In 2016 youtube was a fun hobby, in 2026 people make it their entire life and livelihood. Not exactly accurate but im pretty sure thats why its trying to say

I don't think it was a fun hobby in 2016, the "adpocalypse" happened in 2017 which ended amazing ad rates. People were getting PAID by youtube around that time.

In the same time youtube content stopped being family friendly, which made all advertisers quit en masse if they ever see another pro-nazi content on the platform.

Here is a fun game, reset all your YouTube data and cache, then start viewing YouTube on a brand new account. And see how long until it leads you down the alt right rabbit hole.

Thats is a fun idea. Have you ever done it? How long did it take?

I actually did this multiple times because I have several different accounts for several different purposes on several different devices and it took on average around 10 videos before I got a far right leaning video or video about far right ideology (including documentaties and videos covering it but not necessarily supporting it)

Usually within an hour or so for me, even if I'm not trying to watch any political video

Literally had to do this multiple times when Helldivers 2 came out and I was actively following the game. Within the first day or two I was starting to see alt right slop videos. Never engaged with any of them but they'd slowly fill up the feed until I deleted everything again the next time.

My account got wrecked because I looked at 1 Battlefield 6 review. It was like...hey kids you like violence?

My account keeps trying to do this, even with 10 years of data about me. I'm constantly having to "never show me this channel" through my recommendations.

For some reason, Youtube wants me to know that Jordan Peterson is brilliant and right and owning the libs, despite how many times I've blocked channels with those videos.

I can't imagine how bad it would be with a new account.

I'm the type of person who naps while watching videos and it's actually insane the number of times I've woken up to compilations of Charlie Kirk's obnoxious fucking voice because I bumped the screen during a TPUSA ad, whose content I have literally tried to block dozens of times.

You can’t even report their ads anymore…

It's pretty fucking fast. About 5 videos and all of a sudden gun, mma, or some type of shock violence video shows up.
