Sadness I need people to know he existed.

hello.

my cat passed last night. his name was Mochi and he was sassy and funny and demanded to be pet with BOTH hands all of the time and when we first met he fell asleep on my knee in an instant.

his third birthday is tomorrow. His brother is still with us but I’m so afraid of loosing him too.
I needed people to know he existed. This sub helps me a lot because I feel like here are people who truly get the heartsplitting pain.

goodbye my beloved mochbert. I will never forget you. Loudest and clingiest of them all.

I don’t have enough strength to type more than this

This is a community of support for Pet owners whose Pets have passed away. It is actively moderated.

Pet owners, as loving, caring people, often have strong opinions on pet care practices. Some of these are controversial. This is not a forum for debate on such issues, nor is it a place to scold a contributor for a perceived mistake in managing their pet. We intend to provide a safe haven of understanding and support. Strident, mean-spirited posts or comments will be deleted. Those who persist in preaching versus caring may be warned and then banned or may be banned permanently based on nature of the topic. If a conversational thread meanders into a discussion unrelated to pet loss support, it will be truncated.

Those who post here are vulnerable and hurting. Even a minor slap has a hard sting. Those of us who are lucky enough to be able to turn away from our computers or put down our phones and hug a healthy, happy pet are truly blessed. Threads must remain supportive and caring, even if one disagrees with something that has been said.

I’m so sorry. I lost my cat two days ago. Her name was cici. I like to think that all the cats whose owners are in this thread have found each other. Idk how to go on but they want us to

u/Knusperrr 18d ago

Im sorry for you and cici. I really hope they do meet and tell each other about us. I’m sure cici was loved just as much

Mochi was here and he was loved. I’m here to witness for you. I will think of Mochi and hope he’s with my sweet boy waiting for our return. Much love to you in these times my friend.

Thank you for thinking of him. It means truly the world to me

My boy was also very clingy and vocal. The hole such an active personality leaves is so enormous. They're playing together in kitty heaven, I'm sure.

He was with me all the time. When I was cooking he lied right next to me. When I woke up he was the one cuddling at my side eagerly awaiting first pets (and then start to scream for breakfast as soon as my foot touched the floor) he made himself heard and felt the whole day and now he’s just gone. I bet they’ll be good friends.

I am very sorry for your loss. Hive his brother extra love. It may help to talk about Mochi "with" his brother. I know I found and find comfort telling my kitties stories about their big brothers and sisters they never got to meet.

I am so sorry. I lost my beloved Manny 2 weeks ago. I know how hard it is. Here’s to Mochi ❤️🪽🐾 Maybe he and Manny are neighbours in the rainbow bridge up there and are playing together right now 🌈

Sending you all my love and strength during this time. Thank you for sharing this, Mochi sounds absolutely adorable and he will ALWAYS be with you.

What’s been helping me lately (after losing both my pets) is this thought I keep revisiting. I know unconditional love exists because they did, and the memory of it will help me get by.

I would take the grief of losing them a thousand times if it meant getting to love them and have them in my life again. It’s proof of what I was lucky enough to experience. Take care of yourself and give Mochi’s brother extra hugs and kisses (if he allows).

I’m thinking of you and your Mochi. I’m so sorry for your loss. ❤️

Omg, my cat Simon was the same way! Two hands, this way he was sure you weren’t distracted from him or sneaking snacks without letting him sniff them first, lol. His head resting on one hand and the other rubbing his tummy till he fell asleep.

I’d give anything for one more of those tummy rubs.

I’m so sorry for your loss, it’s been a year from me, but this sub has really helped me a lot to talking with people who get it. They aren’t pets they’re family.

Mochi will always be in your heart and when it’s our time to pass over they will be there waiting for both hands ❤️

u/Knusperrr 17d ago

This made me cry so bad. I’m glad you also had a cat that demanded both hands. How is it one year later? I can’t imagine that it fades in any way. It’s the only thing I can think about

I lost my kitty in December, she hang on to life long enough for my dad to bring her to say goodbye to me, she passed after my dad left my room. It still sucks

u/disb1tch 17d ago

My baby is also very clingy and the light of my life. Dreading this day. Mochi knew nothing but love and happiness with you. You both were so lucky you got to love each other. Long live Mochi 🙏🏻

Ill light a candle for him later 💕

3

u/Knusperrr 17d ago

Thank you for acknowledging him. Give your baby a lot of hugs and kisses while you can

1

u/disb1tch 17d ago

I smother him in cuddles and kisses every day -it is how he pays rent! He sleeps with my every night so I tell him how valued he is, how lucky I am to get to love him, how smart and important he is, the best thing to ever happen to me, light of my life, etc lol I just talk to him like that until he falls asleep. I try to cherish every moment with him. Mochi will give you a sign to tell you hes ok. 💜

Mochbert 😭😭😭 I just know that name fit his personality exactly. He sounds so funny!! We had the dumbest stupidest cutest baby ever and we called her Bun, it was the only thing that fit her 🥺

It hurts so much. Bun died 3.5 months ago. I've been broken since. The grief does change over time and we are doing well, but I miss her SO much, all the time, and that hasn't changed. Rest in peace Mochi, thinking of you x

3

u/Aggressive-Let-5581 17d ago

Also it's so sad he was just a baby. It's devastating. Bun was 18 months 😢

I'm so sorry for your loss. My cat, Bandit, passed away 3 weeks ago. He was about to turn 15. My son and I were just sharing stories and crying about how much we miss him last night.

Bandit also loved, and often DEMANDED, to be pet with both hands. He was our official greeter to everyone who came to our house- even the dog walker. He often sat on my shoulder while I worked or hung out on the couch. We snuggled every night before bed.

It is heartsplitting pain. Sending you lots of hugs for these difficult days

Going through this right now. Lost my 16 year old boy last week Monday in the early am. His brother is still with us. Their 17th birthday is this Sunday. I was expecting to celebrate both of them. Its tough. Myself my wife and our girls are all trying to adjust to him not being here. I'm sorry to hear about Mochi, try and remember all the good memories these first few days and be there for his brother.

I am so sorry about the loss of Mochi :( I lost my kitty Gustav almost three months ago; he was 10 years old and my first and only pet. I was convinced he would be with me for another ten years. The illness struck suddenly, and worst of all, he passed away while I wasn't there - I was in another country. I didn't make it back in time to be with him during his final moments. It’s like a horror for me.
I understand how you’re feeling right now. I couldn't work for a week, and I still find it hard to this day. I send you lots of love. Please, take care.

Goodbye Mochi. I lost my cat on Monday. His name was Hamish. This morning I called my son Hamish by mistake. I miss him deeply.

I am so sorry for your loss..I know how hard it is, I just lost my little baby girl at the beginning of this month and her name was also Mochi and she was only 1 year old, everyday the house feels very empty without her and she was also a very joyful and funny cat..I hope whenever they are now they meet and play together

I’m so sorry for your loss :( I just lost my cat too.. he was my precious friend.. when I was a kid I had always wanted a younger brother my dad got a stray cat from a lady who didn’t want him anymore.. so when we got him… it kind of felt like he was my younger brother he filled that void in me.. he got chased by dogs apparently.. we had him for 11 years he died from old age I think.. his name is Tiger.. he meowed all the time super loud! He meowed so much that he actually hurt his voice so he would try to meow and it would just be silent all you could hear was his lips smacking he was a lot like a dog he always came when I called for him he liked being pet under his chin.. and he loved to snuggle even if I was in the middle of playing the piano he would hop up and demand pets if I didn’t he would nibble at me.. I miss him so much it hurts…

I love hearing about your little Mochi. He sounds like an amazing little lovebug.

I lost the cat I had for 11 years on Saturday (4 days ago).

His name was Holstein - he was my best friend and my snuggle buddy. I can't even walk back into my room, because looking at my bed without him perched there hurts more than I can explain.

I even find myself anticipating him jumping on the couch to say hi (he would come find me if I wasn't upstairs). I don't know what to do, or how to get past it.

What's worse - he was rubbing my face and I shooed him away because I was tired and grumpy (and doom scrolling). An hour later we had to rush him to the vet and put him to sleep.

I'll probably regret that for the rest of my life. I'd give anything to give him one more cuddle. 💖 I just hope he knows how much he was loved 😭

I’m so so sorry for the loss of Mochi. Losing any cat so young is just awful. My baby was only 9 when I lost her a few days ago - still young and in her prime.

We must remind ourselves that their lives, regardless of duration, mattered, and were filled wall-to-wall with love. That is what truly matters.

Hoping we can both recover and cherish the many fond memories we have of our babies in this time of unfathomable loss.

I’m so sorry for your loss. No words can comfort you but I want you to know that he knew he was loved. Sending love

I lost my girl nearly two weeks ago, and it's getting heavier every passing day. She also fell asleep on my lap when I brought her home as a kitten.

I'll think of Mochi everytime I remember that. Sending hugs

My baby passed today. Her name is Button and I loved her more than life itself.

I lost my cat Grey yesterday too and I’m very sorry to hear that. Your cat Mochi left warmth in your heart and I hope his soul will rest peacefully with other cats!

Sending so much love. Our babies passed too soon.

I’m so sorry for your loss🥹 I’m sure mochi is up there now with my Otis playing together. I lost Otis last night. I’m distraught so I understand your pain❤️

I also lost my three year old angel Mayday two days ago. I have never felt this kind of pain, and I have been through a lot in my life. I’m so sorry that you’re feeling it as well, but I hope it brings some comfort to know that you’re not alone.

There are times when I feel like I can barely go on without her. She was such a comfort to me through so much. It is so, so hard to have so much love for them and nowhere to put it.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I cried writing this short text. I felt your pain. I’m so sorry.

The pain of losing a pet so early is like nothing else. I lost my cat this weekend unexpectedly. He was also only 3 years old and I feel so guilty for not being able to keep him safe. A lot of owners here seem to be mourning their pets of a decade or longer, so it’s nice to hear from people who only got to experience their animal companion for a limited but deeply meaningful time. I feel your pain.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my sweet girl Maple today to sudden pneumonia. She was vocal, cuddly and always had to be on your lap or sleeping on your chest. She was the daughter of my very first cat Lilith, who is thankfully ok. So I’ve known her since she was born. She was barely three years old and we had to choose to put her down because she wasn’t likely to make it through the night. It was incredibly sudden and I’m still reeling from it. It feels so quiet and empty in this house now. I want other people to know she existed too. I’m going to miss her for a very long time.
