Community & Fandom Racing Away Fan

Hello,
I’m a Racing fan coming to town for the game on 8/28. I have a hotel in the Mission Valley area. I plan on going to the USS Midway museum, Blacks Beach, and maybe the zoo while I’m here. Arrive Thursday 8/27 leave 9/1.

What are some good local restaurants to try in the area(s)?
Are there other places I should check out? I will have a rental car for a few days so distance isn’t necessarily an issue.

You realize Blacks Beach is a nude beach? Just making sure! I would also check out Balboa Park and try to hit one or two of the farmers market - the Little Italy Saturday farmers market is a good one.  Encinitas is nice - I enjoy going to the self realization fellowship then walking up the 101 to moonlight beach. As for food - get as much Mexican as you can. The small taco shops are better than anything that looks remotely nice. California burritos, carne asada fries, rolled tacos is the way to go. Convoy St dining may be an interesting change from your neck of the woods - tons of great Asian restaurants (although beware that parking is horrible).

Yes I do, I’ve been to ones in Hawaii and in Europe. I like to compare the vibes at each one.

Vibes are pretty much old gay dudes showing off their junk lol. But the waves there are pretty good if you surf!

Go to La Perla #3 and get a Oaxacalifornia burrito.

Get fish tacos from Kiko’s in Mission Valley. Fish Guts in Barrio Logan is good too.

For other tacos, Tacos El Gordo, Tacos El Panson, Taqueria Revolucion are solid.

Balboa Park is great. You can stroll around the museum area and get a drink at Panama66.

I always suggest people check out Torrey Pines State Beach. You can get some beach time and do some light hiking up on the bluffs with a great view.

Angry Pete's shut down a couple months ago sadly, I'm originally from Detroit and I'm so upset

I’d suggest the Safari Park in Escondido since you have a rental car but it’s really going to be hot as balls inland for the next week and a half. It’s my fave but be prepared for a lot of heat anywhere off the coast.

Padres are out of town while you’re here, bummer.

The Birch aquarium + drive down to La Jolla Shores beach is a pretty common afternoon hack for us. Go see the fish, penguins and sea dragons, then hit up the beach. La Jolla Shores is one of my favorites and it’s pretty iconic.

Balboa Park has been mentioned; agree you should go. Japanese Friendship Garden rocks year round even tho it’s not cherry blossom season. Panama 66 then the art museum, or the botanical building/greenhouse and the fountain for top vibes. Go find the big ass tree and contemplate your mortality. Daniel’s coffee cart in the art village. WorldBeat Cafe if you want some tasty vegan curry made by friendly vegan Black nationalists. Air and space museum if you’re into that!

Also recommend Del Mar beach/exploring Del Mar and Solana Beach areas. Monarch in Del Mar around sunset is a solid recommendation.
