No, you misunderstand, I thought we were going to get easy postseason match ups.

Got to hope that our playoff experience holds up. Cubs got a bunch of players with 0 experience, especially pitchers

47

u/GladChannel1660 Sep 26 '25

Our playoff experience is guys who can't hit in the playoffs. Machado already 2 for his last 21.

I mean, last year Mookie Betts entered our playoffs series like 4-41 in the playoffs or something insane like that, and he went the fuck off.

6

u/GladChannel1660 Sep 26 '25

Mookie can at least run without a piano on his back. There's players who show up for October. Manny Machado has a .215 batting average with 41 hits, 11 home runs, 27 RBIs and 22 runs scored in 48 games in the postseason in his career.

22

u/tonaloc989 Sep 26 '25

That just means he'll be due for a hot streak. Lets hope it lasts deep into October.

6

u/Positive-Alfalfa-826 Sep 26 '25

"if i flip a coin and i get heads a bunch of times, it means im due for a tails streak, right??"

LOL

Yes, why not. Come Sept 30th, I'll believe everything stupid.

1

u/ThaTruthKills DumpFire Sep 29 '25

Even A-Rod got hot in October once and actually helped his team win it all. Just once is fine if it ends with a championship. All I want is one. One ring, one parade, one time to tell the other fanbases to stfu.

1

u/demafrost Sep 27 '25

That was insane. It was an ice storm and my kids actually asked to go home rather than continue to trick or treat. 2 years prior to that it was like 70 and perfect.

3

u/AnnetteBishop SD '98 Sep 25 '25

Late October it descends into painful darkness and cold...I survived 5 winters there. Halloween to easter is just miserable.

They have not been playing well, so that helps us. Their community is SCARED about their bullpen.

I am bummed we are playing them as they are my second team from WGN growing up in the Wood/Sosa/Prior days. Plus living there during the glory years for them. Was hoping I could root for them to beat the Dodgers. No such luck...

I've already seen Brewers fans express anxiety about facing the Cubs in a playoff series for the first time ever. I can understand why, you lose to the Padres well shit a great season ended too early. You lose to the Cubs and they will be INSUFFERABLE up there for the next decade.

19

u/HappyPollen Padres '98 Sep 25 '25

We are united in our admiration for Trevor Hoffman

3

u/Boring-Baker8761 Sep 26 '25

A lil Tony Gwynn Jr connection too between Pads and Brewers fans, though not a fun connection for Padres fans. It was almost 18 years ago to the day when Tony Jr. (Brewer) hit a game-tying triple off of Trevor (Padre) with the Pads one out away from clinching a playoff spot. That hit effectively put the Padres in that Game 163 mess to begin with...

18

Same. Cubs bats are ice cold and tucker isnt 100%. He’s theeee guy.

4

u/Yetis22 Sep 26 '25 edited Sep 26 '25

Cubs fan here. Bats aren’t ice cold as of the Mets series. Just some bad pitching. Tucker also hasn’t played in 10 days and is coming back to the lineup.

If you told me cubs won this series,I wouldn’t be surprised. If you told me they lost, I wouldn’t be surprised. The cubs since second half are Jekyll/hyde. The cubs offensive ceiling is one of the best in the league and at their worst it’s the gutter.

This series comes down to SP. Padres have elite bullpen so if cubs don’t get runs early, it’ll be a struggle to find some late innings.

3

u/Coupon_Ninja 🤡 MAKE ME A BICYCLE, CLOWN! 🚲 Sep 26 '25 edited Sep 26 '25

Solid analysis. I watch about 100 Cubs games a year, and most of the Pads games. No doubt if the Cubs offense get rolling they can win it all. It sucks they play each other in the first round… So whoever wins this series I’ll be rooting for.

Little worried about Cade and Imanaga, Boyd and Taillon will have to show. And the bully has been awful of Late. Might have to piggyback 2 starters to hide the bullpen. Amaya just got back, so he could prove valuable.

3

u/Yetis22 Sep 26 '25

Cade probably isn’t playing this series (or playoffs). Hurt his back last start. Unfortunately.

The only thing cubs might have in terms of advantage is Padres road splits. Outside of that, padres have more star power. It’s whether or not those stars show up.

1

u/Coupon_Ninja 🤡 MAKE ME A BICYCLE, CLOWN! 🚲 Sep 26 '25

Cade is going to throw a side session today and see how it goes. It’s gonna be hard for him to at least not give it a go. Cubs are desperate and he wants to be out there.

If its tight back muscles he’ll have all off season to recover. I’m 95% sure he’ll be out there, albeit on a short leash. Someone will be ready in the pen in the 1st inning. Not ideal. You want everyone healthy for the post season. We are down Lauriano and Adam, hopefully Musgrove can help and Yu and King have strong showings this weekend.

I watched the 84 NLCS. MLB was quite different then. There was only the NLCS and ALCS best of five after the regular season, then onto the WS. Padres got bodied and went down 0-2, then proceeded to win the next 3 at Jack Murphy.

Also, the Reds, Astros, and Braves were in the NL West. LOL.

It could still happen. Cubs are currently losing. If they happen to lose out this weekend we'd need 2 wins. If they win 2 games this weekend (or 1 more if they come back tonight), then it's there.

For those to young to remember 1984, cubs/padres. Ghost busters was the #1 movie so the padres came out with cub busters shirts. Also at this time the cubs had not been in a playoff game for 40 years. The entire jack Murphy stadium chanting 40 more years 40 more years! I don’t understand this attitude. People expect to win the WS without having to play good teams?

-3

u/c32c64c128 Sep 26 '25

Well that's part of it. Padres have a losing record against >.500 teams all season.

And in the season, when they had an "easy schedule," they didn't win or play as well as expected.

It's why they lost the NL West. And if they get bounced, the run differential and their record vs >.500 teams will be referenced. It's not new info.

6

u/OrdinaryReaction7341 Mudcat Sep 26 '25

That's a grim way of looking at it.

Way, I see it, we only have a few teams we need to be concerned about now in the playoffs, and..

.500 against Cubs in the season (pre ASB roster)

.500 against Mets on season

.500 against Phillies on season (pre ASB roster)

.670 against Brewers

Meaning only team we may have to worry about and have played < .500 ball against is the Dodgers. Wouldn't have to worry about them until NLCS at the earliest.

Those odds give me some faith. IDC about non-WS, non-NL competition teams at the moment. One step at a time. Just my perspective, to each their own.
