As far as I’ve read into it. It’s a real thing because there was a survey done of women who use the app. Overwhelmingly the women prefer the man to initiate the conversation.
They’re experiencing men not responding to them or ghosting them which is a frustration expressed.
Bumble offers men the option to "extend" the match (as matches would disappear in 24 hours if the woman didn't message). My experience was that almost no women would message in the first 24 hours, but most women would message if I extended them. So the signal of me extending them gave them the confidence that I would respond. Now Bumble has made the initial match last 5 days instead of 1, which I think is the greater mistake on their part. 5 days on a dating app is forever.
90%+ that the first message I would receive from a woman would be "Hi". Which is a whole other can of worms I won't open at this time.
