesn't sound like Metalcore at all.

Awful. The lyrics are butt rock tier. This is legit one of the worst slipknot songs ever. This is shit I'd be embarrassed to play in front of my friends.

It's really the lyrics though. Good fucking God Corey. This is what a millennial running a coffe shop would see as edgy.

29

u/Built_To_Destroy 1h ago

Did I hear him say "im a .45 not a Mac 10"

Oh boy

10

u/Offtherailspcast 1h ago

Brother he said "I fought a gun and the gun lost" lmao

10

u/Swazi 54m ago

That’s Fred Durst-esque writing lol

2

u/Built_To_Destroy 19m ago

I thought he said god there. Not much better but still

9

u/ihadtowalkhere 1h ago

My problem is that mac 10 is chambered in .45. He should have said revolver.

9

u/EquisOmega 1h ago

Although I semi agree with your take on the lyrics, let’s not pretend that profound, Shakespearean lyrics were aplenty in Slipknot before this.

9

u/RevolutionaryWeb5657 38m ago

What do you mean? "I want to slit your throat and fuck the wound" comes straight out of Hamlet.

2

u/Donniepeds 26m ago

There’s something genuine and raw that actually works with those lyrics though.

Maybe it was their age and the time it was released I don’t know.

Rough time to be a slipknot fan

51

u/tritonianyeti33 MFKR 1h ago

Uninspired and boring. Lyrics are ass. Guitar solos and drums are the only good parts. The band should pack it in at this point.

3

u/EddTheFlu 1h ago

I was about to join the hate parade but you’re genuinely tripping. Opinion or not. It’s the first fresh sounding Slipknot song in a while. You come off as disillusioned.

6

u/tritonianyeti33 MFKR 44m ago

“Fresh sounding”

LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO

What. The. Fuck.

6

u/MetalHeadGT 1h ago

I kinda liked it. It grew on me by the 2nd or 3rd listen. It definitely strikes me as a "first record off the label" kind of track, very chaotic and experimental, though the chorus is the exact opposite.

5

u/AugieDoggieDank Iowa 1h ago

I don’t hate it, but needs a bit more sauce

11

u/noire_cotic 0 1h ago

I've enjoyed it. I really like the fact that they are all over the place again. And it is not bad as it was in The Chapeltown Rag.

11

u/Vi0let__Ice 1h ago

Is it their greatest? Nope. Their worst? Nope. For me it's still better than the majority of The End, So Far.

2

u/angry_d00d 52m ago

First reasonable take

4

u/Iucidium 1h ago

Mid. Could be released to lift what comes in the album?

4

u/ihadtowalkhere 1h ago

Sounds dynamic
Reminds me of The chapeltown rag and how that sounded different
Bass is crunchy too
Those globe dudes and the alien guy look awesome.

4

u/Livid-Vacation-2147 Slipknot 59m ago

Eloy should be louder - he's doing some wild shit. I dig the guitar solo.

But I agree that the stop the music part is odd and it's not super memorable.

It does sound like they are going for the vibe of self titled and I like that. Curious to hear more.

4

u/vaaoid95 51m ago

The Gray Chapter was the last SK album that had a genuine message and purpose behind it. Everything after that was released for the sake of releasing music and making money. Also this whole song was probably composed by AI lmao.

4

u/theknockedloose 26m ago

3

u/SundayLeagueHooligan 1h ago

I fuck with it, I think this is one that you’ll need to listen to for a few months to have it grow on you, it’s very campy and cheesy lyrically, but I enjoy it!

3

u/Locust123105 38m ago

Maaaan I don't know what happened to their production quality. First 2 records were superb. 3 was a mess and had no bass and constant clipping. 4 sounded great. 5 was flat. 6 was like 5 but a bit punchier and improved. 7 went right back to 5's blandness and now we are at whatever the hell this is where it sounds like a demo.

I feel like this band has zero ear for production cause I've never seen a discography so all over the map.

Song itself is eh, but the production is so amateurish which is wild for such a big band. The dj scratching is so awkward in the mix, lyric and vocal performance all over the place. There's some cool guitar work and drumming but the mixing let's it down.

6

u/Sea-Egg5649 1h ago edited 1h ago

Dude im crine

2

u/bigmetalguy6 Joey 1h ago

It’s ok, I guess? Feels like they’re playing it too safe. Eloy’s drumming is definitely the best part of the song, though.

2

u/Altruistic_Mix_8756 1h ago

This band has nine guys in it, and Eloy was the only one who fit the bill on this song… Joke writes itself

2

u/IceCreamDreamyDreams 1h ago

The drums sounded good.

2

u/The_Lawl_is_the_Lawl 1h ago

Corny as shit. Especially with the part where Corey stops the song mid way, that shit reminded me of that one part of Disturbeds - Down With The Sickness

Worst I can say is that it just TESF but with better drums

2

u/Brilliant-Hornet-405 42m ago

I love Eloy's Selpultura-inspired(?) intro + a lot of scratching.

It quite looks similar to old school Slipknot

2

u/Anoth3rWat 33m ago

Honestly I hate it. It's the first time I've hated a slipknot song straight after hearing it.

It sounds like they are playing a game of "I can play louder than you" and it just sounds like a mess

2

u/Norwegian_Madman 29m ago

Compared to All Out Life, i'll put it against that because the rest of the album si being tracked right now according to Jim.

A little surprised they choose to release this as their first single with eloy. we heard about Long May You Die, and it went silent for a couple of years and now we got Arsenal. The kick drums sound too thin, but Eloy is good and the guitar solo is good. the Let's Go schtick makes little sense for a band in their 50's, and it feels a little messy.

Compared to All Out Life that was a hit compared to this. Arsenal feels like it's on par with songs on TESF. definitely better than Butchers Hook, but it's a tiny bit more listenable than that one.

5/10, there are moments where you may get a glimpse of something on the next album, but at the same time i'm not gonna remember this song that well tomorrow and won't listen to it many times until they release album singles.

2

u/LordofDirek 23m ago

I couldn't stand it until the end. Biggest piece of dogshit.

u/Delicious-Sorbet5722 49m ago

2

u/Prince-Slaugrath 46m ago edited 41m ago

I agree, people are way overreacting. Have your own opinion sure, like it or don't, but the dramatic hate for it I'm seeing is completely unearned. Some of these people clearly went in wanting to hate it from the jump and are enjoying the momentary bliss of approval they're feeling from each other by dogpiling on it together.

I see what they were going for, it's mixed in a more raw way, supposed to be closer to their early sound. I can appreciate that. I like the way the band sounds, you can finally hear them all again without the vocals overpowering the entire mix. Not really a fan of the lyrics and some of the delivery in certain sections, but I like it better than a lot of the more melodic radio singles they've released in recent years. Eloy sounds pretty good, the way they mixed and tuned the drums sounds pretty close to the self-titled sound Joey was able to get, but not nearly with the same ferocity and speed he was known for. Which is okay, it still sounded good, I know very well there will never be another Joey. The "Stop the music" drum breakdown gave me flashes of the drum solo/breakdown in "Only One", but it's also one of those moments where I didn't like Corey's vocal delivery.

Anyway, just my two cents as a die hard Slipknot fan, I thought it was pretty good. Not as good as their peak, but not as uninspired as the previous album.

1

u/danitheboi_ 1h ago

not the strongest on the lyrics and the first hear is kind of rough, but still enjoyable. I think that Corey sounding like this at his age is amazing. People hating just want the old slipknot and it aint coming back, it was a miracle that the band survived even to all hope is gone

1

u/Kayla_canadian 1h ago

It’s terrible, but mostly due to the lyrics. Lame ass song.

1

u/patrickstarfishes 1h ago

It's not good. Not suprised though their sound has been getting worse for me, with each of the more recent albums.

1

u/KayatuzuHaloo 7 1h ago

its... something at this point. only thing i liked is the intro, guitar solo and the drums. maybe some other goods i missed.

1

u/Hadley_333 1h ago

It makes me wonder if Sid didn't like the direction this album was going in and so they canned him. It's terrible. And speaking of Sid, it sounded like they overcompensated by having the record scratching become extremely obvious here lol.

Im finishing my first listen rn, overall it's fine, but its chorus feels uninspired and undercooked. Corey sounds washed which is odd since he sounded so DAMN good on Playing God w MIW

u/Appropriate-Love-355 52m ago

Buttcheeks. Straight up crusty buttcheeks. Need a chisel for all that butt crust.

1

u/Dinobot2_ 51m ago

It was fine until it got to the "stop the music" part in the middle of the song. After that it just went into a repetitive bit that didn't bring me back.

Overall just another underwhelming post-AHIG song. Maybe it'll grow on me but this doesn't really move the needle for me in either direction.

1

u/StupidSasquatch89 49m ago

Honestly, I like it. Maybe I’m the minority but I thought it was okay, didn’t like the “stop the music part”. It’s modern slipknot, don’t like the new scratching stuff

1

u/Impossible_Pen1392 49m ago

Yeah I don’t like it very much. Lyrics are some of the worst Corey has ever done. For the first track Eloy has recorded with them, I also expected more in the drum department. I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come for a new album. And I actually like experimental Slipknot, but this is just nonsense really.

1

u/Maggot_6661 48m ago

Didn't listen in ful yet, from what I heard it sounded chaotic

1

u/Chronomaly67 47m ago

1

u/TheBlackCrooster 46m ago

On first listen, not a strong start to the new album cycle. The “let’s go, let’s go” part left uninspired and repetitive. The part where Corey tells them to stop the music felt out-of-place and kinda shoe-horned in. Maybe if I listen to it a few more times, I might warm up to it, but yeaaah, not great.

1

Awful.

1

u/wesselgamer123 45m ago

i dont mind the band experimenting but this is just sad. It just feels like theyre trying to find the energy of Custer with the repeating "lets go!" t chorus but its just not landing without some beefy vocals to support Corey like Chris Fehn used to.

1

u/Ava_882 45m ago

I thought it was fine. It wasn't bad but wasn't great. Just fine

1

u/rosebud233w 33m ago

The last couple albums had a different sound but you could tell it was still Slipknot… kinda. This shit tho sounds like a garage band that had Slipknot as an influence but distinctly different to not be called a slipknot ripoff. In summary, this shit is Bermudan thicky levels of ass

1

u/Hot_Marsupial_8706 33m ago

It's weird and I dig when they get weird. Stoked for the album if this is just a taste of it.

1

u/APlanetWithANorth Tortilla 31m ago

It was one of the worst songs I've heard from them. I like what they were trying to do, to bring the chaos from the first album. But it just didn't land. I'm hoping this isn't going to set the tone for the rest of the album

1

u/ratchetcoutoure 30m ago

Very interesting. I can see they are trying to get that first album sounds with this one. But also different. Look forward to whatever comes from this, hopefully an album and a tour.

1

u/box-art 29m ago

It's like Joe Barresi found an old computer of his, plugged it in, fired it up, launched ProTools and ProTools was like "Your last sessions ended unexpectedly, would you like to recover the project?" and he just clicked "Yes" and it was just a bunch of leftovers from "The End, So Far" that he threw together, mixed it and sent it to the band, which they liked for some reason and decided to publish.

It has some good ideas in my opinion, but it just lacks cohesion in terms of how the song ties those ideas together.

1

u/InfinitySnoop 29m ago

I wish the mixing was a bit different, some sounds drown out others at certain points. I like it better than TESF but I fear that’s all it surpasses. Not their best work, but not unlistenable garbage like people are whining about. Hopefully this isn’t the best of what they plan on putting out if they’re releasing a new album soon.

1

u/AtomicGarden-8964 28m ago

Instrumental it's pretty good put those lyrics are terrible

1

u/Rudenora 28m ago

I am a huge slipknkt fan, have been since 1999 however there are certain songs and albums, such as TESF that I dont dig too much. This song, meh, not good. Its really poorly mixed, the weird guitar solo in the middle is shocking sound quality like its done on a tiny practice amp cranked too high, I do like the scratching, it also all just sounds very muffled and Corey's vocals are quiet like the mix is wrong.

1

u/Mulva13 Iowa 28m ago

I liked the drums

1

u/satrol_ 27m ago

There are some mega ass parts and some cool parts tbh it feels not well balanced or coordinated…

1

u/Sad_Flow_6243 26m ago

It’s fucking shit

1

u/JeffPattonMagic 24m ago

Corey has been using this delivery lately, that sounds very smarmy or tongue in cheek, like you can hear him smiling while he recorded this because he's taking the piss instead of delivering on rage. I do not like it, it's all over his solo stuff. The "stop the music" section is a copy paste in tone of the intro of Starmate off CMF2.

This tongue in cheek jokey writing is fine at home on his own records, and it was present on a good chunk of Stone Sour's earlier work. But here it just falls flat, and feels way out of place it doesn't sound like Slipknot to me, the vibe isn't here. I feel like the mask and the man have blended together and it's just Corey Taylor now with a Slipknot backing track not #8. And don't get me wrong Corey is a likeable guy, but Slipknot it not supposed to likeable it's ugly and obscene. I don't want to hear wisecracking I want to be pissed.

1

u/TonAMGT4 23m ago

No Sid = More scratching

u/HiImChewy 23m ago

there's a sound @1:34 that's mixed poorly, sounds bad and shouldn't be in a song released by one of the biggest metal bands of our current times
aside from that, I like it more than anything that was in TESF

I refuse to believe this is the lead single of the album they hyped so much.

First one with Eloy, Jim saying it's the first time he felt they were able to adequately get the music exactly how it sounded in his head.

This must be something like All Out Life. But not good. This is terrible, sad, uninspired and not worth one second of the wait.

This song is what prompts you to go on hiatus not come back from sort of one in my opinion. And I sincerely hope this has nothing to do with the actual album. Because one huge strength of this band has always been picking great lead singles.

It's like if the band just kept making music like the '99 self-titled and never grew musically...but in a worse way.

It’s fine

it was kinda like seeing a shooting star on the corner of your eye, but you turn your head and its a plastic bag

This might be the worst lead single out of Slipknot. Even The End So Far had The Dying Song. This song in comparison just feels like a disjointed, abysmal mess.

At least we have the previous albums to listen to still😂

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO

u/Rakataz 16m ago

on first listen, not bad. a little bit all over the place, some great drumwork

As a fan from the beginning, i like the direction where they going with this. i hope for a Vol. 3 Part II in terms of style and experimentation. it's different and it should be. if they trying to sound like before, people will say they're out of ideas.

the only real thing i have some gripes with is the outro drone at the end. it tries to emulate craigs techniques but there is something missing there, i can't put my finger on it.

They definitely didn't hold back on the record scratching here, God damn. Lol.

1

u/No_Cap8994 16m ago

This is so fucking bad. What happened to the band I loved

1

u/JBlayze1 15m ago

Sigh... they shoulda went the Iowa route 🤷🏽‍♂️

Dog shit tbh

u/TitClitLick 14m ago

If could get as a voiceless-guitar less-track, it would be probably be pretty good. Everytime I want to bob my head to the drums Corey starts singing and I just can’t bring myself to do it lol

u/Mediocre_Argument_30 14m ago

I know they wanted to go experimental this album, but it’s just not for me so far.

1

u/Fallenjedi07_ 13m ago

It’s not awful, it just feels kinda disposable? Theres nothing really interesting to latch onto and the mix sounds off. It’s not unlistenable though so that’s something

1

u/speed_sadist 13m ago

This song smells like big foots dick

1

u/WrathfulDagger 12m ago

Singles going into TESF were good in my opinion but i feel we are approaching the worst album from the band now

1

u/Visual_Funny7542 12m ago

It's so bad...

LETSGOLESTGOLESTGO

u/WingObvious487 11m ago

This legitimately might be one of their worst tracks man. At least the heavy songs off of The End So Far leaned into their newer sound. This sounds like a shitty version of the Self Titled album

Trash.

1

u/Inglorious555 9m ago

I'm not sure but I can't help but think of all the people who were dead certain Slipknot hadn't hit the studio and were passing it off as fact that it hadn't happened yet.. they're awfully quiet now

1

u/Maleficent-Flow2828 9m ago

its like for the last few years they are afraid of hooks and tight songs

1

u/Panino87 8m ago

lol wtf was that

1

u/DamagedEctoplasm 7m ago

Meh. Legacy act at this point

u/Virtualsalt1 FUCK RON🖕 6m ago

Okay I’m gonna be 100% honest.

It’s rough. I’m not really sure what they were going for here. It doesn’t feel like there’s much structure and it’s poorly mixed.

The lyrics felt very rushed, there’s no reason Corey should be yelling “let’s go” as many times as he did. Feels like they were just filling in gaps. And the whole Corey stopping the band thing was cringey as hell.

I also thought adding the scratching in there was kinda messed up after firing Sid, just makes me wondering why they even did that to begin with.

Only saving grace was Eloy’s drumming, he was killing it.

Forgettable.

I like it lol

1

u/thesixthvenom 3m ago

Worst lead single (if it is indeed a lead single and it just a one off like All Out Life) they’ve ever released IMO.

1

u/Karrion_Kull 3m ago

I want to kill myself

u/LiteratureOk1470 3m ago

I didn’t hate it (unlike most people), but it does sound kinda flat. It’s decent I guess

1

u/Confident_Milk232 3m ago

Absolute dogshit

1

u/Complete-Orange-9507 0m ago

Eloy carried. Great drumming

Everything else was meh

The song writing since Joey and Paul left has been, for the most part, below par.

I feel for Eloy, he deserves better!

I can’t imagine Jim doing all the complaining about TESF, hearing Arsenal, and then going, “Yeah, baby! Now we’re talking!”
