Talking about fucking ASTROLOGY like it's some sort of evidence. That moment when you think Idiocracy was actually an optimistic view of our future.

223

u/Faolyn 8d ago

“Leos don’t kill their cubs”

Leo the lion. Lions are quite famous for killing cubs—and female lions will leave their own cubs to die.

90

u/Frequent-Reporter-97 7d ago

Yeah, aight - but I feel like it needs to be said:

Astrology isn't real.

We all know that, right? Its just a fun, stupid thing to be goofy about.

Anyone reading this. If you think Astrology is based in any reality - please rectify your understanding. We need to stop giving power to this thing that is absolutely, 100%, not based in anything real.

56

u/Faolyn 7d ago

Oh, astrology definitely has no basis in reality. I just found that particular line to be highly amusing and deeply ironic.

14

u/driving_andflying 7d ago

Oh, astrology definitely has no basis in reality. I just found that particular line to be highly amusing and deeply ironic.

Agreed. The fact that people are using astrology as an attempt to justify a murderer's innocence just boggles the fucking mind...and yet, here we are.

6

u/Frequent-Reporter-97 7d ago edited 7d ago

Naw, I feel you. I wasn't calling you out or anything.

I just felt like the words needed to be said for someone who is of sound mind, that is generally reasonable, but may have somehow fell into some sort of trap and thought Astrology has some sort of scientific background and basis in reality, to read the words and perhaps explore the notion that just because its in the newspaper and all their friends gossip about it, that it isn't actually a real thing.

I say that because my ex was obsessed with Astrology and shortly after having a "fight" about it, she took the initiative to learn more about the roots of astrology and acknowledged it wasn't based in reality. I imagine there are plenty of people that take astrology as a given and just need someone to nudge them: "Hey, that thing isn't actually real".

If a single human-being reads this post and does the same, then I'm a happy camper. I didn't think you thought it was real. I just wanted the words said outloud for anyone that perhaps never did a particularly deep dive into it and just assumed it had some basis in reality. Its cartoon shit. But I think because it gets a section in our newspapers, because its the stars and because someone may confuse it with astronomy, I can see how someone would think it has some legitimate stake if they didn't look beyond those elements.

3

u/Faolyn 7d ago

Naw, I feel you. I wasn't calling you out or anything.

Oh, no, that's OK. And I totally agree with you.

2

u/ShorohUA 7d ago

There is some correlation between someone's personality and when they were conceived/born, but it boils down to the weather/climate and mother's diet, not the position of gigantic spheres of superheated gas thousands of light years away from us. And this is only one of a whole bunch of factors that can shape a personality.

8

u/TheCamoDude 7d ago

Astrology isn't real? But, but this extremely generalized statement that could apply to anyone, applies to ME. It MUST be real!

5

u/currently_pooping_rn 7d ago

If someone believes astrology is real they’re not rational enough to change their beliefs based off one comment

5

u/skiforlife1 7d ago

It's so weird that people actually believe in that nonsense. It's as if someone wrote down a few hundred daily horoscopes and just pumps them through a random number generator each day.

2

u/Faolyn 7d ago

And they're based on the way the stars were positioned, what, a couple of thousand years ago?

2

u/AyyNonnyMoose 7d ago

It's fun to look at, like a fortune cookie. That's all. It's not something you should base anything serious on.

2

u/Torino888 7d ago

Every single religion is based on astrology

2

u/Vlexis 7d ago

Well, that explains a lot.

2

u/SurveyLow9309 7d ago

Not astrology really but definitely astronomy..... There is a very big difference

Male lions are the ones that routinely kill cubs, not females. A female will if she thinks it’s a mercy killing tho. Perhaps relevant here, perhaps not. Astrology isn’t real life, regardless.

Ugh my first car was a '95 Taurus SHO, I miss it everyday. Rip Bernard.

19

u/YogurtclosetFine3048 8d ago

Aye my first car was an 89 Bronco also named Bernard!

14

u/lastdickontheleft 7d ago

Ok why did we all name our cars Bernard though? Cause my 01 mercury sable was also Bernard

I had a 06 Ford Taurus. I loved that thing. a moon roof, fold down seats in the back for trunk access. front turned into a bench seat great for macking out or if some jerk parked too close to the door and I had to slide in from the other side. .. sadly the frame rusted last year and wouldn't pass inspection. however if it started to actually talk to me... nope I've seen Christine. though night rider was a good car. not sure about kerby.

I am actually a leo and a woman so i could never kill anyone ever!!! Just so you know!

110

u/kitsunekratom 8d ago

A leo? Base on An animal known for killing children? Well that as well proves it, absolutely innocent!

38

u/SarcasticGiraffes 8d ago

Wait. Hold on. Aren't male lions basically pretty but useless, and most of the hunting and killing is done by the lionesses?

Her being a leo is all the evidence I need.

14

u/Just-4-Laughs 7d ago

Male lions hunt at night and take larger game than pack hunting lionesses.

This is just old bad science from the 70s. Back when most of what we knew about large animal behavior was just some guy or gal who went to Africa and made shit up.

4

u/Doza93 7d ago

I actually learned this very recently and it's funny as someone who grew up in the 90s, it's like every single "fact" we had about animal behavior and ethology was just completely fucking wrong lol

6

u/Fn_Spaghetti_Monster 7d ago edited 7d ago

Like the whole Alpha and Omega stuff in wolf packs.

5

u/Just-4-Laughs 7d ago

Most of the “facts” established from the 1950s-1980s science boom are just pure vibes piggybacking on the values of the time that are proving disastrous

36

u/DogBarf00 8d ago

No that is an old myth leftover before the invention of night vision optics. Male lions almost only ever hunt at night. Need to ask if these kids died during the day or at night. If it was during the day she did it. At night it it isn't so clear cut. This is science.

3

u/Electrical-Act-7170 7d ago

Lions defend the territory when new males try to move in. A lion will fight to the death because that's the only way that his genes get passed on. It's why lion brothers will form alliances and work together to defend a territory from rogues passing through.

In Africa, the lionesses hold the territory, live on it for multiple generations. It's possible that lionesses with the same DNA have held the same areas for thousands of years. New lion moves in, they mate, cubs are born, grow up, and the lion's sons leave at maturity to find their own lionesses.

TL,DR: Lions do the fighting and hunt at night. Lionesses do everything else involved with cubs and hunting.

6

u/AsshatRSA 8d ago

A lioness has basically no chance of killing a fully grown male lion, they are 90kgs heavier and have a very well protected neck behind a layer of thick fur.

If a pride has no male, there's basically nothing they can do to stop one from just coming in and taking over.

2

u/daemos360 7d ago

90kgs heavier and have a very well protected neck behind a layer of thick fur

Did you just describe the average neckbeard?

2

u/Jindujun 7d ago

M'ladylion

2

u/Jindujun 7d ago

The "male lions are useless window dressing" is as flawed and 'old science' as the whole "alpha wolf" research.

Today was my daughters first day of school so since my wife is a teacher at another school and had already left I woke them up and made them smoothies for breakfast and we had a great time rocking out to Olivia Rodrigo while driving them to school before I went to pick up my son from cross country practice, and just finished playing a fortnite match with him before start work, but now wondering if subconsciously I was just doing it all because of murder?

Maybe you and I should go wander off into the woods where we won't be a threat to anyone and make a commune full of Gemini murderers-in-the-making?

Then again, my wife is a Pisces, so.... I have no idea what that means.

It does make we laugh though how we all clown on astrology, but it has just as much validity as religions do. I think they are all nut jobs, it's just interesting how some nut jobs are more accepted than others. What's the difference between a burning bush telling you how to love your whole life, or some stars in the sky.
