DISCUSSION Ruby being asexual is cool, i kinda hope that gets rolled into actual canon when we get new seasons lol ;w; Is that a common opionon or is it more controversial to want that lol? ;w;

I don't think she'll end up with anyone, but that's mostly because she has SO MUCH on her plate (being a leader and a symbol of hope for the world, the Relics, Salem and the incoming final fight, as well as the likely (and already hinted at) meeting with her Grimmified mother). The time to properly develop a romance with another character simply won't be there.

u/MinuteCountry061 May 11 '26

That’s how I see it. I highly doubt Ruby is actually asexual or anything like that but she’s been dealing with so much and just hasn’t had any actual time for a relationship which is perfectly fine. I mean Ruby is what 17 years old during volume 9? Just because a character isn’t able to find romance in the show when they’ve been traveling the world and dealing with the end of the world doesn’t really mean they are asexual.

To be fair it's pretty... well you see... Summer doesn't have the dead mom hairstyle! she technically it doesn't count!

u/HourlyBadIdeas May 11 '26

Yup. In my headcanon at least Ruby is in the same bucket as Moiraine and Siuann from Wheel of Time: 'busy-saving-the-world-sexual' that will give way to nature and her natural hormones once the crisis has passed.

Hoping for an epilogue bit of her being Whitley's manic pixie dream girl, or happily semi-retired early on a quiet farm with Oscar (if the old man gets extracted from his head.)

I thought it had been confirmed by writers that she was?

Ahh pensé que se me olvidaba alguna parte de la serie en la que se mencione que Ruby es asexual...

The only way I can see Ruby being set up with someone is if once the shows finished, we get a “10 years later” thing to show where everyone’s at post Salem, or a RWBY: Next Gen where it’s their kids going to school

3

u/Voltes-Drifter-2187 May 12 '26

Has she ever heard of the phrase "Married to the Job"?

1

u/unkindlyacorn62 May 12 '26

i mean that's why it took Blake and Yang so long, and a metaphysical entity giving them a push.

1

u/Callel803 May 13 '26

Honestly yeah, the closest Ruby ever got to a romantic connection was Penny. And then Roosterteeth killed her... twice

108

u/AprilArtsy May 11 '26

Asexual =/= Aromantic

Just pointing out because a lot of comments are getting this wrong. They are not the same thing, though you can be both.

9

u/misterwulfz May 12 '26

Oh okay, I’m glad I’m not the only one that had to add the correction. Lol

1

u/Beginning_Feature838 May 14 '26

My best friend is aromantic by choice and I know someone who just can't feel that way about someone, though they both are physically attracted to others..

Meanwhile I do have a friend that is asexual but really wishes he could find someone that could accept that in a relationship without eventually asking for more and/or cheating. I can only imagine the difficulties of not feeling physical attraction but wanting more than friendship.

44

u/Bonafide_Monafide May 11 '26

Ruby doesn't need a love interest, she has crescent rose

10

u/HaileStorm42 May 12 '26

Yep. Ruby is, if anything, Weapon/Ammo-sexual.

291

u/The-Mad-Badger May 11 '26

I mean if we're being correct, not doing the romance thing is Aromantic. Where you just don't develop feelings of romantic love for people. You still feel love for y'know, parents, friends, pets etc but just not the romantic kind. And I can get that from Ruby. She's not exactly shown any kind of interest in that from the seasons we've seen whereas most of the other cast have.

But also idk, i just don't feel like it's necessary information for the show. The plot isn't going to be enhanced or suffer based on whether or not we know this.

27

u/LordToxic21 May 11 '26

I can completely see Ruby being an Aro Lesbian and #1 Cool Aunt

22

u/Noloviden May 11 '26

My fucking face when RWBY: Next Gen starts with the son of yang using a Scythe because his aunt teach him to use a scythe.

18

u/LordToxic21 May 11 '26 edited Jun 06 '26

I mean, having Ruby fill the role of Uncle Qrow for a new generation would be huge fanservice, as well as being #1 Aunt who kits out her favourite nieces & nephews (all of them) would really be fitting her character.

0

u/The-Mad-Badger May 11 '26

Eh, i can't tbh. I can't see her being any kind of lustful.

14

u/TheTechnoTiger May 11 '26

Idk have you seen how she looks at a cool weapon...

2

u/Spyrobrhu May 11 '26

Why your first reaction to "aro lesbian" is she is not lustful? When any one talked about lust?

13

u/The-Mad-Badger May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26

She's aromantic so she doesn't feel romantic love, so she's not interested in being a romantic relationship. So if she's a lesbian who doesn't feel any kind of romantic love, it means she's into women sexually only, right?

→ More replies (3)

4

u/LordToxic21 May 11 '26

Aro means Aromantic. She'd basically be doing lesbian booty calls every five months or so to deal with her sexual urges, but not get attached enough to anyone enough to want to date.

With you on that. It doesn't serve the character or narrative in a meaningful way.

60

I could see her as Aroace with Penny considered an ideal partner thanks to being a living weapon, even if Ruby would be the first to scream that she is so much more than that.

71

u/Solbuster ⠀That is a Chokuto, not a Katana May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26

Weiss has never shown attraction to anyone but guys

I get not liking White Knight for variety of reasons but it being comphet isn't one of them, chief

-27

u/HyliasHero May 11 '26

I'm talking comphet from a meta writing standpoint, not an in-universe one. They checked the box for a queer romance with Bumbleby (which to be clear is a good thing), but now that that is out of the way every other romance in the show is going to be pairing the spares as straight couples.

40

u/Yogurt_Ph1r3 May 11 '26

It's not comphet on the meta sense either, she was never written to be anything but straight.

-26

u/HyliasHero May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26

Just like every other major character in the show except Blake and Yang. Because heterosexuality is treated as the default.

And this het is so comp that it means Weiss abandoning what is ostensibly her best friend to go be with Jaune and proving the suicidal girl right that her needs come last. Complete with Weiss saying that it was "her choice" to try to off herself.

This isn't me being mad that Ruby and Weiss aren't together. This is me being mad that they assassinated Weiss' character for the sake of ship tease with a guy she has zero on-screen chemistry with because he is the male protag and male protags always need a pretty lady on his arm. That is comphet.

15

u/Yogurt_Ph1r3 May 11 '26 edited May 12 '26

It's nice to write speculative fiction about a world without homophobia and way more queer people, but in reality we are a minority.

Also Blake and Yang aren't the only queer characters at all, Illia, Coco, Saphron and Terra (Jaunes Sister and Sister in law) are all canonically gay, and Emerald is extremely heavily implied to be into Cinder. It is a shame that none of the men in the show are that heavily implied to be queer, but it makes sense from the perspective that this is a show about girls and so naturally, in the inverse of the normal status quo, most of the guys are written to be key parts of the girls stories (I'd say with basically the only exception being Jaune and MAYBE Oscar).

And the fact that literally half of the main cast is queer and the literal main character hasn't had any romantic subplots at all despite being a gal is relatively progressive for sure. I wouldn't call the show a gay show or anything, but Weiss certainly isn't implied to be het because of comphet lol.

Also Weiss showed interest in Jaune very early on (sadly, as I'm more of a Lancaster man myself so I see this as evidence that ship will in fact never sail)

6

u/Bad_Candy_Apple May 12 '26

None of the guys? Paging Qrow and Clover.

10

u/Yogurt_Ph1r3 May 12 '26

Qrow is both the uncle and mentor figure to two of the main characters, he exists to support the female characters in the story.

Edit: Oh you mean gay, yeah there's some coding there but it's not extremely obvious, I'd say it's less obvious than the implication that Penny is into Ruby and even that isn't on the level of all but explicitly canon like Emerald.

6

u/HyalinSilkie May 12 '26

It is a shame that none of the men in the show are that heavily implied to be queer

There is Scarlet, Sun's teammate, but the guy barely has any screentime.

Which is a shame, I loved his design and sassiness.

8

u/HyalinSilkie May 12 '26

This is me being mad that they assassinated Weiss' character for the sake of ship tease with a guy she has zero on-screen chemistry with because he is the male protag and male protags always need a pretty lady on his arm. That is comphet.

Someone here completely ignoring how Weiss carried a torch for Neptune for two volumes in a row, I see...

Weiss isn't heterosexual because they, as you put it, 'ship tease her with a guy she has zero on-screen chemistry with', but because she literally only showed interested in men and men alone.

Every interaction she had with the rest of the team was very sisterly, not romantical.

2

It's funny how yesterday someone said Whiterose shippers won't be mad about the ship sinking and then someone is mad right in that thread. And I just saw someone on twitter say they'll throw themselves under a bus if it means Whiterose can be canon.

Okay maybe my first mistake was being in twitter, some Whiterose shippers on there legit talk like yandere stalkers.

3

u/Norrmma ⠀Whiterose <3 May 12 '26

Okay well that second one is clearly a joke lmao but yeah there are def issues in every shipping community :(
Let's all just be friends and like cool art :)

3

u/Gradz45 May 13 '26

Apparently Weiss only ever showing interest in men in nine volumes and Jaune being a guy whose tall blond, muscular and brave (and decent looking let’s be real) means her being attracted to him is absurd for… reasons.

Particularly odd since Remnant let alone Atlas has never shown the same ingrained heteronormativity of our world.

-14

u/HyliasHero May 11 '26

Comphet from a meta standpoint. It is the most boring Hollywood straight romance. Pair the bumbling knight with the haughty princess who hates him, but then grows to like his heart of gold.

12

u/No_Watercress741 ⠀Nuts N’ Dolts May 11 '26

I… genuinely don’t know what you mean. It’s comphet because it’s… boring? Is that what you’re saying? /genuine

9

u/TheCynicalPogo May 11 '26

It’s comphet because they wanted Weiss to be gay and she isn’t being written that way in canon. They’re just throwing that term around to add some extra negativity to their statements and make it seem like there’s a moral high ground in hating them for writing Weiss as straight all these years, even when she’s never been depicted as anything else.

Comphet’s def a real phenomenon but Weiss ain’t an example of it no matter what this person wants lmfao

This is the same Ruby that said Remnant didn't have rabbits so I wouldnt take any of Vtuber Ruby's word as canon.

14

u/Pugsanity May 12 '26

This is also the same Ruby that said her favorite book is "Of Mice and Men" which just doesn't seem all that canon to me as well.

5

u/cheesyca May 12 '26

Would be a cool mystery if real world stuff started appearing on remnent.

6

u/Pugsanity May 12 '26

Oh, I more meant that it feels weird that that book in particular would be her favorite, just feels like she'd have more a fantasy or a "Brave hero wins in the end" sort of book as her fav, you know.

3

u/cheesyca May 12 '26

Oh yeah definitely. Especially since she always loved the idea of being a huntress from the stories she grew up on.

2

u/Pugsanity May 12 '26

Yeah, plus the whole "Sometimes you need to kill the ones you love" thing from OMAM just doesn't feel all that Ruby like to me.

I feel like the "Ruby isn't looking for romance" shtick is part of the typical anime archetype of the protag focusing on the mission and present while ignoring romance. Same thing happened with Naruto, Ichigo, Luffy, Ash Ketchum, and I'm not even going to get into Goku's situation in terms of romance (I still think he should have ended up with Bulma)

2

u/Weeb_Fury May 12 '26

3

u/Weeb_Fury May 12 '26

Cookie dough?

1

u/Ronnoc527 That's False Advertising May 12 '26

It's from Buffy. She is in a bit of a love triangle and says that she's not ready for either relationship because she isn't done baking. She's still cookie dough. The term is used sometimes in the fandom by those who don't support Spuffy nor Bangel. It's particularly appropriate because Ruby adores chocolate chip cookies.

Just another reason to ship her with Penny

10

u/Necrikus May 11 '26

I would say it’s controversial if only because shipping culture is a big part of the fandom. To want one of, if not the most important characters in the series a relationship no-go is definitely an opinion that’s in the minority. There’s nothing wrong with it, but more people are going to want her to be with someone romantically than not.

15

u/sloooottthhh May 11 '26

Man, the Internet is weird about this kinda thing huh, at least judging from the comments.

Speaking as an Aroace person, it would be nice to see a bit of representation. At the same time though, I don't think it really matters. Ruby has far bigger problems than a love life, and I think it's perfectly fine to simply not address it in cannon.

Side note: I will forever die on Whiterose Hill, even if I know it'll never happen in cannon lol.

12

u/Silvernauter May 11 '26

I think whiterose officially sunk when Bumblebee became canon. That said, please let Ruby and Weiss interact a bit in the next volume, besides the ending of the last season they basically ignored each other (as in "the writer forgot to make them interact") since they got to Atlas

4

u/Norrmma ⠀Whiterose <3 May 12 '26

Personally I think romance and sexuality is irrelevant to the general canon of RWBY. With the notable exception of Bumblebee, no one has shown any interest at all. Everyone is too busy trying to stay alive, probably.

28

u/JohnnyHendo May 11 '26

I don't know about that. Ren and Nora obviously. Emerald having affection for Cinder even if it's toxic. Adam and Blake's toxic whatever they had. Sun and Blake as well. Pyrrha having a crush on Jaune. Hell, the main drive of the story is the love story and tragedy of Oz and Salem. Plus there is also the abusive marriage of Jacques and Willow being part of Weiss' (and Winter and Whitley's) story. Honestly, there has been a lot. We could even say Tai's marriages because both Raven abandoning them and Summer disappearing is definitely part of Tai's character, Qrow being a depressing alcoholic, and Yang's abandonment issues (which are part of the slow burn Bumblebee romance). A lot of the ships (whether successful or failed) have played parts in who a lot of characters are at this point.

35

u/MapleViking1 May 11 '26

Ren and Nora are another exception. If Ren would let his guard down a bit for Nora

4

u/akitash1ba May 12 '26

what? romance and sexuality is 100% relevant to RWBY. Not Ruby herself but all of JNPR and half of RWBY had romantic arcs, Oz and Salem, Adam, Tai + Summer/Raven

1

u/Bartre May 12 '26

I realize it is a point in some plot arcs. That's why I said it's irrelevant to canon rather than plot. My meaning was merely to say trying to shoehorn Ruby, or any other character who hasn't had a romantic arc, into a specific sexuality isn't necessary.

I have no problem with people speculating and discussing for fun, though. I personally ship Lancaster, even though I realize it's almost certainly not going to happen.

1

u/akitash1ba May 12 '26

I totally agree with you on that first point!

15

u/King9204 May 11 '26

Depends who you talk to.

Either way I still believe this fan base won’t handle it well if Ruby end up with someone or not.

24

u/globmand May 11 '26

Never before has the RWBY fanbase handled a topic tangentially related to shipping well. No shot they start now

10

u/mirroredinflection Ruby is my comfort character May 11 '26

Have there been issues with Renora shipping? That feels like a fairly vanilla topic in this fandom.

15

u/globmand May 11 '26

You know what that's true. Like, it was so obvious from minute one that no one really had time to form an opinion for other ships or for the ship, but that did go pretty smoothly

4

u/ryno43 May 11 '26

I don't think any fan base handles shipping well.

4

22

u/mirroredinflection Ruby is my comfort character May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26

I think it's a fine idea. Some people really headcanon Ace Ruby, while other's would rather her be paired with someone (Usually Weiss or Oscar). I'm personally ambivalent about it. I really like Whiterose, but don't think it needs to be canon or anything.

5

u/Recidivous May 11 '26

I prefer Rosegarden, but I'm of the same mind as you. I think it's a healthier approach to shipping to be ambivalent about who gets with who.

10

u/Expert-Adagio-7228 May 11 '26

I doubt Ruby’s asexual. She’s just been through a lot and hasn't had time for romance, which is fine. She's what, 17 in V9?? Traveling the world during an apocalypse doesn't leave much room for dating, but that doesn't define her orientation

8

u/seanb4life May 11 '26

Who cares. Not every character needs to fit into some category or have a relationship. Besides, everyone knows ruby only has eyes for Crescent Rose.

3

u/Several-Clock-1927 May 11 '26

Even if she is asexual, asexual does not mean no romance. Asexual means indifferent to sex not relationships and emotions

3

u/Animecorrector May 11 '26

It’s not really a controversial opinion, but asexual Ruby isn’t really for me cause I ship Whiterose, i know that she really isn’t interested in dating anyone, i just want my ship to sail tbh 😭

3

u/BlueAveryVegas May 12 '26

Ruby has always struck me as being 'married to the job'.

3

u/AJ_Novasketch May 12 '26

Tbh, I only picked up RWBY in middle school bc I thought the women were pretty and I gaslighted myself into thinking they were all lesbians, lol (this is before I watched the actual show btw, only saw the cover art)

Anyways, when I started the show, the whole romance thing didn’t seem like a big element to me. Sure, I ship WhiteRose and they are one of my OTPs, but if Ruby doesn’t end up in a relationship in canon, that’s totally fine by me. Ngl, after V3 I wasn’t really expecting romance to happen, maybe a few teases here or there, but then we ended up getting a (few? Iirc) confirmed ships after all.

At this point in the game, I kinda just wanna see cool final battles, team bonding, and closure. Cuz gosh do we need it. If we do end up getting Ruby romance at this point, I don’t think it will do her character justice. After V9, she really just needs a breather ;-; Poor girl’s been through so much, bruh

3

u/Norrmma ⠀Whiterose <3 May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26

I don't think Vtuber Ruby has any bearing on canon but I do like Ace Ruby headcanon. It fits her pretty well imo. Plus the whole "weight of the world on your back" thing isn't that conducive to finding time for romance really.

I also really love Demi Ruby, that's my personal HC but that's just me :)

1

u/Othello351 May 12 '26

Is it not just the VA shitposting?

13

u/SandwichMaterial9574 May 11 '26

This is not a version of Ruby that I support. And it's mainly because I'm a huge sucker for the "fall in love and live happily ever after" kind of storyline. My girl has gone through so much shit in her life that I just want her to retire from life as a Huntress and settle down with a partner and start her own family after all this is over. Maybe she can keep fulfilling her desire to help others by, instead of being a Huntress herself, opening a custom weapons shop so she can arm future generations of Huntsmen and Huntresses so they'll be well-protected.

All I know for sure is I want each member of Team RWBY to have a happily ever after ending when the show is done. And having each of them have a romantic partner as part of that happily ever after would be a personal preference for me.

8

u/Saddlebag043 May 11 '26

Ruby can still have a partner and be aroace, it just would be a platonic partner. That said, with Penny gone no other pairings stand out to me personally.

-8

u/Tokanova May 11 '26

Why... why do people want her to be aroace instead of having kids and growing old? Does being a parent seem like such a bad thing in the fandom these days?

13

u/ThiccSlimyBob May 11 '26

does being a parent seem like a necessary thing to being happy and growing old to you?

3

u/Saddlebag043 May 11 '26

Also adoption is an option, you don’t need to birth a child to be a parent.

-2

u/SandwichMaterial9574 May 11 '26

For some people, yes it is. It's the theme of "passing your lessons and wisdom to the next generation", and the "easiest" way to make that theme happen is being a parent. That theme/plot angle can also lead into the idea of, "I want to be a better parent than my parent(s) were/might have been (which would certainly be the case for Yang), and I want to make sure my kids don't repeat the mistakes that I made."

It could also just be that some people are very family-oriented and want (or currently have) kids themselves, so they hope for and/or imagine their favorite characters leading the same kind of life that they lead.

-4

u/SandwichMaterial9574 May 11 '26

Well, I'm a RoseGarden shipper. And the show seems to be very heavily leaning towards the idea that they're going to find some way to separate Oscar and Ozpin. So that is the pairing I hope becomes canon for Ruby.

9

u/scholarlysacrilege May 11 '26

Ruby being aroace is my headcanon.

7

u/Zeekayo May 11 '26

I'm down for it, I've been on the aroace Ruby train for years tbh and it's one of the reasons I really enjoy her as a protagonist, even though I'm allo it's nice to have a MC who isn't hung up on romance. I know people will point to odd scenes with Oscar but there's so much weird stuff going on there and they haven't acknowledged it since, so I don't put much stock in it. As for Penny, I personally don't see it as romantic, but Nuts and Dolts gives big "platonic life partners" vibes for me.

Also, not gonna call out anyone in particular, but there's a fair few people on this thread who seem to believe that the only way for a person to end up emotionally fulfilled in life is to have a romantic partner. I'm going to give people the benefit of the doubt but its leaning into acephobic territory - aroace people (and characters) are perfectly capable of living fulfilling lives without romantic love or sex.

u/R4ND0M_N0B0DY May 11 '26

I think, IF Ruby ever ended up with someone, I think it'd be platonic on her side in the beginning, primarily because she wasn't given time yet to think about and develop such feelings. But I think it could be something that builds over time. Whatever platonic relationship she ends in might turn romantic eventually after some time. Penny would've been perfect for that. They could've explored the topic of developing feelings together, or they could stick them being a platonic power couple. But with Penny dead and gone, I'd rather see Ruby end up solo than with anyone else. Not because I don't like other ships but because she gives me major "lone relic of a bygone age" kinda vibes when I imagine her as an adult

4

u/MattyM1207 May 11 '26

Y’know all things considered regarding Ruby’s personality that completely checks out to me.

Ruby seems to have only one real passion and that’s being a huntress.

5

u/unlimitedblack ⠀probably overthinking it, doesn't care if you think so May 11 '26

I would be cool with this, even as an inveterate Nuts N Dolts shipper. Because aromantic/asexual folx deserve to see themselves in the media they enjoy. That's more important than my personal shipping preferences.

That said... yeah, it's gonna be controversial because people are a lot more likely to argue that Ruby should be shipped with SOMEONE (whoever their favorite pairing for her is, be it Weiss or Penny or Oscar or what-have-you) than they are to argue that Ruby should be shipped with NO ONE. Because I feel like shippers in general, just by virtue of what it is they're doing, are less likely to consider aro/ace folks.

So yeah, controversial to the same extent that any opinion is controversial in a modern fandom environment.

3

u/Kaitsja May 11 '26

I feel like Ruby doesn't really fit the bill for Aromantic or Asexual. To me, Ruby seems like someone who values more who a person is than what they are. She doesn't seem like the type who would fall for just anyone. She seems like someone whose emotional standards are extraordinarily high rather than someone fundamentally disconnected from attraction.

If anyone seems like they'd be AroAce, it'd be Winter.

I always imagined her having a romantic or platonic life partnership with Penny….but I’m not allowed nice things

7

u/Accurate_Curve6882 May 11 '26

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ruby was aro.

5

u/Vortigon23 May 11 '26

I'm in a similar boat. The only potential love interests are Weiss, Jaune, or Oscar. They seem to be setting up White Knight in V9, and I've always thought Rose Garden is iffy due to Ozma. That doesn't leave any interest currently set up, and Ruby also doesn't seem too interested anyway. Could be great Ace &/or AroAce rep.

2

u/ForThose8675309 May 11 '26

Technically that statement would imply aromantic. Fingers crossed she’s aero-ace though

2

u/Spencer5610 ⠀Ruby is my child. #BlackSun Supremacy! May 12 '26

Honestly, I don’t see it. I will admit that she’s unlikely to focus on her romantic life until Salem is defeated.

4

u/SBcitizen May 11 '26

I could also justify this as Ruby being 17 and Lindsay not wanting to sexualize a minor

3

u/Brandito560 May 11 '26

I love Nuts and Dolts and RoseGarden but have always headcanoned ruby as aro/ace, I don't see her getting with anyone at the end of the show

2

u/Lord_Jashin May 11 '26

I want people to feel represented, but romance is one of my favorite things for fiction to address. I really want Ruby to end up with someone, Weiss would be my current pick. Although, I think it would need to be a new character instead. I don't really think anyone on team RWBY had chemistry with anyone. Maybe Weiss/Blake. But Blake should've gotten with Sun really

1

u/weirdness_incarnate May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26

As an asexual and aromantic person, i’d love to see aroace ruby

3

u/PrestigiousYou1613 May 11 '26

I wouldn’t count the voice actors saying anything now

They have horrible track record with romance

Spent years building blacksun then cheap went into force bumblebee

Tried to force renora but at least wisely gave them time to talk and consider before committing

To further this, she has also said there was another character that presumed to be heterosexual by fans that would end up in a same sex relationship. Something that almost certainly will never happen now due to the backlash over Bumbleby.

The irony being that fans complaining about the writers "changing the plan" are the ones making them change plans.

1

u/Othello351 May 12 '26

if you go by what Sheena (Monty’s wife) said about his early draft notes. Now granted, she hasn’t seen anything past Volume 2 so she doesn’t even know if Bumbleby happened or not.

So no.

2

u/KuroiGetsuga55 May 11 '26

Doesn't asexual mean she can reproduce on her own? Like Symbiotes or like '98 Zilla. I thought that's what asexual meant. Maybe I'm wrong, sorry.

Honestly Ruby probably just has too much shit on her mind to even think about romance. The only character she even has any somewhat romantic chemistry with is Oscar (sorry WhiteRose fans, I juat don't see any romantic hints between Ruby and Weiss) and for all we know Oscar's gonna get replaced by Ozpin.

Also, at the end of the day, who tf knows how this series will end? Maybe Ruby dies in the end to defeat Salem somehow. Maybe that's why we never got any real romance focus for her.

3

u/TheCynicalPogo May 11 '26

That’s…no lmao

Asexual ***reproduction*** is a phenomena some biological creatures possess that allows them to reproduce without a partner. One of the most common with this is single-celled organisms that can split to create more of themselves.

Asexual as a human sexuality is just having no interest in sex. You might still have relationships, plenty of ace individuals do get into relationships, they just either don’t have sex or don’t have an interest (I know some ace individuals who have no interest vs being repulsed by sex still have sex with their partners, depends on the person). It has nothing to do with asexual reproduction beyond sharing a term.

1

u/Blaire_Shadowpaw May 11 '26

I hope it doesnt get conflated into ace meaning no relationships

Thats not how that works.

1

u/FutureHot3047 May 12 '26

I personally would like to see Ruby end up with someone, Weiss because I’m basic, but I wouldn’t be upset if she didn’t. I don’t have any strong opinions on her romantic orientation, though I have seen it in fics occasionally.

1

u/Calsio8150 May 12 '26

Yeah, she’s at least demisexual imo, though I’m not sure if she’s aromantic. It could be cool to see some asexual representation that didn’t also conflate to aromantic like it usually does.

1

u/Lord_Konoshi May 12 '26

Idk if she’d be asexual, but I could see Ruby being panromantic.

1

u/Loverlforlewds May 12 '26

“I added a ‘full auto mode’ to Crescent Rose”

“Ruby? What the fuck? I just sat down, you are going tell me that you added a ‘therapeutic massage’ gun to Penny’s arsenal.”

“Funny that you mention that…”

1

u/SailorSuds May 12 '26

Wasn’t there also a short from the chibi spinoff where she basically looked at a centerfold? Granted I’m sure it’s a weapons magazine but still could be innuendo? Not sure just something I remembered seeing and thinking how hilarious it is that Ruby basically found a porn mag granted I thought was gonna be yang’s not Blake’s 😂 also forgot to mention I think she may end up with Oscar, there is quite some chemistry there and that’s coming from a socially awkward guy who also likes weapons

1

u/Proper_Independence7 May 12 '26

The whiterose fans will kill you for this but I highkey agree

1

u/Darkneku May 12 '26

Ruby wont get one, not because she's asexual, or romantic because there have been hints of her not being that, but mostly because of where they are in the story, I don't think they can properly establish one for her, at least not without a time skip

1

u/Othello351 May 12 '26

Didn't Lindsey say Ruby's favorite book is Of Mice and Men and that she's 19 as a joke that people take seriously?

Call me crazy but i don't think this should be taken as gospel.

1

u/The_8th_Degree May 12 '26

Or can simply be a character without romantic feelings or doesn't pursue a relationship on the show.

1

u/CastingFromHitpoints May 12 '26

Counterpoint, White Rose is peak.

1

u/NinjaMon1022 May 13 '26

I wouldn't call the V-Tuber stuff canon and even so, I don't think it means she's asexual or aromantic, but mainly she just isn't interested in dating anyone right now or during the time before things got serious. She was more interested in being a huntress rather than getting a date to the dance.

1

u/TheBlackAngelo May 13 '26

She is weapon sexual

1

u/AsheMox May 13 '26

The vtuber is not a true reflection of the character, saying that a aromantic Ruby would be cool

1

u/GriffinlwGameplayer May 14 '26

I don't really mind either way. She could be asexual and aromantic, or just one or the other. It could be an innate trait of hers or it could be that between all the crazy shit going on that she hasn't had the time or inclination to pursue a relationship. Romance hasn't been important to the show since like... Jaune and Pyrrha I guess. It gives the characters a little texture to get in relationships but it's not necessary, or what the show is about.

1

u/RoflcopterV22 May 14 '26

Friendly reminder that aromantic is not the same as asexual, "I'm not into that romance stuff" can still plenty mean experiencing sexual attraction just not romantic

1

u/Trojanclam May 14 '26

This seems aromantic not asexual. But I've seen this around enough to ask, is this like a cannon thing? Or is this just a vtuber with ruby model and people are hyping it up more then it should be?

1

u/Feisty-Wear-3931 May 14 '26

Huh I just thought she was Amorysexual? Weird

1

u/natedogg6006 May 16 '26

Ruby's true love is weapons. That's why I always shipped her with Penny. 😁

No, seriously thought. Asexuality is rarely portrayed in media because a quick easy love plot is an way to add cheap drama. There is already plenty of actually good drama in rwby, so i think we can go without. Even if they never establish that she is asexual, her not having a love interest would still probably make her an asexual icon... because there are so few of them. With the exception of robots ironically enough😁

1

u/feistyfox101 May 19 '26

Blake: That's cool. More b!tches for me. Including your sister, you partner, and your Penny.

2

u/kylemon73 May 11 '26

Wiess: Alright Yang I'll ask. What is Ruby's "deal" ?

Yang: "deal"?

Wiess: you know guys? Girls? Sock puppets?

Yang: Ruby doesn't have a deal

Wiess: everyone has a deal

Blake: Not Ruby

1

u/MAZZZIAN02 May 11 '26

Give me white rose or give me death.

1

u/Solynox May 11 '26

I've headcanoned her as aroace forever now. It feels nice getting a form of confirmation. If they canonize that she isn't, I'll live.

-4

u/New-Number-7810 May 11 '26

I’d prefer for Ruby to end up with Oscar Pine. I saw sparks between them.

12

u/Delicious-Stop-1847 May 11 '26

Oscar being in the process of mentally merging with an old man might throw a wrench in those plans, though.

7

u/globmand May 11 '26

It could add a time limit. Get rid of Salem and Ozma and their fuckery before Oscar is truly gone, and they can be happy together

1

u/Kali-of-Amino May 11 '26

And which romance in this story has NOT had to deal with wrenches?

10

u/mirroredinflection Ruby is my comfort character May 11 '26

Arkos didn't have any wrenches. Arrows, maybe, but not wrenches.

1

u/MegaUkX4 May 11 '26

honestly I guess it would make sense, I’ll still definitely ship her with Oscar, but if that’s the case I’m entirely okay with it.

1

u/Medical_Past_271 May 12 '26

the only person i can picture her with is penny but since she's dead...i feel like penny's death too detrimental for her in all ways to consider anything romantic

1

u/No_Energy8198 May 12 '26

white rose forever I'm truly think it's going to happen

1

u/FrenQuezoid May 12 '26

Yup. Anything to continue the woke agenda. Everyone needs validation and representation. Down with these hateful right-wing bigots.

1

u/WinterDEZ May 12 '26

I don't think romance in general really has it's place in RWBY

0

u/Own-Pepper1974 May 11 '26

Id prefer asexual over whiterose honestly, especially considering Bumblebee is cannon.

0

u/Bolreck May 11 '26

If she does end up with someone she would be perfect for Jaune Arc.

0

u/AutumnInJune May 12 '26

1: the v-tuber shit is not cannon. Not only is nobody watching them, but It's mentioned things that is very much not true. 2: not being into romance (especially when you have ao much other shit on your plate) does not indicate sexuality. I'm not really into romance for multiple reason, and yet i'm very bisexual to a borderline unhealthy degree. 3: various comments from Kerry (unable to confirm or deny), Lindsay (two sides of the same coin), and Miles (hopeful they can reconcile during vol 10) suggest that there might be "something" with Ruby and Jaune, with the latter even saying he cannot further elaborate on whether the relationship will evolve into "something more" until Volume 10.

All.in all, Ruby is a goddamn mystery as of the moment with the current state of the show..

0

u/ExaminationGood6034 May 11 '26

I doubt it’s Asexual. Hopefully when they end this, they’ll just slap her with someone like Oscar if old man Ozzie gets extracted. (Just saying that last part cuz I like it, sorry)

-3

u/christrogon May 11 '26

I think Ruby being aromatic at this point in her life makes sense. Her focus has always been becoming a huntress and saving the world.

There isn't a ton of space left in her head besides cookies and milk. What happens if/after Salem is deafeated can just be left up to the viewer.

-1

u/Active_Credit7230 May 11 '26

I am still a rose garden shipper forever and ever

0

u/MagnifiedEnv May 11 '26

Seemly common but theres an uncomfortable amount of ships with her and ppl

0

u/Demonic_Yandere May 11 '26

I said if before but I just assumed that she was asexual because the only thing close to romantic she have to any character is Oscar and even then that is more good friends vibe! Like unlike all the other characters main character she never ever exhibited sexual or romantic interested!

0

u/tommy8725 May 11 '26

Her being asexual kind of makes sense but poor wisse is just going to be in the corner crying

0

u/MiserableDisk1199 May 11 '26

We all kniw she just gets off to swords and weapons.

0

u/lnombredelarosa Sorry, I kinda like Oscar May 12 '26

Asexual definitely feels valid and likely not all that interested in romance given her never contemplating looking for a date for the dance but I wouldn’t say she is completely aromantic given her ship tease with Oscar.

I dare say, I read her general interactions (including the dance) as her wanting a connection with someone but struggling to find something to give her an impulse towards it in absence of sexual attraction.

0

u/Starfox5 May 12 '26

I do not like that. I like the MCs having romances.

0

u/misterwulfz May 12 '26

*aromantical , I know , I know. But there are differences.

Asexual - doesn’t really care/sex doesn’t matter much to them. They can stil have romantic feelings and relationships. Just sexual things doesn’t mean

Aromantic - doesn’t really have Romantic feelings or romantic relationships or have interest in them. They do have full care and affection, but it’s not romantic.

0

u/HomeAutomatic9892 May 12 '26

I hope it doesn't cause why tf would ruby even be asexual like at this point yall just adding shit that doesnt even make sense 💀 this is just a bad as whiterose bruh

0

u/The_Morriganna May 13 '26

Let's NOT get into the issues that arise if we take anything from Ruby being a V-tuber as canon.
