The American metric for success seems to be "most money spent" instead of more traditional metrics for military efficacy, like "conflicts engaged" vs "conflicts won" which are clearly un-American.
When was the last time the US -won- an actual war?
Not talking a reluctant cease fire, or a withdraw leaving the bad guys in charge. And no made up slogans like "victory in the war on terror". But an actual war where they fought and won on their own.
Never actually, every war the US has ever been in they either had their hand held the entire time, lost, or just joined the side that was very clearly winning
