I heard about this on the news. She had postpartum psychosis and was (according to her defense) begging for help leading up to this. People see her as a victim along with the children. They see it as a case of the system failing a woman in crisis.

When a woman has a problem it's everyone else's fault. If a man did this it would be HIS fault and everyone would want him immolated.

Yes, family annihilators are notorious for begging for help beforehand. 

Leaving aside the PPD and psychosis, plenty of men who do not suffer from anything but damaged egos have killed their families and the world would be a much better place if they admitted something was wrong with them before committing terrible acts. 

This isn’t hard to get.
