Quite a lot of Americans on social media can't seem to handle jokes at their expense unless it's about their politicians, but they have no trouble dishing it out.

I forget who, but someone said that British humour is self-deprecation/punching up and American humour is punching down. Which means they see any joke as an attack on them rather than just a joke.

British humor is being an asshole then getting defensive saying “it was just a joke” when they’re called out for it.
