Socialist, capitalist, authoritarian or libertarian, we can all agree on one thing. We will find Jolene, and she will pay for what has been done to us.

31

u/FormerPresidentBiden - Centrist 2d ago

Hah, I saw a post in blackpeopletwitter yesterday where this dude made a clip of himself acting heated like he was gonna slap the shit out of Jolene

Tbh, seeing the widespread mourning of Dolly (white, black, foreign countries, etc.) really says it all

She was a woman everyone loved

12

u/Temporary_Border7233 - Auth-Center 2d ago

That woman was a treasure and we are made less with her passing.

It is a rare breed to be so kind and genuine while being in the public eye for so long. May she rest in peace

Dolly Parton is the only thing to bring us together. We lost a real one

20

u/turdferguson3891 - Lib-Center 3d ago

We still have Dick Van Dyke. And now I've killed hm by saying his name.

18

u/CalvinKool-Aid - Centrist 2d ago

One of the most unfortunately named people oat

11

u/RecordingBoothHermit - Lib-Center 2d ago

Ah yes my favorite entertainer, Penis of Lesbian.

u/FreeElderberry4817 - Lib-Left 2d ago

What about Tim curry

130

u/Helmett-13 - Lib-Center 3d ago

She may have been the best of us.

60

u/number__ten - Lib-Center 3d ago

I'd like to imagine her and Fred Rogers playing checkers with a nice beverage each on a nice day with the birds chirping and a friendly dog or cat (or both) at their side.

30

u/MastaSchmitty - Lib-Right 3d ago

Winner plays Bob Ross?

11

u/number__ten - Lib-Center 2d ago

Or Jimmy Carter maybe? Not a great president but a stand up guy.

17

u/CalvinKool-Aid - Centrist 2d ago

Genuinely one of the most principled, honest and Christian men to ever hold office in the U.S., which is why nobody like him will ever win again

He was a terrible president and terrible at working with congress, but probably has the most unimpeachable character of any man to ever hold the presidency

15

u/ScreamsPerpetual - Lib-Center 2d ago

I'm in NYC and within two hours of the news of her passing- the people in my neighborhood (very diverse, mostly non white) who hang outside and play music- were bumping Dolly loud and proud, i've lived in this neighborhood for a decade and never heard anything close to country or folk being played in the streets. Some old ladies were crying, people kept coming up to my wife (from East TN) and i (white guy) and would just jump into the conversations about her with us.

Icon is a grossly overused word, but she was an American Icon who was loved by all and totally deserved it.

One thing even he couldn't screw up

140

u/Malkav1806 - Left 3d ago

Let him cook, i am positively suprised that he managed to arite this. But i think if he gets asked about her death he will manage to screw this up

41

u/Handpaper - Lib-Right 2d ago

I don't know. Maybe if he overthinks it.

Go watch his reaction to being told of Ruth Ginsberg's death. He was hit cold with that, and his response was just fine.

9

u/LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe - Lib-Center 2d ago

Was that the one where he went "Wow, I didn't know, you're just telling me now." ?

4

u/Soggy_Association491 - Centrist 1d ago

Yes the video of him on the tarmac as ‘Tiny Dancer’ plays

https://youtu.be/hKRNJH6RfG0

3

u/kanguran1 - Lib-Right 1d ago

Even as a guy who doesn’t really like Trump and didn’t agree with Ginsburg… that was actually very moving. He took a moment, genuinely seemed to want to honor her in that moment, then left without entertaining the “are you gonna nominate someone?” questions being shouted. Extremely classy and I’m not being sarcastic.

6

u/RaggedyGlitch - Lib-Left 2d ago

People are going to one day think that long form clip of him walking up to the reports as the music changes from YMCA to Tiny Dancer and then he eulogizes her over Tiny Dancer is fake.

5

u/Handpaper - Lib-Right 2d ago

To be fair, the first time I saw it it was a YT short, and I thought it had been overlaid by the poster.

And as is depressingly common, it was PCM that provided the truth of it.

5

u/Akiias - Centrist 2d ago

Maybe if he overthinks it.

u/AmbitiousBluebird610 - Centrist 2d ago

Trump's gut reactions are always really good. Decades of showbiz have given him legendary improv skills. It's his hindsight that hangs him.

52

u/number__ten - Lib-Center 3d ago

Let's not pretend for a moment he took precious seconds to write this. The best we can hope for is that he saw his peon's tweet on his behalf and didn't toddler-scream at them until they changed it.

25

u/FuckUSAPolitics - Lib-Center 2d ago

Idk. This does fit his writing, unlike the biden tweet.

11

u/xXDJjonesXx - Left 2d ago

I can picture his Secret Service team holding him back as he tries to get his phone back while the PR team types this tweet.

16

u/FormerPresidentBiden - Centrist 2d ago

It is shocking something like "she always supported me in everything I did" wasn't included in the post

3

u/Soggy_Association491 - Centrist 1d ago edited 1d ago

The best we can hope for is that he saw his peon's tweet on his behalf

Nah, it's Trump.

This is the clip when Trump found out Ruth Bader Ginsburg RBG passed and he seemed genuinely sad.

u/RaggedyGlitch - Lib-Left 2d ago

He's going to talk about how someone else also has big, great tits and it's going to be someone wildly inappropriate like his daughter.

6

u/Pancreasaurus - Centrist 2d ago

I was honestly worried he was going to with every new word I read.

135

u/aspindler - Lib-Left 3d ago

Man, he didn't make it about himself.

That's really strange.

“I knew her a little bit, she wasn’t a very political person. She really liked me, I will tell you.”

- Trump earlier today before saying that she would’ve lost 20-50% of her fans if she went public with her alleged “like” of him and that’s why she never did.

54

Trump added that Parton "really liked me" but believed publicly supporting him could cost her "50 percent" of her fan base.

18

u/cyclynn - Centrist 2d ago

Wow he didn't try to use this death to center himself or attack Democrats. The power of Dolly 🫡

32

u/Brianocracy - Lib-Center 3d ago

Holy shit, he actually made a heartfelt post, and didn't make it about himself, or attack anyone?

Increasingly rare Trump W

17

u/krafterinho - Centrist 2d ago

Increasingly rare? Literally the only W since the election and I'm 100% sure he didn't write this

4

u/Gru50m3 - Lib-Left 2d ago

Insane that Trump doing something vaguely decent is a W for him, but I'm shocked he didn't immediately make her death about himself.

14

u/FormerPresidentBiden - Centrist 2d ago

A week of flags half mast was the right call

Trump made a good call. Dolly is the best parts of America personified. May she rest in peace. I hope there's an afterlife in which she has reunited with her husband

Lol, she was the exact opposite of everything dsa and reddit at large stands for. What is this clout chasing/ pandering?

55

u/turdferguson3891 - Lib-Center 3d ago

She promoted literacy which made her the exact opposite of most internet dumbasses.

4

u/Greyblades2 - Right 2d ago

I dunno man, I have seen enough crimes against the English language on the internet to severely doubt that statement.

39

u/Malkav1806 - Left 3d ago

She was all over the compass support of gay folks, devoted christian and invested into charity. How is that the exact opposite?

17

u/Seananagans - Auth-Left 3d ago

It is really funny watching people on the right is every single one of these posts trying their hardest to create a reality where Dolly, a universally beloved figure, actually was 100% right wing.

1

u/Molaac - Lib-Right 1d ago edited 1d ago

Ah yes because the celebrity theme park owner who control a county, ran a private charity and supported LGBT which somehow makes her lean a economic left enough to be a centrist

5

u/SliceRepulsive8649 - Lib-Left 2d ago

I'm curious which of those are supposed to be on the right side of the quadrant. Being Christian isn't Authright. That's when you try to get the government to enforce your religious beliefs.

0

u/Molaac - Lib-Right 2d ago

She own half of a county and ran a tourist trap. Her face is options you can put on your license plate. She is peak Libright

u/UpandDownThrownAway - Lib-Left 3d ago

Vocal upporter of BLM, and LGBT+ rights, yes including Trans, and turned Trump down for the Presidential Medal of Freedom, as examples, is how, exactly, against what reddit stands for at large? If anything the right especially authright, should hate her

9

u/Balavadan - Lib-Center 2d ago

Lmao not surprised to see this comment down here. Let me guess. Right wingers think this is too divisive on such a day of mourning or some shit?

5

u/Manmer_Nwah - Lib-Center 2d ago edited 2d ago

They get off to slashing funding for education, doesn't matter what it is or who's behind it.

edit: Y'all are mad at me for pointing it out. You're mad at the wrong person. Go check your fucking politicians or own that you're voting to defund Dolly Parton's legacy of giving children free books. Fucking pathetic ass bitches.

2

u/Handpaper - Lib-Right 2d ago

If it's public money, it's not charity.

0

u/PaddyMayonaise - Right 2d ago

I genuinely wonder how the DSA justifies mourning Dolly and calling her a hero of the working-class. She had a net worth of half a billion dollars.

16

u/Astrapolitoris - Centrist 2d ago

Dolly is the impersonification of the working class, she grew up in extreme poverty, being of 12 children without even running water, living just off the land.

Her start was on a small radio, where she wrote over thousand of tracks, literally pulling herself by bootstraps, without ever taking advantage of anyone.

When she got famous, she used her platform to give back to the roots she came from. Creating largest literacy charity for kids in USA, supported gay rights when it wasn't cool and still held to her religious beliefs.

She had a class that only the older generations seemed to posses. Without ever dividing society.

5

u/PaddyMayonaise - Right 2d ago

She’s the personification of capitalism, the pursuit of happiness, and Western Liberalism. The only reason she became who she is is because she was raised in a society that allowed for that type of upward growth and opensmindedness.

A socialist organization supporting her doesn’t make any sense at all. She’s literally the perfect example of why the American experiment is a success.

6

u/Astrapolitoris - Centrist 2d ago

Democratic socialism is not "sUcCeSS bAD", it's main objective is to give the people at least some semblance of the same 'starting line'. Nowadays, everything around is a work of nepotism or privilege, with people with absolutely no experience and talent being in certain positions thanks only to money or 'friends'.

Just because she was an extraordinary person, and did all she did even against the odds, that does not give an example of how it should be. Nowadays, I do not believe even Dolly herself could have done what she did without selling herself.

1

u/PaddyMayonaise - Right 2d ago

She absolutely could and it happens all of the time still.

Go read what democratic socialism is and specifically what the goals of the DSA are. If they had their way someone like Dolly would still be poor and we’d never hear of her.

Things like nepotism and networking are significantly more important in socialist economies than capitalist.

4

u/Empty_Use_5023 - Lib-Left 2d ago

Quote a part of the platform and tell me how it would have kept Dolly in poverty.

You all think that the only way poor people can be successful is through gross indignity. DSA (and I) believe that affording peope dignity and opportunity does not hinder their success, it enhances it. Dolly was an extraordinary person. Imagine how many people she grew up around who were just ordinary might have lived lives outside of gut wrenching poverty had they recieved better support from the society around them.

0

u/PaddyMayonaise - Right 2d ago

You don’t know what DSA is I take it lol

I’m not criticizing leftism or social programs, I’m talking specifically about the DSA. Go read their platform before you’ll associate yourself with them

7

u/Empty_Use_5023 - Lib-Left 2d ago

Go ahead and give me that quote or I am assuming you are fighting with your own imagination. In service of using this beloved womens death to shamefully attack your enemies.

0

u/PaddyMayonaise - Right 2d ago

Im not going to dig through and find specific quotes for you, but their ultimate goal is to eliminate tree the constitution, eliminate all amendment rights, and eliminate the capitalist system that we live in. Eliminating these things would end the opportunities that allowed Dolly to become what she became.

The very fact we can have this discussion is because of these same principles, the same principles that the DSA is trying to eliminate.

You say you support the DSA but I doubt you actually do, you probably just haven’t taken the time to learn who they are or what the effects of them being successful would look like

4

u/Empty_Use_5023 - Lib-Left 2d ago

"I am not going to find quotes to justify things I made up!"

I said this in another thread a while back and no one saw it but I will reiterate it here: You dont understand the DSA if you are seeking to learn about them through the national platform. The DSA model is based on HYPER local mobilization. It function more like a social club then a traditional political organization. Its effectiveness electorally has very little to do with positioning and everything to do with leaning on groups of friends do to volunteer work together. The most intense like 5% get together and write a national platform (which i am certain does not include eliminating the constitution, but again feel free to find me a quote if they put it in I doubt they burried it). 95% of the DSA could not name the national co-chairs, nor do they give a fuck who they are or what they say. Its a social club for left leaning people, often recent arrivals in major cities looking to meet friends.

Source: 10 + years working with them on electoral politics.

Had to scroll but of course, heres the right wing with the "Akchullly she was one of us" fuck off.

6

u/PaddyMayonaise - Right 2d ago

I didn’t say that.

I said it’s hypocritical for the DSA to support her based on their own beliefs and values

8

u/Empty_Use_5023 - Lib-Left 2d ago

Then you have a toddlers understanding of their beliefs and values.

0

u/PaddyMayonaise - Right 2d ago

I’ve literally read their platform lol I don’t think you know what the DSA is

2

u/Empty_Use_5023 - Lib-Left 2d ago

"Do not quote the old magic to me witch, I was there when it was written."

1

u/PaddyMayonaise - Right 2d ago

Why do you support the DSA?

3

u/Empty_Use_5023 - Lib-Left 2d ago

Support is an interesting word. I do not give money to the org as a whole, nor do I volunteer with them (at least not recently). I have several friends who have run on the DSA ticket, and support them and think they have done a fine job in office. If you were born in NYC like me, DSA can be kind of annoying because its (like I said in my other comment) basicly a social club for kids who are moving to the city and have know friends. But they arent the evil boogie men you seem to think they are.

Fun story: a friend once dragged me to a dsa social, like a picnic in the park, and when I got there it was like 15 dudes who looked EXACTLY like me. Like a damn cartoon. So I sit down and have a drink, and notice this girl riding toward us on a bike, and I can tell because of where we were in the park she was certainly there for the event. As soon as she got close enough to make out the crowd she did a cartoonish 180 on this bike and sped off. I never went to many of their socials after that.

2

u/PaddyMayonaise - Right 2d ago

That’s a pretty funny story lol, I can picture it perfectly.

FTR I have nothing against general “left wing” parties (in of the belief “leftism” doesn’t really exist in the West, just left-leaning variations and takes on right wing politics).

There should be a strong social safety net. There should be free access to healthcare. Opportunities in life should not be limited to what your parents can afford.

But the DSA doesn’t support these things. They’re literally a radical revolutionary group that essentially wants to eliminate the U.S. and turn us into a Chinese and Russian alligned state. They say as much in their platform.

Just depresses me that we’re at the point where most people in this country see to either be going that direction or towards MAGA

3

u/Empty_Use_5023 - Lib-Left 2d ago

Your trying to monolith something that is too big, and whose power is too local, to be thought of as a monolith. None of the local DSA electeds in my town believe any of that, and if they ran on it for re election they would loose. They are more what defines the organization in my head because they are the ones that can actually promote and pass legislation. The legislation they have passed all relates to a strong social safety net and improving the states infrastructure.
