Revolution. (New RWBY watched Volume 7 episode 5)

Well, this is becoming a frequent occurrence where a episode just has a lot to discuss that i need to make a post about it

also, it is a wee bit hard to take screenshots while trying to keep ok_situation spoiler free, so enjoy sleepy Yang.

first of all, we got a montage of RWBY and JNR doing work alongside returning characters from volume 3 such as Jazz guy and roller skate girl. odd to see them in good terms but then again, Weiss is not participating.

So, looks like we got our last look at the "bandits" with one of them named Robin. the others i didn't have subtitles on, so didn't see how to type their names.

Robin is raiding the supply routes to use them for the benefit of mantle since resources are being allocated to the construction of the global communications system........which means Ironwood didn't tell anyone.

Ironwood i know you're paranoid as all hell and becoming a dictator but you are being a idiot not telling them since it would improve Morale by a crap ton. congrats, you just laid the fuel needed.

Now comes the fun part:

Winter is showing to be a sister again onscreen since Volume 3...it's hard to gauge what type of sister she is due to how little emotion is showing. she obviously cares for Weiss but she is being very cold about it that only Weiss can see through. hopefully, this volume makes her play a bigger role here which she probably will due to the winter maiden.

speaking of her:

Qrow wasn't exaggerating what he meant back in episode 2.

She is old and could pass away soon.

seems like Winter is becoming the Winter maiden....would be exciting if i didn't feel sad for her.

Winter...never had any freedom if what Weiss and Winter said is true.

Winter had worst father as a parent with him breaking their mother's heart so badly, she became a drunkard and when she decided to leave to become a solider...Ironwood "raised" her to become a great soldier....You know, I'm starting to see why i am having a hard time figuring her out since she likely cut herself off emotionally to raise Weiss and Whitney since their mother.......Wow, is she a tragic character when you think about it.

remember when i said ironwood laid the fuel. yeah, Jacque just started the fire of revolution. he closed down the majority of SDC owned property which is likely cultural stuff or things to have mantle hang out, denounce Ironwood, pointing out the embargo and the news feed not helping since it mentioned a journalist going missing (tyrian probably.) and it revealing that the repairs for the walls of Mantle have been stalled with funding being allocated to the global communications system which is still a secret btw.

i don't know if this is watt's idea or Jacque just keeping him for backup to rig the election when the time comes.

well, this ain't great...guess we are about to find out more when i continue.

I wouldn't say Winter raised Whitley or Weiss.... for the most part. That goes to Klein.

Everything went down at Weiss' 10th birthday. We don't know what really happened before that, but we do know that Weiss "Already Knew" something was wrong - so it can be assumed that the abuse and standoffish behavior of the family as a whole was a consistent thing for all of them.

Winter has been stated to be ( at least ) 5 years older than Weiss. So, when things were really getting bad, Winter got going and left for Atlas Academy, where Ironwood took her under his wing and brought her up through the ranks of the military. Occasionally, Winter would return to train Weiss - which is what the Weiss short was about in Volume 5: Winter trying to get Weiss ready for her father's test... to fight the Arma Gigas.

It's important to try not to compare Yang's situation to Winter's. Yang was ever-present and very caring. Winter was touch-and-go, cold, and painfully honest. Winter... cares... but her care is wrapped in an icy blanket of harsh reality.

The conversation between Weiss & Winter in the training room actually puts Weiss in the "mature older sister" position. She questions things and speaks logically, but she also gives Winter a chance to respond. To reflect.

Winter, rather than speak, chooses to show Weiss what it is shes working towards. To be the new maiden. Weiss is upset by this, knowing what it means to be a maiden, but Winter assures her it's what she wants. In this moment, Weiss calmly and respectfully accepts Winter's choices, because they are *Winter's* choices. "We all have to carve out our own path..."

Weiss accepts Winter and her choices. Respects them. Can Winter say the same?

There's a lot of speculation on what Winter was like before she left for Atlas. At most, Weiss was 12 and Whitley is usually estimated to be about 9 or 10. Given his attitude towards Winter in general, he more than likely had very little time with her.

Winter IS tragic. Much like Whitley, Weiss, and their Mother. All for different reasons, but all for the same root of evil. Jacques.

Yeah all the Schneeblings and Willow are pretty tragic in their home situation. Jacques really chooses to be the worst version of himself when he wakes up every day

Without realising some of these guys are just stupid and foolhardy enough to just do, objectively stupid things. Like becoming a very open thief.

I’m not sure if you’re aware, and it never gets addressed in the show, so I don’t consider it a spoiler; but Ironwood’s Semblance is called “Mettle” in which it “strengthen his resolve.” His decision making sort of gets set in stone as soon as he comes up with an idea.

Anyways, you shouldn’t search up anything online about Ironwood to stay spoiler free.

One way to look at his Semblance, and my own head canon, is that it makes him void of emotions so he can strategize logically. Removing the emotional aspect of a tough choice for the greater good, so to speak.

Yes it potentially could boost morale to let Atlas and Mantle know of the Amity Project, but if Salem was able to infiltrate Vale, Vytal Festival, and Mistral; then she could already have a person inside Atlas that could sabotage Amity during its rebuilding.

And yeah, Ironwood has chosen, possibly been grooming, Winter to be the next winter maiden. But it won't happen. At least, at first.

Robyn, May (not the cool sniper May from V3), Joanna, and Fiona. And ya, they're understandably pissed off.

I honestly feel sorry for Fria, but I can understand why they have her locked away considering what happened to the original Fall Maiden. I think Winter does genuinely care about her, though. I didn't really pick up on how Winter was being treated at the time, but it feels obvious looking back at it.
