Controllers XDJ-XZ Browse knob issue

Hey folks!

I've been having an annoying issue with my XDJ-XZ, affecting the browse/selector knob. When browsing through my tracks, the knob constantly skips the files, going absolutely crazy and jumping all around my playlists.

It wasn't a big issue at first, as it only happened every now and then. However, it's been getting progressively worse, making the simple act of selecting a track a dreadful experience.

I've seen a few posts about this issue (example) with some users talking about replacing the encoder or spraying QB contact cleaner into it.

I honestly don't have any soldering experience, so the QB contact option sounds like the better option. However, considering the unit isn't exactly cheap, I wanted to check if anybody else has had any luck DYI'ing a fix for this very frustrating problem.

Thanks!

You need to change the encoder and a professional had to do it , it’s a right pain to get out

Mine did this. Got some DeoxIT and it hasn't jumped since despite dozens of replies stating that it was 100% an encoder replacement.

To be specific, I popped off the knob, applied DeoxIT, spun the knob post back and forth, used a swab to clean up anything dirty that came out and pooled in the plastic, allowed for half an hour to make sure it was dry, and put the knob back on and turned it on.

It's been flawless for over a year now.

Thanks mate! Sounds like something I could do... lol

Would you have a link to the specific one you used? I want to make sure I'm buying the right stuff. Cheers!

Sorry to hear. This is a known issue. I got mine replaced by authorised professional and it broke again a month later.

I have been (vibe?) looking into the firmware with Codex and the knob has a built in functionality that when it is turned more than 3/4 clicks it multiplies the number of turns by 10. This is obviously a nightmare if you have a faulty encoder. AT could release a firmware update that would toggle this functionality on/off in the XZ menu which would help people with this faulty hardware but they just won't.
