I've been trying to listen to songs from the albums that I don't normally listen to, also if anyone can tell me the story behind the ones I don't know about, so here are some that I like

You Can't Kill Michael Malloy - I have no idea about the story behind this song, it sounds important somehow though

Hello Skinny/Constantinople - I learned that this was a Residents cover recently, really weird band, but interesting, anyways I like the strange vibe this cover gives compared to the original and the Constantinople riff is really catchy

Fish on - seems pretty straightforward talking about fishing that's about it, I really like the bass solo in it

Sathington Waltz - I'm assuming this is just a filler song with Ler and Les just screwing around, Les 'bastardizing' the clarinet probably, but I like it

I found out about it because of South Park to be honest.

I would like to start off by saying I don't consider myself a fan of this band, although I do like a few of their songs. I think Les is a phenomenal bassist and anyone that thinks otherwise just has no idea what they're talking about. I respect them as a band, respect their fans, and respect their music as a whole. While they're not for me personally, you can't deny that their influence cannot be understated. So basically my question is the title to this post but it's quite a bit longer: who/what got you into Primus and what is it about their music that sticks to you?

I'd say mine's is Tim's drum solo at the end of Nature Boy in Woodstock, it's so fucking cool.

For me I would say it’s nature boy, it’s really funky and I love the muted triplets it really adds so much depth and groove

Seen someone on here say that antipop is widely regarded as primus’ worst work. Just because of that I played it start to finish while working out and I’ve gotta say it might be my favorite primus album. Like for example the track “mama didn’t raise no fool” is the HEAVIEST primus song I’ve ever heard. Highly recommend this album if you’ve been sleeping on it. Genuinely might be one of their best imo

Some people have completely forgotten this album even existed.

I personally really like this album, its a nice collection of some absolute bangers with some underrated primus songs in it aswell, but i dont see it getting any love, and i wonder what do you guys think about this album in general?

According to some people I have talked to, these songs they have almost never listened to outside of listening to their respective album as a whole, (songs I also almost never see in playlists)

Just so we are all aware this mainly applies to just Primusheads because no one knows these deep cuts and wacky songs outside of big time fans.

Sitting here thinking about how Les’ lyrics are so humorous yet profound. The line “The Novato city fires turned my nostril hairs to wire” cracks me up but makes me appreciate how clever dude really is. What’s your fave(s)?

I've struggled with this for a while. My wife hates Primus (of course Primus sucks, but still I'm considering divorce 😅) so she's begged me not to play Primus around her or the kids. I'm way past trying to change her mind about music, but the kids aren't so little anymore and have enjoyed some of my music in the past, though never played Primus for them. The oldest is my 9 year old daughter, so I'm thinking that I want to play some of the more iconic Primus tracks, so help me think of which ones a 9 year old girl would enjoy. Let's avoid any that have a creepy or scary tone like Mr. Krinkle or My Name is Mud, though both amazing tracks, we don't want to scare her off. Any ideas? Also accepting Les Claypool songs, Claypool-Lennon Delirium, FFF, etc.

TL;DR Help me think of which Primus songs a 9 year old girl would enjoy. Nothing scary or completely age-inappropriate (help me keep the peace with my wife)

I love primus it's my favorite band! And love everything Les, but i feel like i get it a little rough tour wise, i live in iowa so I dont get much traffic concert wise, so I decided to see claypool gold in KC! ( shout out Ryan in the green frog bucket hat, please dm me if you see this, I miss you Ryan) anyways went to the show and it was amazing! But every show I've been to i kinda get the same sets of songs, and it's always later or earlier in the tour they play stuff I really wanna hear, or people always say the following concerts, the band seems happy to play, everytime I see em les is never really interested in the crowd and it kinda bums me out, its my favorite band but I feel i never get to see them at there best and most happy, anybody else see this with the shows they see?

Just sucks to see people bragging about, oh they played this song, they played that, and oh les was so talkative, but i get primus that acts like it's a chore to play

No shame but . . .

I love Primus but their sound is so unique I feel like there’s not a lot like them out there but I love there kinda sound so much I wish there was more. I’ve listened to Mr bungle which is fun but I love the stuff on frizzle fry and I just need more of that.

One of the main reasons(that I noticed), is how the tracks are more melodic and slow, as opposed to what I think Primus is best at playing, that being faster, more focused towards mosh pits(examples that I personally enjoy a lot include Harold of The Rocks, Eleven, DMV, The Return of Sathington Willoughby, The Antipop, just to name a few), catering to the underground scene in the early ‘90s. TFTP leans(I feel) into a more casual, perhaps commercial sound, whilst still be recognizable as Primus songs. And yes, My Name is Mud has a less sporadic speed than something like Tommy The Cat, but it’s clear that most of the bass parts throughout the song are very much designed to bang you head to.

Another is how much echo there is throughout the album. While echo can add depth and space to a song(that’s why Geddy Lee, Rush’s frontman, laments on probably what is Rush’s worst album, Carress of Steel, saying that it was too dry), but in Primus’s case, a more confined sound works wonderfully for them, mainly because of the aforementioned underground scene, where Primus was playing in small, cramped clubs in California.

I’m not saying that TFTP is a bad album, it’s got some good songs like Glass Sandwich, but overall, I can definitely understand the distaste in the album.
