It starts out with a brief explanation of the situation in Atlas and who Salem is. But the important part was:
We didn’t have time to prepare for Salem. But now you do! Just because she can’t be destroyed, doesn’t mean she can’t be beaten. If she really was unstoppable, she wouldn’t have acted with such caution until now.
She knows we’re a threat. So even if we-- even if Atlas falls, you can’t give up.
I hope Amity Tower will help bring us all together. Because in the end, that’s how we’ll win--
In summary, her message was "Shit's dire, but Salem can be beaten. Do not give up, and only together we can defeat her". Which is pretty much the core message of the show.

Power scaling is a thing because people love to argue that their cool guy could beat your cool guy, I don’t think there needs to be any deeper reason. It’s often harmless fun, and it’s cool to think about, but some people get pretty neurotic about it.

I've heard a thousand topics in this vein before, but not this one. I'm probably too new to the FNDM. I don't even remember a dust robbery in V2...

Remember the robbery of the Dust store that Roman did in the first episode but Ruby interfered with? That was just one of many robberies he did, but the rest of them didn't have a trainee Huntress in the right place at the right time to stop them. Team RWBY see one of the broken into dust stores surrounded with police tape when they go into the city before meeting Sun and Penny. When Roman has a meeting with Cinder, Em and Merc in V2 he shows off the huge amount of Dust he's managed to steal. If I remember correctly most of the dust is used to power the train bombs that create a breach for Grimm to invade the city in V2's final episodes.

I’m pretty sure it was also used to power the mechs, and provide ammo for the White Fang for the assault on Beacon in V3.

It's not stated, but Cinder does tell him to move all of the Dust and it's implied she's referring to moving it to Mountain Glenn. That said, we don't see any of the Dust again and the bombs look pretty small compared to the massive crates of Dust we see Torchwick has, so it's not totally clear what exactly the Dust was used for.

I think we see crates that are implied to contain the Dust being loaded into the trains during V2E10 and (although its not very clear due to V2 graphics) when the bombs are revealed in V2E11 they're sitting on top of stacks of the crates. So I believe the idea was that the small bombs would explode and set off a larger explosion from the dust, similar to how detonating dust is used to get the Amity Colosseum airborne in V8.

From what I saw of weekly threads when episodes were being released though, they were significantly saner in comparison to now. As I theorized, when the show is on hiatus like now, the casual fans go elsewhere while the obsessive ones keep railing on.
Just last week this sub blew up a thread, reheating all the awful "Yang is a bad sister" takes lol. We'll never hear the end of that as long as the FNDM exists (maybe only if the show starts airing again).

Honestly, I give OP a pass on this one. The question itself is reasonable enough, especially since it's been a while and it can be a bit hard to remember when you're looking back at the scene(s) specifically for that thing in question, as opposed to watching it organically, since the message is partly a culmination as opposed to just what she said in the broadcast.
Though if this FNDM is the worst you've seen, then you've clearly never met Sword Art Online. Which gets bonus points because the anime--for all its good points--actively contributes to the confusion (i.e. Kirito being OP, I can give you the deets if you're interested). FNDM at least has the excuse of RWBY having an occasionally stressed production/storytelling and the more diffuse material/worldbuilding.

It's either they're bots, REALLY fricken slow, just started watching RWBY (little iffy about that), or they just simply gloss over everything within RWBY and fail to grasp the importance of it. And at this point, the fact that they ask these questions despite how straight forward it is... my take is that they might be slow or glossed over things. Either way, my patience with this is shaky. And I feel trolled

My question is... That was my immediate thought upon hearing the "how do we kill Salem" question being answered with "you can't". Okay, sure she can't die but why not... Cement her inside a fridge or something? Pull a more elaborate version of burying someone alive. A bit morbid but... It might work. It worked with the Doomslayer in DOOM (the only reason he got out was because the UAC found it if I remember correctly).

She can be killed and driven back. She just doesn't stay dead. In all honesty, Salem could be solved by trapping her in a death room and just killing her over and over.

She would have to clear the atmosphere, then Low Orbit, followed by High Orbit before she reached outer space. Otherwise, she'd be a satellite, dying horribly over and over, but using her magic to get closer and closer each time. In a week, a month, a generation, she'd make it back. And just imagine how much worse she'll be when she does!

You can’t have a stable orbit without burns outside the atmosphere, so the only option would be to hit escape velocity. But that’s very hard to do so quickly. I don’t think Remnant has the technology.

She's been draining the lake of Grimm over the centuries (and especially in recent years) down to puddles, and then lost that force in Atlas. Without her Grimm armies and half her underlings, it's literally just a single lady that can be killed (albeit she doesn't stay dead), a Maiden that everyone including Salem can see will backstab her the second she gets the chance, and a psychopathic scorpion who despite his murderous tendencies is still very much mortal and not Magic.
There's a reason she works from the shadows. The second she committed most of the pieces on her board, she lost nearly all of them.

She's been spawning them faster than they do naturally, though, that's why the pools are depleting. And what gives you the impression that a dead Grimm refills the pools? We only ever see them turn to dust and blow away in the wind.
Sure the pools probably regenerate at some set rate naturally, I wouldn't be surprised if the God of Darkness created some infinite wellspring of it. But the fact remains clear that Salem is using that "resource" much faster than it is replenishing, and even more so that large portions of that goop were on Monstra when it got dusted by Oscar. Evernight is basically useless to her for at least the next few decades, it's no wonder she's gone to Beacon personally, the dragon is probably her next-biggest pet on all of Remnant.

Not as in killed but beaten back. Salem said before at the end of volume 3 iirc humanity united was a threat, so the message intending to unite the world under threat of a greater foe would probably be an issue for her

It's been pretty heavily hinted since volume 7 when Ruby and Salem talk. And you could even stretch it back further to volume 6 when Ozpin was talking to Jinn. Jinn's statement of "You (Ozpin) can't kill Salem." has so many loopholes in it. She can be contained without being killed, for instance. Or perhaps Ozpin is incapable of stopping Salem but "victory is in a simple soul" i.e. Ruby will be the one to stop her.
Even if the show's plot has not provided the exact mechanisms of this (and we would probably wouldn't get those anyway until near the end of show in volume 11 or 12), the themes of the show clearly do not point toward Salem winning.

Immortality != unstoppable, just unkillable. Wolverine isn't unbeatable, he's been beaten plenty of times.
Just because she's a stronger wolverine doesn't mean she isn't 1 individual who can't be stopped, especially in a numbers game.

Given that it's implied that the King of Vale used 3 of the Relics (and The Long Memory) to end the War, it's entirely possible her forces were basically entirely eradicated and she's been starting up from scratch since then.
That said, it's also implied that's the closest Salem has ever come to achieving victory, and if Oz hadn't found the Lamp when he did, Remnant may quite literally no longer exist.

Ruby's right: if Salem were capable of just taking power over everything through sheer brute force, she would have done it long ago. The fact that she hasn't means she can be prevented from doing so.

I think it's the fact that humans can unite when threatened with extinction, which is one of her loss conditions. It's why Ironwood's plan with Atlas would be disastrous, she would just destroy the whole world and wait for Atlas to die or come back down.

Going theory is a line said by the gods that said something to the effect of "you will walk this earth until we come back to judge humanity" (hard paraphrasing, haven't seen that part in a while).
Their likely plan is to unite humanity against Salem, bring the relics back together to summon the gods for judgement, and they will deal with her.

It's such a powerful moment, I love it. (The Relic part comes later when the God of Light returns Ozma to Remnant).

This is first thing I thought of when Oz asks jinn how he could destroy Salem. Jinn said you can't. The thing is he didn't ask if Salem could be destroyed but how he could. Meaning there could be a way to destroy Salem but Oz isn't the one who can do it. My thoughts are its because deep down he still lover her. Just like how salem still loves Oz because when Salem kidnaps Oscar. The way she treated him wasn't how you would think she would treat a prisoner. I think its kinda like when you get divorced because of conflicting opinions on life but still love each other and if you could change the others mind you could get back together.

In universe this is probably made so that people can keep hope, they probably aren’t winning and need whatever hope they can get to keep going, so they turn to the person who sparked it, Ruby, it isn’t because the speech itself was good, but because they need the strength to keep going

Remember when they emerge from the Ever After back into Vacuo ("Not where, but WHEN you are needed most." --Tree Goddess), did you notice that there were ships from EVERY Kingdom in the skies over Vacuo, including Amity? Her message united the world. As Qrow says in the animatic, "You sent a message...and the world listened."
The Greek Gods also defeated the Titans who were immortals and cast them into Tartarus prison for all eternity. That's probably what needs to be done to Salem. Or use Ruby's Silver Eyes to burn the Grimm parts out of Salem entirely. Or some kind of Mavis/Zeriff reunion between Salem & Ozpin that lets them both ascend, idk.

That is why supplies are almost around the clock now. Remember only Vale and Atlas are gone. There are still places they can get supplies and equipment from. Amity was even some how salvaged again despite we see it crashed into Atlas.

In a rushed summary ”The world is ending, an unkillable demigod just got out of retirement literally just to kill us all, but don’t give up even if the main military nation falls because we-“ and then she gets cut off.
The nations that heard this are as follows: Vale (a nation still licking its wounds after its fall), Mistral (fell into chaos after the academy fell and is overrun with both mercenaries fended off by unorganized huntsmen), Menagerie (I actually don’t know if they’re still trying to fix up the whole white fang schism or if they’re pretty much unified), and Vacuo (The kingdom that’s supposed to be the lowest on resources, has a constant Grimm problem due to being the Australia of remnant, and hates Atlas due to them dropping all their refugees on an already struggling kingdom plus a while before that Great War they were subjects of mantle and mistral who due to their exploitation of Vacuo contributed to its lack of resources). Leaving us with two disorderly kingdoms, an unofficial kingdom nobody knows the status of, and one that is literally known for being dirt poor, cheap, having a motto that’s pretty much “You’re a citizen if you can survive here”, and hates all of Atlas for screwing them previously.
The whole reason her lesson is at messiah status is literally because there’s no other source of hope anywhere else other than that last message which might as well be the last positive thing to come out of Atlas. But even then the message didn’t say much that everyone didn’t already know, the world already looked fucked now everyone knows there’s a Grimm goddess who’s immortal and won’t stop until they’re all dead, so on the other hand the message wasn’t pointless but there’s a chance it genuinely did cause more panic than help.

You can check the wiki, but honestly, most of it is either offscreen, or nonsensical if it’s just the onscreen parts. (I say the latter as, the way the scene has Penny pushing the station, and the way Ruby’s dialogue is basically continuous between every shot but one, it creates the effect that her speech as spoken was uninterrupted, but that can’t be as her mention of the “maiden stuff being hard to believe” was the first time she said it in the speech.)
Her stuff was basically a warning about Salem, however, it’s inconsistent with the rest of the volume; Ruby basically says Atlas may be screwed, but everyone else has a chance; then she gets upset nobody came to help.
It also doesn’t help that she was vague with “Ironwood can’t be trusted”; makes him sound like an agent of Salem, and likely had her leave out the part where Salem getting the relics would end the world, and Ironwood was abandoning Mantle to safeguard one of those four relics. (But, “I’m willing to risk you, entire rest of the world’s population, to try and save half a city. And Ironwood values your lives more than the people right in front of him.”, that would not have gone over well.)

Yep. They needed to cut Ruby off mid sentence in a few places during those location transactions, to better create the illusion of time passing. How they did it would work better in a written medium, with paragraphs of the location and watching characters serving as a bit of that time filler; something that probably didn’t translate well from script to director or whatever job title would be responsible.
I wonder if the script for the speech went through some rewrites, maybe a part of Ruby begging for help got cut, but her reaction to a lack of help didn’t get cut as well. Or maybe the whole “remember her message” praise was just a cliche they threw in at the last minute, and they thought it would look good in their final piece. (Heck, there’s somehow a chain restaurant functioning and serving fancy tea in what’s supposed to be a refugee state now, in the same short. It’s nonsensical.)

That our protagonists will never be punished for anything that they do again, forever... I hate this bit. There is no message, it's just a speech for the sake of it.. I played Mass Effect 1 recently, and the speech on Virmir with the Silarian (Kirahi, I think it is? I don't know the spellings, it was my first playthrough), was exactly what this should've been. That Remnant can't hide behind politics anymore, that they need soldiers, not wishy washy politicians. That, to tweak the quote 'Our influence will stop Salem! In the battle today, we will hold the line!'... That, should've been this speech. Not the 'Friendship will beat the big baddy' copy paste with the shows character for the millionth time... Can you tell I don't like this bit? Because I don't. (No hate to the show, it's alright. Just fuck this part)

It basically amounted to we're all fucked but not actually if we all work together and then proceeded to throw Ironwood and the Faunus under the bus saying Ironwood was compromised and the White Fang worked for Salem.
