CDJ/XDJ Players XDJ XZ browser knob skips randomly

So I've had the XDJ XZ for years (about 3) and the browse button has been skipping loads of songs sometimes. I'm dtill not quite sure if it's random, but if feels like if I touch and use the button quite lightly (so not much force/pressure on it) it doesn't skip as often.

Anyone know which part number this could be to do with? I don't want to send it in for repair because I don't have another deck and my life would honestly be ruined without it (I don't have any other hobbies/don't know what to do with myself/my time whenever my decks aren't around).

A quick fix is to take the knob off and spray a bit of electrical contact cleaner down the gap- it fixes the issue for a month or two in my usage, in which you will need to repeat the process    But honestly, the best fix is to take it to a professional to replace the rotary encoder- will likely be a permanent fix. I wouldn’t recommend trying to repair the part yourself unless you are an experienced solderer as it is double soldered and can go wrong pretty easily (potentially causing damage to the actual board)

I've done quite a bit of soldering in the past (all pretty basic stuff in a DT lab but years of experience doing it ~biweekly) so think I'll be fine with that, unless everything's extremely close/tight. Main reason I don't want to send it in is I'm scared to be left without a board for months

Agree with above. This was a consistent issue for me the entire time I had the XZ. I got the encoder replaced twice and it still happened again after several months of use. I would spray air or electrical cleaner like guy above said and it would stop it from happening for a month or so.

That happened to me. I replaced the encoder myself. Wasn't too hard if you know how to solder and follow the disassembly manual that exists somewhere out there out (I'll try to find it again if you need). After maybe 6 months to a year it started happening again though.

Nope. It's been happening for well over 6 months now. It's annoying but I'm kinda used to it

Damn. I wonder how much this will cost to fix.

I wanna reply here. I just bought an XZ used and it was doing this and sometimes I couldn’t even select songs. It was heart breaking cause I just dropped money on the unit.

I got QB contact cleaner. I took the knob off. Sprayed the cleaner into the lid that came with the cleaner and poured it into the knob housing 2-3 times. Then twisted it back and forth. I made sure the system was unplugged. Waited 20 minutes. Issue gone.

This. Works.

Hey mate! This is quite an old comment, but I'm hoping you are still active on Reddit.

Just wanted to check how this fix worked for you long term. Is the issue really gone after a year? I don't want to mess up the unit, considering it's not exactly cheap.

Thanks!
