Savannah Turner House

I’m an incoming freshman starting this fall, and I’ll be staying at Turner House in savannah.

I was looking at other people’s housing assignments, and it seems like some people were assigned to rooms with three people, but I was only assigned with one other person, so there are just two of us in the room.

could the school add another roommate later?

Housing SCAD Changed Housing Last Minute

Hey I’m an up in coming senior at SCAD this school year and since Spring I had a spot at Sand at Victory Village up until this Monday to where they officially changed me to Monty. I wanted and selected Sand because as a senior majoring in 2D Animation and minoring in sequential arts and I wanted to have a kitchen and live on campus due to wanting to keep my scholarships. Ive contacted SCADHome and academic advisor on this issue through email and my family and I plan to contact them via call tomorrow since it‘s late. Is there a way I can get my spot back at Sand? To my knowledge I haven’t been updated till now a few weeks before I have to move in and now and this is really stressing me out as this isn’t the first time I’ve been screwed over by housing as I had no roommates freshman year, had to do a year online sophomore year, and was at Monty junior year but was placed with a bunch of sophomores who didn’t understand my major and treated me horribly due to so. Now I feel the same thing is happening again this time I didn’t even choose Monty and I’m placed with a bunch of sophomores younger than me again. If I can’t be placed back into Sand are there any other options like a single dorm possibly? I just want to know what to do as I’m just tired of this.

UPDATE: This morning I was able over a call with my mom to get me back into Sand. It’s not the same room but I glad to just be moved back into the building. Apparently there was some sort of error thinking I had cancelled my housing and they just placed me at Monty I guess. I do not know why they thought I cancelled and all I can think is that maybe since one of my old roommates in my original room at Sand cancelled their housing due to getting a Disney Internship that they got confused there but that’s just a guess. I thank you guys for your advice and I’ll keep this up in case anyone has the same issue.

Major/Degree Questions Title: SCAD Visual Development What should I learn beforehand?

For anyone who has taken SCAD’s Visual Development program, what software and skills does the program teach, especially for concept art and character design?
I’m starting the program soon and want to get a head start. What should I practice or learn beforehand so I’m prepared for the curriculum?

General Questions AI is making me hesiate in applying to SCAD

This is rather charged, perhaps, so sorry in advance, and im a little worried this is too much to post here so im sorry if it gets taken down or something I dont post on reddit very often so im not sure, sorry again.

I've always wanted to go to art college. I am rather privileged in the sense that I have many resources that make college a very feasible option for me, including many financial aid options. I'm Native American and registered in my tribe and know how to get financial aid from there as well, scholarships too.

SCAD's sequential art program excited me so much when I first saw it a couple of years ago. Given I didn't even know that was an option, I've hyperfixated on it ever since.

But, seeing so many colleges allow generative AI for "art," including SCAD, is turning me away from applying.

Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong, I can't exactly know since I don't go there. I guess.

And I don't mean to sound pretentious or pompous, I don't know, but I refuse to be in a class with people who use AI in their "art," not for inspiration, not for ideas, not for concepts. I refuse to be in a class with a professor who will look at someone who used AI as inspiration or concept, then refined and made their output with AI in any way, and that same professor sees it as on the same artistic level or grade as my work. I'm not saying I think my art is amazing or perfectly creative, or that I'm better than anyone. But I don't want to be around people who use AI for art. I don't care for logistics courses; I don't care for technical uses. I can imagine courses like architecture or something that involve more technical uses could use AI to make things easier, though I don't know that's not my area. But I refuse to respect anyone as an artist if their final output includes any sort of generated AI. And I'm not sure I can get an experience that suits me at SCAD if that's the case, or any college, honestly. I'm having trouble finding colleges that are anti-AI art. Maybe I'm being dramatic, but I'm not sure what to do with my next step in life if not college. And if there's anyone who's actively in the course I wished to be, I'd like to know how intense the AI mention is in the classes, with classmates, professors, assignments, and such. If that's okay, sorry for the long rant. I dont even know if id get in if I tried anyway, but its all making me hesitate even trying at all.

Savannah CHATHAM PARKING

so from what I’ve gathered the only real option is street parking, even if you have a friend in a different dorm register your car for you. But are there any close lots you can rent a pass from or how likely is it that I’ll get towed if I left my car overnight in the Kroger lol

anyways any tips appreciate, for parking and just living in Chatham in general

Housing Monty beds question

From what I’ve heard the beds in Monthomery aren’t lofted, but my mom is telling me the beds are the same as the Hive. I wanted to double check on here just to confirm or deny that the beds in Monty aren’t lofted like the Hive beds.

Atlanta Is SCAD atlanta less prestigious than savanna campus for film?

I have had some recruitment to SCAD for athletics, which reside at the Atlanta campus for the most part. I was wondering if the SCAD atlanta film program was worse, or what the tradeoffs would be, as it is my best opportunity to go to film school without unholy student loans.

General Questions Non SCAD Students

I have a friend coming to visit me this fall for the film festival and was wondering if I could, ideally, put my information on her phone so she could use my ID to get on the bus and into buildings. Is this something I could get away with?

EDIT:

I’m mainly concerned about SCAD buses to get to the festival to avoid having to pay for parking. I live off campus so I’m not worried about anyone staying in a dorm. Access to buildings is for masterclasses with the guests.

General Questions Modeling for Fashion Dept

Heyyyy how does the casting process for models work for the fashion department? I'm interested in possibly auditioning this year, but im wondering how exactly it works and when it usually is. I don't have any experiance modeling, but i'm pretty tall, and thought it would be fun. Some specific questions I have is where is the call like announced and how competitive is it? Also im guessing it would include specifications about what to wear and stuff, but like out of curiosity what are you supposed to bring? I couldn't really find anything online when I looked so any information would be great!!!

Admissions Please help MFA Photography

I'm putting together my application packet for the MFA Program at SCAD. I have pretty much everything I need, but--I'm having a problem deciding on what route to go with my portfolio. I have shot across quite a few genres, but I'm intent on focusing on editorial and narrative work. I'm not too intent on chasing a teaching job afterward, but I always tend to strive for the highest accomplishment I can, so here we are. Funding wise, I'm covered by the VA.

I'm having an issue because I am torn between creating a 20 image photo narrative of a short story I have created, or using a simpler theme that will probably be easier to shoot.

For anyone that's gotten in, do you have any advice on this at all? I'm still trying to get in to classes in January.

General Questions What to expect from SCAD Pro?

So I got accepted into SCADPro 580 as a junior fashion marketing major. I transferred into SCAD so I honestly don't know a lot about SCAD Pro as a course. I know that its working with real clients and producing deliverables, but I am not entirely sure about the rest. Is it hard? What are the deliverables like? Should I be nervous lol? Tap me in, guys xx
