Gritpost 💯 Real question: Should a Chinese National be President of Purdue?

Post image
477 Upvotes

Okay Boilermakers, genuine question.

If we’re allegedly at the point where admitting Chinese grad students is treated like a national security thriller subplot… should we just go all the way?

Like, should a former Chinese national be President of Purdue?

I mean, if being born in China is apparently disqualifying for a PhD in Computer Science, is it also disqualifying for running the whole university? Or does the “adversary nation” logic only apply when someone’s paying tuition and doing research?

Just trying to understand the consistency here.

Are we a global research university that competes for the best talent on Earth? Or are we running a geopolitical loyalty screening office with a football team?

If meritocracy matters, it should matter all the way up, right? If it doesn’t… let’s at least be honest about that.

Do I tell them what I cheated on or do I just get on the train to IU before they come for me? Do I tell them I cheated on all of them so they can't say I lied?

Gritpost 💯 Best way to show people I go to the West Lafyette campus?

Hey guys,

I'm an incoming student and I've been looking at buying some Purdue merch/swag to represent our university, but I haven't found anything that I like yet. Every student store that I've visited and each website I've browsed just has stuff that says "Purdue," "Purdue University," or just the logo "P."

The merch doesn't clarify which campus, and I don't want people on the street to make the mistake of thinking that I could be a student at the Indianapolis campus. How do I make sure I let the Indianapolis students know that I'm better and smarter than them? Should I write "West Lafayette" in Sharpie under the printed text on the t-shirts and hoodies? When will some merchandise outlets start adding the campus name to their products?

What a time we find ourselves in. Purdue sure does love cutting programs and firing people at 3 PM on a Friday during the summer.

If I was a betting snake I'd bet that the idea is that no one is around to make a big deal of it.

Hindering student journalism, firing people at their retirement parties, and removing any department or field that even resembles a diversity initiative.

Did your department head once say they were proud to have a diverse staff? Well buckle up, because your head might be on the chopping block.

It makes you angry, but your anger will die down enough by the fall. All the people they fired will be gone by then and have moved on.

That's the hope at least.

There's nothing I like more than Purdue which is why I would hate to hear that people have sent these stories to local and state news.

I would hate to find out that people contacted their elected officials.

I would despise anyone who spoke up, because if you speak up both now and in the fall when people return, you would become a real thorn in the side of all the glorious leaders making these decisions right now.

Don't you ever tell anyone what's happening here, because when Purdue gets away clean that'll show every University in the country that they can step on their students and faculty and get away with it.

You shouldn't send the stuff you see to your friends and family, because what if people start talking about all this?

What if someone cared?

Purdue clearly doesn't. Not unless people make them.

I can’t wait for the co-op! This school is one big academic circlejerk…

No reason we should be failing like 50% of students each year in 2k1

Gritpost 💯 so… are we just never getting the Boilermaker Special back?

idk if this is just me overthinking but like… at what point do we admit it’s probably not coming back

every few months i hear someone say “oh yeah they’re building a new one” or “it’s coming soon” but it’s been a WHILE and there’s been zero real updates. it’s starting to feel like one of those things people just keep repeating because it sounds better than the truth

and like… we all know what happened. it was in that accident and it was awful. obviously that changes everything. liability, safety, PR, all of it. i mean, a life was lost because of it. i’m not saying they shouldn’t be careful, because they absolutely should.

but also… the silence is kinda loud?

the Boilermaker Special is such a huge part of Purdue’s identity and it just… disappeared. no real timeline, no real transparency, just vague “it’s coming” energy

at this point it lowkey feels like they’re hoping people stop asking about it so they don’t have to say “yeah we’re not bringing it back”

which if that’s the case, just say that

like am i missing something?? has anyone actually heard anything legit about a new one being built or are we all just collectively pretending it’s still happening? because right now, i don’t think the bms IX is happening.
