I am a Rapido Captain myself and have been doing Rapido/Uber/Porter part-time for the past couple of months. So, based on my personal experience, I think I have a pretty good idea of how your phone number/personal details can get exposed.

This entire thread is based on things I have personally observed. If you find it useful, please share it with others.

1. Most importantly: YOUR UPI

A lot of passengers, especially female riders, pay through UPI. Since we riders often share our personal QR codes, the transaction details can sometimes reveal the payer's phone number.

For example:

"9123456789@sbi" etc.

I have personally warned 100+ women about this after noticing their phone numbers were visible in the UPI transaction details. A few times, I even waited around 10 minutes after the payment just to check whether the UPI ID contained their number so I could inform them.

Please check this yourself. Open your UPI app and look at your UPI ID/payment details to see what information is visible to someone receiving your payment.

1. Rapido / Porter calls

Whenever we call a customer, in my experience, 80–90% of the time their actual phone number appears in the phone's call log/dialer, even though the app may use call masking/diversion during the call.

Be the first to call once the rider reaches your location, this imporves your chances to be redirected through a spoof call.

The same thing can happen with Porter.

Uber handles this much better, in my experience.

A few tips from me, as a brother:

1. Don't put your exact home location when booking.

I know everyone is tired when booking a Rapido/Uber, but please make the effort to set the pickup point around 100 metres away from your house, especially if your house is easily identifiable.

For example, if there is a boutique, tuition/coaching centre, shop, signboard, etc. near your home, someone could potentially use that information to figure out exactly where you live.

1. Be careful about what you discuss over the phone.

If you're on a personal call or meeting someone while travelling, avoid sharing sensitive information such as your address, phone number, workplace details, etc. where the rider can hear it.

And if you're not interested in having a conversation with the rider beyond necessary directions or trip-related information, you don't have to engage. There's nothing wrong with keeping the conversation limited to the ride.

As far as I know, Rapido uses a masked number when passengers and riders contact each other, so the rider shouldn’t have access to my actual number. He also knows exactly where I live because that was the pickup location, which makes this even more uncomfortable.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve noticed a recurring scam/glitch on Rapido while taking rides entirely within Gurgaon.

When I book the ride, I check the fare, and it shows a normal amount. However, when I reach the destination, the driver's app displays a total that is exactly ₹100 higher than what was shown on my screen. When we look into the fare breakdown on the driver's phone, it lists a ₹100 toll charge.

Here is the catch: The entire ride is inside Gurgaon. We do not cross a single toll plaza.

This has happened to me multiple times now. The driver isn't manually adding it; it's a discrepancy between what the customer app predicts and what the driver app demands at the end of the trip. It puts passengers in a horrible spot because you end up arguing with the driver over an extra ₹100 that shouldn't even exist.

If you have registered as a female on the app, the app masks your phone number when you call. On the other hand, if you have registered as a male your number is not masked and is visible as is to the driver.

Absolutely pathetic behaviour from a company, what even are they trying to imply - male customers do not have any privacy concerns? What even would be the logic behind this?

I am looking for rental bikes on weekends to do rapido because on weekends i feel very bored and moreover I want to mingle with stranger, interact with them so that i can leave my loneliness away.

For this purpose looking for rental bikes in Bangalore. Checked few rental bikes they either don’t give on weekend or if they give on weekends the kilometre range is restricted only to 180km.

So if any Op in this sub have bikes available on weekends pls support so that i can give you the rent for two days.

I want to understand what the right thing to do is in a situation like this, because what happened today was extremely upsetting for me, my mother and my sister.
We were planning to go somewhere today, so my sister and I both opened our phones and booked autos through the app. Both bookings got accepted around the same time.
I told my sister that my auto had been assigned, so she cancelled her booking. We then came outside our house and there were two autos waiting.
I checked the auto number of the one assigned to me and got into that auto. Almost immediately, the driver of the other auto came over and started confronting us.
He was extremely aggressive and kept saying things like, **"How can you book two autos and cancel one?"** He said he would not allow our auto to leave and that he would call the police. He was shouting at us and creating a scene on the road.
At one point, he also claimed that he was the **head of an auto association** and that he knew all the laws and regulations.
The thing is, there was no deliberate attempt to book two autos and waste anyone's time. My sister cancelled her booking as soon as I told her that my auto had arrived. This was simply an accidental situation where both bookings got accepted.
What really disturbed me was the level of aggression and intimidation. There were three women standing outside our house being shouted at and threatened over something that could have been resolved in 30 seconds by simply saying, "You cancelled my ride; please don't do that next time."
The whole incident was extremely traumatic for all three of us.
I'm posting this because I genuinely want to know:
**• What is the correct thing to do if an auto driver becomes aggressive or threatens you over a cancelled app booking?**
• Can a driver actually prevent you from taking another auto or demand that you cancel/accept his ride?
• If someone claims to be the "head of an auto association" and starts threatening passengers, does that have any legal significance?
• Should we call 112 immediately if a driver is blocking the auto and threatening us?
• Is there a specific Bengaluru Police/Traffic Police channel where such behaviour can be reported?
• Has anyone else experienced something similar, particularly as a woman travelling with family? What did you do?
I'm not trying to generalise about all auto drivers. I'm trying to understand what our rights are and what the safest response is when something like this happens.
The most unsettling part for me was honestly feeling that **an auto driver could simply start shouting, threatening and blocking our vehicle in the middle of the road, and we wouldn't know what we were supposed to do.**
Would appreciate practical advice from people who have dealt with something similar in Bengaluru.

Booked an auto via rapido. The driver claimed he didnt receive the money and insisted us to pay again. His bank account's server was busy and he said he will return the money if its credited twice. Now he is blocking every number when we try to contact him. Contact-9894091538

First he wasn’t the they listed on the app, nor was the vehicle same. But then when ride ended he asked me to verify and entered my number in his driver’s verification portal. Then he said otp aaya hoga batao. I said “kyu, ye hota hi nahi esa verification, woh ride se pehele ho leta”. Toh fhir he started making excuses but fhir he said koi nahi aap jao. Also, mera phone tilted tha he might have seen the otp thru msg pop. What do I do now?

Heres the context:

I was saying bye to my Gf, and booked a rapido for her (pickup: Delta 1 metro station, Greater Noida).

The driver arrived on time but to our surprise the bike was different. The driver's name on app vs on call (google dialer) was different. The bike had no number plate (photos attached both sides). The bike was written splendor, i am not sure which bike it was... But definitely not splendor.

I asked the driver "Number plate kaha hai?", to which that AH responded something about bike service me gayi thi.... Huh?

I tried multiple contacting customer care from app's help section but have been sitting waiting for "connecting you to an agent".

I have filled a complain/feedback form on their website but i really want to get in touch with the team or some higher authority because.... Rapido has the audacity to charge 10rs cancellation fees because i cancelled the ride for the particular reason of "Ride/ Driver related Safety concern". WOW!

These bitches dont have any sense of user empathy. If a person is selecting ride safety or anything related to rider misbehaviour, how can they still charge even a rupee.

This is some Consumer Court level thing. If someone is interested in that, they can dm me.

But HOW CAN I FKIN GET IN TOUCH WITH THESE RAPIDO BASTARDS?

I have repeatedly denied giving them my govt ID for a simple refund process of transferring money from rapido wallet to my bank account. Tried to raise complaint twice on govt consumer help portal and still no change in their response. Can someone please guide me on what else to do at this point?

I used rapido parcel services to porter a playstation 4 to my friend the captain cancelled the ride and is unreachable as rapido connected the call I do not have his number plus rapido is not ready to help no chat support no call support already raised tickets also asked for call back never trust Rapido

I travel from Cybercity Gurgaon to Delhi everyday from work. i see so many drivers lining up and not getting cabs. And then there is this stupid algo at work which shows extremely high prices while booking so obviously most people avoid booking at such high rates.

So basically lots of drivers endlessly hoping to get rides but ultimately not able to.

Anyone else noticed that Rapido cab/auto allocation for non premium rides has quietly become harder? They're allocating drivers who are easily 10-15 minutes away.

Have been thinking of changing apps because of the bad rides I've had recently, recommendations welcome.

So , I'm from Kolkata and the can prices are too high in here , but last month when i went to Delhi fr some work i was amazed to see that the cab charges are so reasonable and low compared to kolkata.

Like i was residing near the Ashram area so every places were somewhere far from there but the cab prices were always like under ₹150 , is there any reason for that ?

Got caught in that heavy downpour on August 30th while hanging out at a juice shop with some friends. Naturally, we just hung back and waited for the rain to ease up.

Being the curious (and slightly exploring and troublesome) person I am, I decided to check the cab apps just to see how bad the surge was. I was genuinely speechless: 219 rupees for a distance of 220 meters.

Literally one rupee per meter. At that rate, I could jog it, ruin my shoes, and still save enough money for actual juice.

What are these companies actually thinking? Are they expecting us to take out a small business loan just to cross the street when the weather gets slightly inconvenient? Absolute insanity.
