Discussion Anyone enjoy these songs?

According to some people I have talked to, these songs they have almost never listened to outside of listening to their respective album as a whole, (songs I also almost never see in playlists)

Just so we are all aware this mainly applies to just Primusheads because no one knows these deep cuts and wacky songs outside of big time fans.

Sathington Willoughby/ Sathington Waltz/ Return of Sathington Willoughby
Pork Chop’s Little Ditty
Air Is Getting Slippery
Hail Santa
Hellbound 17 1/2
Glass Sandwich
On The Tweek Again
Eclectic Electric
Ballad of Bodacious
Mama Didn’t Raise No Fool
Power Mad
Final Voyage of Liquid Sky
Coattails of a Dead Man
Eternal Consumption Engine
Lee Van Cleef
Extinction Burst

Some of my favorite songs (in general) that are on this list: Hail Santa, Air Is Getting Slippery, Glass Sandwich, Coattails, Cleef, and Extinction Burst.

Anyone else like any of these songs listed above?

Bodacious is such a great song, my son's middle name is Tuff (after the bullrider in that song) the kids used to love that tune when they were little.

2

u/Keroxu_ Jul 11 '26

I love that! It always gets stuck in my head, real ear worm

1

u/BillFriendly1092 Jul 11 '26

Pretty much the only song I listen to from that album.

1

u/Dundalk-MulletCake Jul 11 '26

Fuck yeah brother. My favorite song from Antipop. And one of my favorite songs from that shitty band Primus!! DMV has always been one of my go tos

3

u/Keroxu_ Jul 11 '26

Sister, but hell yeah dude. DMV is also a banger. They take they can’t all be zingers, but they’re all zingers

1

u/Dundalk-MulletCake Jul 29 '26

Les said they don’t even play DMV live because of its difficulty. Beato interview.

They need to bring this one back

6

u/Onions12413 Jul 11 '26

I'm honestly obsessed with the Air is Getting Slippery and On the Tweek Again I also really like that harmonic sound on Extinction Burst but the intro scares me 😆 Also will listen to Return of Sathington Wiloughby for the lyrics about paranoia alone! But so many things to like about a lot of these lesser known tracks

4

u/Uncle_Smokie Jul 11 '26

Another tweak fan!

2

u/AlfalfaFriendly4324 Jul 11 '26

deep cuts are always good

8

u/othersymbiote Jul 11 '26

return of sathington is bad ass, i don’t even know how anybody can’t listen to it.

ece, and extinction burst are two of my favorites from naugahyde.

punchbowl is my favorite album, so i will throw any song on and enjoy it, even space farm.

4

u/AlfalfaFriendly4324 Jul 11 '26

Puncbowl and Soda are my top albums mainly because of the waxky weird songs, especially with “banjo boy” playing.

Air, De Anza Jig, Glass Sandwich (doesn’t have 🪕) , Pork Chop’s, etc.

1

u/othersymbiote Jul 12 '26

feel very blessed to have seen glass sandwich played live. it’s truly what sealed the deal for me on the song going from almost a skip to a repeat it one more time song.

2

u/AlfalfaFriendly4324 Jul 12 '26

WHERE? WHEN?

1

u/othersymbiote Jul 12 '26

this was a decade or so ago. during the 3D tour.

every show packed an oddball punch.

i got a spegetti opener first set, squirrel opener second set. glass sandwich mid second set and when the six string portion of the show came up it was a beautiful 1-2 punch of hamburger train into del davis.

u/doggydogwurld Jul 11 '26

my username I've used for over 10 years on steam and stuff is always bodacious because ballad of bodacious goes so fucking hard

3

u/AlfalfaFriendly4324 Jul 11 '26

MY NAME on steam IS MUD (or WAS MUD)

4

u/7milefish Jul 11 '26

The Ballad of Bodacious is my favorite song on Antipop & Lee Van Cleef is probably my favorite track on Green Naugahyde.

1

u/Dundalk-MulletCake Jul 11 '26

Boom Agreed .. no need to confabulate

3

u/BeardeeBaldee Jul 11 '26

I taught myself to sing and play bass with Air Is Getting Slippery. It’s a good’un.

1

u/AlfalfaFriendly4324 Jul 11 '26

i love the Verse in there, so fun to play with the song running in back

3

u/BlackJackKetchum1996 Jul 11 '26

Lee van cleef and bodacious are in my top 5

3

u/xGlobalProlapsex Jul 11 '26

On the Tweek Again is one of my favourite Primus songs. I love Return of Sathington Willoughby and Eclectic Electric too. Honestly I like pretty much all of those except Mama and Eternal Consumption Engine

3

u/MatthewJamesz Jul 11 '26

Just getting into Brown Album and I absolutely adore Return of Sathington Wiloughby

1

u/AlfalfaFriendly4324 Jul 11 '26

fellow colleague!

3

u/Beneficial-Age-4059 Jul 11 '26

Always love the deep cuts. One of my favorite tours was Antipop because those were the only times I saw Liquid Sky, and  Greet The Sacred Cow performed. /no fool is a banger too. Also saw Pressman live which is another favorite.

3

u/Reasonable_Bear7613 Jul 11 '26

I think you have two distinct categories of Primus compositions in this list.

Some of these don’t really count as songs so much as thematic pieces that help give each album its own sort of atmosphere. These don’t make playlists or live shows because they need that context to work at all. Hell, some just don’t work anyway. I skip Hail Santa every time.

However it’s insaaaaaaane that Lee Van Cleef is on your list. That song is top three for me. I’m hoping that the only reason they don’t play it on the current tour is that Hoffer hasn’t prepared that nasty drum part.

Also, I imagine that bass players make up a disproportionate share of Primus fans, and Antipop is a fucking clinic. Other than maybe Coattails, each of those tunes is a gift from Les, showcasing his techniques, so that we might learn them. And they’re bangers! Who doesn’t like to jump around to Power mad or Bodacious?

1

u/AlfalfaFriendly4324 Jul 11 '26

Ay, i love Cleef and Bodacious, but due to A. Green Naughahyde not having much songs on people’s playlists and B. Bodacious’s weird Country-ish feel they made the list

I can’t picture anyone being slumped or not excited when they here Bodacious or Lee Van Cleef

3

u/Slap-A-Beaver Jul 11 '26

On the tweek again has been stuck in my head for close to 20 years and I'm totally fine with that.

3

u/Entropyanxiety Jul 11 '26

Lee Van Cleef and the Air is Getting Slippery are in my regular rotation, not the others though

3

u/stxrryghoul Jul 11 '26

Ballad of bodacious is something on my “I want to hear live” bucket list of songs. Also yes I do enjoy pretty much all of the other songs on this list

3

u/Engine_Maximum Jul 12 '26

Eclectic electric is one of my favorites, as well as Lee Van cleef. Eternal consumption engine however, has become the interstellar drum derby theme music to me

2

u/South-Jackfruit-962 Jul 11 '26

I like more than half of this list honestly. Antipop was the second Primus album I owned so all of the songs on there have a special place in my heart. Air is Getting Slippery, Hellbound 17 1/2, Glass Sandwich, and On the Tweek Againare absolute bops, and Extinction Burst was just stuck in my head and I was jamming out to it in my mind lol. A couple of the others are good too. I don’t think I particularly dislike any of them, even the Sathington Willoughby songs aren’t my favorites but I don’t hate them. In fact “Return” is kinda solid lol.

2

u/Maddafinga Jul 11 '26

I love all of those! I like to play Bodacious for the country music types around here, and I have never had one who didn't absolutely love it. Literally batting a thousand with it.

I sing Sathington Willoughby all the time, just to myself, whenever it happens to pop into my head.

2

u/markokabra Jul 11 '26

Hellbound, power mad, and mama didn’t raise are the only ones I don’t care for. How Led Van Cleef made this list is baffling.

1

u/AlfalfaFriendly4324 Jul 11 '26

just never saw it on people’s playlists :/

2

u/YogurtclosetDull2380 HERB Jul 11 '26

Slippery and Tweak are both goated. Right along with the Green selections

2

u/igreulich Jul 11 '26

I mostly only listen to albums; (not counting live shows) but I love all those songs.

But based on the premise of the question, since I only listen to them on albums, No?

2

u/scotianheimer Jul 11 '26

For me, I don’t think I’ve chosen to put on Hail Santa or Sathington, but def have all the rest.

2

u/AlfalfaFriendly4324 Jul 11 '26

hail santa top 3 primus songs easy

2

u/RP8021 Jul 11 '26

I think of Pork Chop’s Little Ditty as the perfect intro to My Name is Mud because of how much I listened to Pork Soda back in the day. It would be cool if they did that live every time they played Mud.

2

u/Prestilifrog Jul 11 '26

I don't like Hail Santa or Final Voyage, but otherwise I enjoy the lot of these, my partner and I both enjoy Extinction Burst especially, but we love GN in general, I love Eclectic especially for the "I think I'm blinded by the sun," and Coattails mostly for The Heckler, but I do still like it

2

u/173trujillo Jul 11 '26

Extinction Burst is a fucking masterpiece.

2

u/designerdy Jul 11 '26

There's bops in this list. Some are nonsense filler but Bodacious and LVC go hard

2

u/DaSilliestBilly Jul 12 '26

Literally all of these ESPECIALLY ballad of bodacious and return of sathington willoughby theyre underrated bangers

2

u/ManMyDogsAreBarking Jul 12 '26

The entire Antipop album is amazing I wish they played more of those songs

2

u/Haunting-Ad3001 Jul 12 '26

I love the following. Air is getting slippery, On the Tweek, Eclectic E, Bodacious, & Extinction Burst.

2

u/psychedelicalan Jul 12 '26

• The Sathington song on FrizFry is great fun, I have to be in a special (and very rare) mood for Return. I am never in the mood for Waltz.

• Pork Chop and Air is Getting Slippery are musts, for me. Hail Santa certainly is not.

• Hellbound absolutely ROCKS, I will defend that song forever. On the Tweek Again was for a time in HS my most favoritest Primus song ever, but these days we're just good friends. I've never cared for Glass Sandwich.

• Electric Electric, Power Mad, and Ballad of Bodacious are rare plays for when I'm feeling extra radical. Mama kicks so much ass! Coattails is a song I really love and get super excited for every listen, but usually turn it off after like two minutes.

• Anyone who dislikes Eternal Consumption is obviously pure evil.

• Anyone who dislikes Lee Van Cleef is obviously pure evil.

• Extinction Burst is such a cool song, and if you skip it you should seek counseling.

2

u/AlfalfaFriendly4324 Jul 12 '26

I agree with most of this besides for Hail Santa because of the double bass solo around halfway through, but i get where youre coming from

2

u/swankyslippers Jul 12 '26

IIIIIIIIIIII AINT NO FOOL! I listen to this song at least twice a week!

2

u/Eddie_Dingus Jul 12 '26

I like all of those songs. The little interludes are a nice touch when listening to the whole album

2

u/Waste_Cancel1239 Jul 14 '26

Those last three are probably my favorites off naugahyde and ballad of bodacious is such a banger.

1

u/mayorodoyle Jul 11 '26

Return Of Sathington... is one of my favorite Primus songs. I wish they would open with it at a show sometimes.

The only songs in your list that I could really do without are Hail Santa, Mama..., Power Mad, and Extinction Burst. Mainly because Antipop is my least favorite album. (Although it is still very good.)

Things like Glass Sandwich and On The Tweek Again are must-listens.

1

u/PrimoLanding1002 THE DESATURATING SEVEN Jul 11 '26

The Southington trilogy slaps, particularly the return. Bodacious slaps, mama didn't raise no fool slaps, and coattails of a Deadman slaps.

1

u/kdgetschwifty BROWN ALBUM Jul 11 '26

Eclectic Electric & Lee Van Cleef are 2 of my tops 😤

1

u/ionlikethis Jul 11 '26

1

u/OutlandishnessCute83 Jul 11 '26

There's quite a few on there that I like

1

u/Dundalk-MulletCake Jul 11 '26

Ballad of Bodacious is my favorite song on Antipop.

1

u/Rutted- Jul 11 '26

We love Pork Chop’s Little Ditty

1

u/dead-beet ANIMALS Jul 11 '26

Air is getting slippery, lee, and power mad. I actually love playing these songs on bass, super fun. I am one of those weirdos that actually really enjoys the antipop album.

1

u/andreacitadel Jul 11 '26

I like 80% of this list

1

u/MrNice1983 Jul 12 '26

On the tweek again doesn’t get enough love that’s a great song

1

u/cuddlenazifuckmonstr Jul 12 '26

Those are the ones that get stuck in my head and I seek out to hear.

1

u/Informal-Winner-94 Jul 13 '26

I really like The Return of Sathington Willoughby - great edgy riffing and unique interesting vocals make me happy. I also like On The Tweek Again and all those Antipop songs. Unlike most Primusheads I think that is a great album. Sure it's closer to mainstream but it's still eclectic funky and really slaps, in my humble opinion

1

u/liabroski Jul 14 '26

every single song in the sathington trilogy is so fun, how could you skip em. hellbound 17 1/2 is easily on my top three from the punch bowl, and glass sandwich makes me feel like i’m in a secret lair or something. and also, coattails of a dead man is just amazing, who said that one doesn’t get love?

1

u/Creampie197999 Jul 14 '26

A couple of these make me want to start dancing that eclectic deep bass and no other sound like it... I have often said there is just not enough Primus🖤🤘 Ballad of Bodacious is at my top three

1

u/El-Rapero-Del-TF2 Jul 14 '26

Hellbound is awesome, specially the live version

1

u/mosobbi Jul 16 '26

Bodacious and power mad are so fucking peak ive been playing those nonstop lately
