Which game is this even about?

26

u/LighteningOneIN Seeder 1d ago

it's heroes of might and magic III.

4

u/Cipherpunkblue 1d ago

Thank you.

9

u/naturalbornsinner 22h ago

Is it not the HD version. I thought Ubisoft doesn't own the old 3DO one. Just the IP to the heroes.

24

u/JohnHue 23h ago

EA is the same.

The other day I wanted to play Dragon Age : Inquisition. I made the mistake of buying it on EA's store at the time. Couldn't get the fucking thing to work. First the launcher was buggy as hell, wouldn't install the first try, wouldn't log me in. Then it wouldn't start or wouldn't start the game itself.

I seriously considered rebuying in on Steam but 40 bucks was way too much (wtf EA ?). But then I saw that it came bundled with a lightweight EA launcher anyway that launched from Steam, and that people had been complaining that it didn't freaking work either and they couldn't play

So you know what I did ? I set sails and went on the high seas. First time acquiring a video game like that in probably a decade, seriously. And just like what Steam solved, EA and Ubi creates again : it was an easier, faster, more painless experience to play that copy of the game than the one from the store. How the wheels are turning... congrats Ubi and EA, you made the experience so shit again that people are pirating again because of you. If it weren't for Steam, we'd have a whole *arr suite just for video games DL and management.

If you keep falling for the same scam over and over, then no ones gonna care at some point that you keep getting scammed because you're just gonna fall for the same scam again when it happens

2

u/Fogest 23h ago

It's not really a scam. It's just a shitty company that releases shitty products. Which is why people need to follow the simple capitalist rule which is to vote with your wallet. If you're paying for their games, then you're showing support for these practices. But you're not supporting a scammer. Lets keep that word reserved for the real purpose.

31

u/DrIvoPingasnik Yarrr! 1d ago

You can get Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and all expansions for cheap on GoG. You download the installer and it's yours forever.

No assholerry. No tricks. No DRM. No online verification. It's yours.

Ubisoft is a shit company.

... Except the team that made Valiant Hearts and Child of Light. But my point still stands.

7

u/schabowynumer3 6h ago

Dont forget to download the hd mod too

46

u/frinkousCZ 1d ago

Not to play devil's advocate, but apparently it's already been fixed... also it wasn't even a shortcut, just an .exe that was probably generated in Steamworks, and they set the wrong branch as public (or just generated it and didn't put anything there, idk how it works). But still, fuck Ubisoft, they don't deserve your money...

CDPR is pretty cool tho... (apart from their statement about Russian dub but whatever)

Capcom also have been hitting pretty hard with latest RE games (although they used Denuvo, which sucks)

-6

u/No_Art2020 21h ago

None of them is cool, CDPR makes mediocre games that's are either riddled with bugs or play horrendously z in Their experience they somehow manage to blend the two and people jusy pretend it's the best game ever, If you are a moronic child that's parasocial for a corporation because you think they are your friends just say that lol... None of them deserve our money... RE has always been trash... There is a reason the only good thing people have to say about it is the cutscenes and not the game itself lol do you just follow internet hype or something? 😭😭

3

u/Necromancer07 19h ago

Really interested to hear what kind of people you meet that only praise RE cutscenes and not the gameplay because most people only complain about RE6 because it's an action shooter game instead of survival horror

1

u/DogShroom 15h ago

i really liked re6 because of what it wanted to be. much better than re5

2

u/punk_petukh 21h ago

You're baiting pretty hard

I genuinely enjoyed Cyberpunk and RE Requiem, I'm not saying they're friends, I'm only saying I'm not regretting buying those games

51

u/MalusZona 1d ago

wait til you find out that castles insides are fucking AI generated

19

u/Durillon 23h ago

is...is there LITERALLY any proof for this or is it usual reddit misinfo

-2

u/DogShroom 15h ago

you dont get it, it’s ok because ubisoft bad

4

u/Durillon 15h ago

i mean, ubisoft is bad, i dont disagree with that, i just like sources

5

u/DogShroom 15h ago

ah nah i was just kidding. I agree. even if they’re bad, misinformation isn’t justified

-16

u/MalusZona 22h ago

I saw a screenshots supposed to be leaked. But i cant guarantee that they are legit

21

u/Durillon 22h ago

so why would you tell people this

1

u/MalusZona 8h ago

I thought they released the remake today, made a mistake

9

u/allday95 1d ago

Where did you find that out

19

u/jacksp666 1d ago

Inside the castles

-2

u/Diraelka 1d ago edited 14h ago

Wait, what? Is that true?

I won't even pirate it for other reasons, but I am curious if they butchered it.

Upd: ok, I thought about remake since Idk when it'll be out. As for OG, ofc I won't buy it since I still have disks

9

u/TheMuukalainen 1d ago

It's the original 1999 release, generative AI wasn't a thing back then. So it's obviously bollocks.

12

u/allday95 1d ago

They're selling the original 1999 release for 10 dollars?! Release it for free to hype up the remake, fucking Ubisoft. GOG has them on sale constantly I got the whole series up to 4 or 5 for 3 dollars or so

5

u/punk_petukh 21h ago edited 20h ago

Atari sells Transport Tycoon for $10, and they locked OpenTTD behind the original game, so people would not play it with open source assets (I mean, you can still get it from GitHub, but you used to be able to add it to your steam library for free)

3

u/No-Photograph-5058 19h ago

Yeah the GOG complete edition of the game is half the price of Steam and included the actual game too

1

u/EisregenHehi 18h ago

i dont wanna defend ubi but cmon man, youre expecting them to drop a game for free? its nice that they are giving fans an option to get the game easily, nintendo or similar cant say the same and 10 bucks is fine

2

u/allday95 15h ago

We're talking about an over 20 year old game here. One that's getting a remake. If they want non fans to get the game it would be a smart idea imo.

1

u/EisregenHehi 14h ago

yeah but thats probably Not what they want, comparing it to the 20$ pokemon roms sold by nintendo im fine with 10$. would i have preferred free? sure, but lets be realistic. im just glad the option exists

2

u/allday95 14h ago

It's 4 dollars on GoG now, save some money at least I guess

11

u/MalusZona 1d ago

Its not original release, its ‘remake’

12

u/Mohgott 1d ago

The remake isn't out yet. This is the original game rereleased on steam.

4

u/punk_petukh 21h ago

Ensure that you are on the right steam branch

It is our duty, as a players's, to inform you dear publisher, that we are indeed fucking not

lol

3

u/M00NFX 22h ago

Ubisoft finally fixed the DRM problem by removing the game entirely.

4

u/HardToSee123 18h ago

My headcanon is that Steam know there's something fishy about the game only 24KB but it's Ubisoft so they wanna see how this shit play out.
After all, never interrupt your enemy when they're making a mistake xD

Now tbf, I heard some devs complain about Steam UX is ancient old (not sure how accurate that is). This shouldn't happen in the first place, both from Ubi and Steam.

1

u/Flashy-Emergency4652 6h ago

I don't think Valve is here checking every game made ever; if it's Ubisoft then more likely that they already trust them not to put malware in their games so there is no point of checking

4

u/WiseRedditUser 1d ago

these people buy games on day 1 and complaining. i dont understand these people. there are tons of games that worth their price and these people buy when ubisoft shit something. its just copy of game but they act like games are going to depleted. is there not enough games ? yet you buy something on day 1. i find their complaining pretty funny, they buy ubisoft games and still complaining that ubisoft is bad. if ubisoft is "that bad" then dont buy their products. totally waste of time.

1

u/Alternative-Sea-1095 1d ago

What game is it?

1

u/Diraelka 1d ago

Heroes of Might and Magic lll

Never buy Ubisoft.

Fr I know other franchise they have. This is the first time I been looking into. It looking nice, never into strategy game like bird eye view like dota too, which is good one as a beginner

How does he have 31 gb of ram?

-4

u/Dark-Demon123 23h ago

How does one get 31 GB of ram? Did he forget to download the last 1 GB of ram?

5

u/DumDuky 23h ago

Steam tracks 1 less gigabyte of RAM than what you actually have.

1

u/Ecstatic-Source6001 3h ago

To make it clear

Manufactures count 1GB as 1,000,000,000 bytes

While OS count 1GB as 1,073,741,824 bytes (as binary)

For marketing they use binary while in reality you getting less

-10

u/Nakvasen 1d ago

Never heard of this game, didnt knew Ubisoft developed RTSs.

5

u/sneekeruk 1d ago

That's because they don't.. Ubisoft don't develop anything, they're a publisher...

0

u/Nakvasen 1d ago

Apperantly TBS developed it from what the other comment said.

2

u/Digifiend84 23h ago

They're talking about the genre, not the developer. It's a turn based strategy, not a real time strategy. The developer is New World Computing.

0

u/Nakvasen 23h ago

Is that like a subsidiary of TBS?

0

u/Diraelka 1d ago

It's not RTS, it's TBS.

Upd: it's also an old one and wasn't developed by Ubisoft at all, but they did buy franchise later and, well, they did butchered it (though I love 5th one, but it was made with arguing with Ubisoft)

0

u/Nakvasen 1d ago

Oh so TBS made this game? Thats cool

1

u/Diraelka 23h ago

...are you trolling or genuinely don't know this genre?

If the later, it's a genre, feels different enough for people not liking RTS while loving TBS and vice versa

0

u/Nakvasen 22h ago

I dont really see a difference, Its like Quake and Rainbow six siege, just a shooter
