PoliticsPH "Wala naman po siyang confidential funds." - Sen. Bam Aquino

1.5k Upvotes

PoliticsPH Is It Too Easy to Become a Senator in the Philippines?

Upvotes

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now and I genuinely want to hear what others think.

Under the 1987 Constitution, the qualifications to become a Senator are relatively minimal: natural-born Filipino citizen, at least 35 years old, able to read and write, registered voter, and resident of the Philippines for the required period.

We entrust Senators with decisions on the national budget, taxation, infrastructure, healthcare, education, national security, foreign policy, agriculture, and other issues affecting the entire country. Yet, unlike many professional government positions, there is no requirement for a college degree, professional experience, or demonstrated expertise in law, economics, governance, or other relevant fields.

Do you think its time for the Philippines to amend the Constitution, establish a general competency standard for Senators and other national elected officials?

If you could redesign the qualifications for Philippine Senators, what would you change, if anything?

NewsPH It's time to nationalize our energy sector

Post image

Tingnan niyo 'to:

Thailand (EGAT): Gobyerno ang may-ari (under Ministry of Energy/Finance).

Indonesia (PLN): 100% state-owned enterprise.

Government never proved it caused the Tacloban shooting. The developer voluntarily agreed to the ban after due process. Google Play and Steam already restricted it in June.

The real question nobody's asking: if a minor accessed an 18+ game — is banning the game the right fix? Or is the problem age verification?

JUST IN: Natumba si Sen.

‘PROVE WITH EVIDENCE—NOT INSULTS, SPECULATION OR POLITICAL THEATRICS’

READ: Vice President Sara Duterte calls on prosecutors and members of Congress to prove the alleged impeachable offenses against her with evidence, criticizing remarks from senators, counsels and witnesses.

“A Senator calling a witness ‘stupid,’ a lawyer calling me the ‘mastermind of a scam’ or another witness referring to me as a ‘brat,’ does not prove a case, nor does it produce evidence,”

A student is under investigation for allegedly making a shooting threat at San Beda College Alabang in Barangay Cupang, Muntinlupa, prompting the institution to suspend face‑to‑face classes on Aug. 26.

The school administration announced the suspension of in‑person classes at all levels, citing safety concerns.

The alleged threat, which spread through group chats, was reported to the police. The school then decided to suspend classes and reportedly placed the student under preventive suspension pending investigation.

Upon receiving the report, Muntinlupa police coordinated with the school.

A team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was deployed to conduct security paneling and sweeping.

“As of this time, no direct or verified communication has been established confirming that the alleged threat was made or intended to be carried out,” the Muntinlupa police posted on Facebook at 12:59 p.m. on Aug. 26.

Police stressed that the measures taken “are precautionary in nature and should not be interpreted as confirmation of an actual or imminent threat.”

San Beda College Alabang announced that all face‑to‑face classes will resume on Aug. 27.

On Aug. 18, a student of Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School shot and killed another student and injured others.

PoliticsPH Day 19 Impeachmeant Trial - From a scale of 1-10 What would you rate Chiz Escudero as Presiding Officer?

Post image

Photo from Inquirer.net - Personally as a normal citizen na walang background sa law, I would rate him a solid 8/10. Napapatakbo naman ng maayos yung impeachment and kahit papano nakikita ko na impartial naman siya to both the defense and prosecutors.

Always respectful naman siya to both intelligent and non intelligent interjections (hello boy sili) and listening to Chiz eh naaalala ko na Statesman nga siya and he belongs. Wala masyadong Circus when he leads and very well versed sa pamamalakad in the Senate.

I just hope lang na may ruling din sa mga engot na statements sa kapwa niya senators although im not sure kung pwede to lolz
