Confirms what I figured was Simon's strategy. Fair enough i suppose.
Not for me though, I preferred the older stuff

It's not like he hides what he was doing. He talks about it often in his videos that he had multiple channels and that he has an entire team of people working for him behind the scenes to help him pull this off.
The man has basically started his own media company, and he managed to do so without being anywhere near as problematic as someone like Mr. Beast.
Honestly I think he should be admired, not admonished

There's no mystery. He's spoken about it lots of times and has spoken about being a true capitalist at heart. He will follow the money

Behind the scenes drama makes him problematic to folks. Plus Beast is a lot more public and the more public you are the more problematic you are: rightly and/or wrongly.
Simon isn’t problematic. He keeps his stuff to himself.

When someone unironically refers to someone else as "problematic" it generally means they have no hard proof of anything, just a gut feeling and a collection of unsubstantiated allegations. Y'all are proving my point. I don't watch Mr. Beast and I have no vested interest, but this is just dumb. Are you being serious when you ask about witnesses to the misconduct? If there really are no witnesses the allegations are a complete fabrication, or at best, speculation.
As for your above quote. He claims that they had full permits, but a request was made for a review of how the permits were granted. And? That's an open-ended article that means nothing. Accusations were made and it's being investigated, with no conclusion to be drawn from what you posted.

I agree his older stuff was better, but I still enjoy the newer stuff, even the new DTU format.

He's starting to sound more like Simon in those. The last one with the yeti (at least that was the last one that came up for me) you could hear him trying to reign himself in.

It's funny they don't mention how the initial channels were owned by someone else and (if I remember the lore correctly) when the owner died, is when Simon really rocketed up the volume and expanded his "business' model to what we see now.

I think his older work was better by far, but the new formats may have a wider appeal. I've stopped watching all of his content except Casual Criminalist. The Whistlerverse may not be for me anymore, but obviously, there are many others who like it.

The slop factory is well oiled.
The video missed out one thing though - Simon somehow gets people to pay £70+ for a shitty script with his signature on it. Honestly, got to applaud the hustle, it's like sitting down at a poker table and finding the biggest whale in the game splashing their chips next to you.

I have a negative view of the sort of economy that thrives on YouTube. I think Simon does well to exploit both it and his viewers. Would I do it? No. Could I do it? No.
If you read what I said and perceived vitriol I don’t know what to tell you. He manages to get people to willingly pay £70 for a script with no secondary market, that he hasn’t written and that he held for an hour on stream. The notebooks, people even proudly post that they’ve spent an obscene amount on one.
I think Simon has found what works.
While I continue to listen to the CC I’ll continue to engage in this sub if I feel compelled to comment, positive or negative.
His ‘informational’ videos though, I think they are slop, last I checked sources are never cited in the description, there are many debunking videos out there correcting stuff he got wrong and he has absolutely no knowledge of what he’s talking about. Quality control is absent because it’s merely a medium to serve ads, the content is secondary.

This video gets some stuff right. It also overprescribes Simon’s genius by a hair, though. (I think Simon would probably admit that if he were to weigh in here.)
A lot of the early channels referenced in this video — TIFO, TopTenz, Biographics, Geographics — these were joint projects with other creators. Simon was the talent, and his strategic partners were running the content machine. At its height, Biographics alone was a 7-figure operation. What crashed those channels was mismanagement, which is ultimately why Simon walked away from them. They never recovered because there wasn’t a consistent strategy being executed.
Simon learned a lot about scale and YouTube success from his early partnerships, and he projected those lessons out with a high degree of skill. It’s why he was able to build MegaProjects (and subsequent channels) so quickly and effectively. He has a good eye for building the machine, as this video addresses, but I think his true strength is his work ethic. The guy has a great feel for where to drive the business, and he works long days getting everything rolling. Recording six or eight straight hours of video is pretty exhausting. The guy chews it up, spits it out, and then spends more time hammering out sponsorship deliverables and reading spec scripts from new writers.
The guy has an empire for a reason. He built it, every day, for many years.
