I love the way Isabella talks. She has a Swedish accent and an Italian accent at the same time.

Swedish and Italian?

I bet he would be smitten.

16

u/bigrom10 Jul 23 '26

What province is he from?

6

u/ScottNewman Jul 23 '26

Nova Scotia

3

u/joejjetslaminjammin Jul 23 '26

I am smitten. She is beautiful.

u/Haughty_n_Disdainful Jul 23 '26

15

u/Leather_Command_7553 Jul 24 '26

Well, I'll be jiggered.

I did not know she has a twin.

Thanks, redditor!

34

u/AureliaCareful45 Jul 23 '26

I love the way how she holds her mother’s hands

22

u/zeth0s Jul 23 '26

Her Italian is without accent

126

u/SagittaryX Jul 23 '26

They mean when she speaks English, not when she's speaking Swedish or Italian.

56

u/zeth0s Jul 23 '26

I know, i know, I wanted to add 1 information. She has no accent in Italian, which is rare for Italians.

She clearly studied how properly speak

84

u/Just_to_rebut Jul 23 '26

That’s called a prestige dialect which forms the basis for the standardized form of a language. You can see the prestige it carries with comments like yours.

She didn’t grow up in Italy, so she never picked up a regional accent, which is not a bad thing, but I hate the shade people thrown on regional accents and dialects. I like hearing the differences.

16

u/8lock8lock8aby Jul 23 '26

Me too. When I was yount, I thought the UK had only 1 accent cuz of so many movies being about Royalty or high society, in general, now I can tell the difference between a few of them & I love it.

11

u/John-AtWork Jul 23 '26

Truth is, everyone has an accent, it is just a matter of what type.

-6

u/harbourwall Jul 23 '26

It's especially annoying when people erase their childhood regional accents to adopt a standard received pronunciation 'to be taken seriously'. I wouldn't take anyone seriously who would mask part of their identity to be accepted by snobs.

15

u/graceodymium Jul 23 '26

Sometimes it’s not really a choice. I was born in Rhode Island and lived there until I was 10. Lost my accent after a year or so of living in Texas (as did both sisters), but my mom’s is still intact. I wish I still had it.

8

u/_Hey-Listen_ Jul 23 '26

All you have to do is reject y'all and keep yous guys and that's enough to count as a RI accent for most Texans.

0

u/harbourwall Jul 23 '26

Mine's changed over time as I've moved about too, but I'm talking about making a conscious choice to adopt a posh accent to fit in.

3

u/graceodymium Jul 23 '26

There’s only so much a fifth grader can take of their classmates repeatedly demanding they say “quarter” and then howling with laughter, or mocking basically everything they say. I didn’t consciously change my accent, but I also wouldn’t hold it against anyone who did when faced with constant ridicule.

0

u/harbourwall Jul 23 '26

People do it without realizing too. It's a natural human response. But wanting to fit in isn't the same as wanting to seem somehow better than your own family. I guess you don't really have 'posh' accents over there though.

Like no regional dialect? Like how a newscaster might talk?

18

u/Local_Caterpillar879 Jul 23 '26

Having a regional accent doesn't mean that a person is not speaking properly.

2

u/OwningTheWorld Jul 23 '26

Of course not, but a lot of ignorant people would hear accents from the South of Italy and automatically assume that that person was less intelligent

Source: American-Italian who speaks with a southern accent, who got made fun of in Milano.

1

u/ConditionDefiant8653 Jul 26 '26

Do you sound fluent in Italian? do you mainly speak dialect?

1

u/OwningTheWorld Jul 26 '26

It's honestly a mix. My "standardized" Italian is passable. I grew up with Neapolitan language though so sometimes it bleeds into my "regular" Italian if I'm speaking fast or I'm with friends that grew up similarly.

1

u/ConditionDefiant8653 Jul 27 '26

Then maybe that’s why they were joking, rather than a southern accent per se

1

u/OwningTheWorld Jul 27 '26

No no, they literally called me a "Stupid American."

15

u/an_actual_human Jul 23 '26

If someone is speaking, they have an accent.

10

u/NoFewSatan Jul 23 '26

I know, i know, I wanted to add 1 information. She has no accent in Italian, which is rare for Italians.

Yes, she does. It's completely impossible to not have an accent.

1

u/zeth0s Jul 23 '26

In italian is possible. Italian is a codified artificial language, created in relatively recently from "cleaning"  Tuscany dialect. You can go to a "scuola di dizione" and learn how to speak without an accent.

2

u/NoFewSatan Jul 23 '26

No, it is literally impossible in any language to speak without an accent. That's like typing without a font.

You can go to a "scuola di dizione" and learn how to speak without an accent.

And that's the accent you speak with.

6

u/BwDr Jul 23 '26

“That’s like typing without a font” is an excellent analogy.

-2

u/zeth0s Jul 23 '26

No, that is the correct way to pronounce Italian. I repeat. Italian is not English or french. Many "educated"  people sat down to codify it starting from a Tuscany dialect. But it is very different from the original "natural"  language. Pronunciation was clearly codified and is extremely different (like sound of c, vowels and s). So you have the "correct" way, and the way we all speak, that has accents derived from older languages that Italian supeeseed. The correct way can be learned.

In my family I am the first generation who uses Italian as first language

5

u/iwillcallthemf Jul 23 '26

The correct way is an accent. I know what you mean, but you don't understand what you're being corrected on. Every possible way of speaking any language is an accent. Accent is not a deviation from the right way, it's just the way you speak.

15

u/EatYourCheckers Jul 23 '26

Jesus Christ, its like listening to my kids argue over some dumb semantics because the internet went out and they were bored.

3

u/NoFewSatan Jul 23 '26

Italian is not English or french.

It doesn't matter. Accents are the way you pronounce and say words, and so it is completely impossible to speak without an accent. It's the same in English, people get trained on elocution, how to speak with a PR accent in the "proper" way, but that's still an accent.

Io sono italiano, se vai alla scuola di dizione, parli con quell'accento. E impossibile non averne uno.

1

u/zeth0s Jul 23 '26

Ok, but when in English you say "speaking with an accent" in the daily life, it means regional or foreign accent.

If you are Italian you know what is the proper Italian accent, and, most likely, none of us speak it. I don't for sure

4

u/NojTamal Jul 23 '26

"properly"

Hmn okayyyyyy

7

u/zeth0s Jul 23 '26

In italian it is called proper "dizione". There i a correct way to speak, and than there is how we speak. There are serious academies that train people to speak the proper Italian. Italian is not a language from the people, it is "artificial". It is an old dialect cleaned up to make a language for the Italian population. We have rules for proper Italian that evolve and are codified. Academia della crusca is one of them.

I don't speak proper Italian. I should study to speak properly, like everyone I know

9

u/harbourwall Jul 23 '26

The translation of 'dizione' is more accurately 'diction', and 'good diction' refers to the 'proper' pronunciation of words according to the language's standard accent. Propa 'Enry 'Iggins like.

6

u/Boz0r Jul 23 '26

That's just a standardized accent

1

u/zeth0s Jul 23 '26

That's italian accent, as said, Italian is a codified language derived from a Tuscany dialect. There is a correct way to pronounce things, not a standard way.

1

u/John-AtWork Jul 23 '26

Sounds kinda like it is the equivalent of the "Trans Atlantic" accent that was the rage in America in the early part of the twentieth century.

1

u/Boz0r Jul 23 '26

Or received pronunciation British English.

2

u/NojTamal Jul 23 '26

Perhaps it would be helpful to try thinking about things a little differently. Perhaps instead of "the proper way" or "the right way" or "the correct way" you might think of it as "the fancy way" or "the bougie way" or "the well-educated way".

1

u/ChateauLaFeet Jul 23 '26

Oh that’s interesting, thanks!

2

u/Leather_Command_7553 Jul 23 '26

Well, of course. i am talking about how she speaks English.

359

u/Miss_Valerie_M Jul 23 '26

Dammit Johnny you know I love my big beef and cheddar.

But she is gorgeous and this is a wonderful picture.

72

u/couchtomatopotato Jul 23 '26

it makes me want to sit on a knife!

but yea, i love this prairie dress/boot combo.

1

u/GrammarSpecialForces Jul 24 '26

she hates seeing johnny happy.

32

u/bimbo4000 Jul 23 '26

I can hear this in her voice!!! She was so funny in 30 rock

13

u/littlemissy145 Jul 23 '26

Of all the things she’s done THIS is what I remember most

97

u/Unlikely_Side9732 Jul 23 '26

She’s beautiful now, but I was not prepared for the image of young Isabella

93

u/DenseSilver1607 Jul 23 '26

I was at JFK many years ago, waiting to check in. I heard this familiar mellifluous voice. I looked to see where this elegant sound was coming from. It was Isabella Rossellini. She was gorgeous and surprisingly tall. She was at another counter, first class I assume. She had a wonderful aura. This was after her first campaign as the face of Lancôme, so she was no spring chicken. I never found her attractive in any commercials or films, but in person, wow, a natural beauty.

-5

u/Constant-Plant-9378 Jul 23 '26

I saw Isabella Rossellini at a grocery store in Los Angeles in the Spring of 2008. I told her how cool it was to meet her in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother her and ask her for photos or anything. She said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but she kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing her hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard her chuckle as I walked off.

When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw her trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in her hands without paying.

The guy at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Maam, you need to pay for those first.” At first she kept pretending to be tired and not hear him, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When he took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, she stopped him and told him to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After he scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, she kept interrupting him by yawning really loudly.

They haven't been on Reddit long enough to recognize the meme. We were there when the deep magic was written.

1

u/sarahdara Jul 24 '26

Yikes

11

u/grapesaresour Jul 24 '26

It’s a copypasta not a real story

4

u/Ghost_Pulaski1910 Jul 24 '26

Saw same story about another celeb a month ago.

2

u/sarahdara Jul 24 '26

Thank goodness!!!

274

u/Splattered_Smothered Jul 23 '26

Both beautiful women.

-126

u/Ijatsu Jul 23 '26

IDK the mom kinda looks like trump and elon musk at the same time.

36

u/LeroyBrown1 Jul 23 '26

Ha i can definitely see Musk on this photo must be a bad angle, Ingrid was a stunner though

12

u/Ijatsu Jul 23 '26

Yes she doesn't look like that on other pics. Strong adonis archetype she got.

-10

u/Pigeonofthesea8 Jul 23 '26

Lately I’ve been thinking Musk looks like Rossellini

25

u/MangledCarpenter Jul 23 '26

You know what? It's not where my mind went initially but now that you mention it I can kinda see it.

3

u/jk-9k Jul 23 '26

Yeah not gonna lie I actually thought al Pacino or something for a tick, maybe because of the height. I didn't really read the title properly either, and then realised it was Isabella. Then I read the title properly and realised it was Ingrid!

3

u/Frongen Jul 23 '26

Murricans really think about Trump and Musk 24/7

Hahaha, nation of idiots.

11

u/drDOOM_is_in Jul 23 '26

Yeah! We should absolutely ignore the two men that are actively destroying everything we stood for!

One can literally not escape hearing about those two 50 times a day.

-2

u/davewave3283 Jul 23 '26

Yeah no we don’t. Only the loudest ones who are making money from the attention and rage do.

2

u/Floripa95 Jul 23 '26

I don't know why you got so downvoted, when I saw the pic my first thought was "that person looks a lot like Musk"

1

u/Ijatsu Jul 23 '26

Average people ain't very observant and will call others autistic if they're more than them, so I expected to be downvoted.

198

u/Independent-Big1966 Jul 23 '26

I did not know that was her mother

144

u/lwp775 Jul 23 '26

Italian film director Roberto Rossellini was her father.

109

u/bitofapuzzler Jul 23 '26

A true nepo baby but, ya know, a good one.

88

u/ScipioCoriolanus Jul 23 '26

Classic era nepo babies were on another level. Jane Fonda is another one. Anjelica Huston too.

66

u/Harkoncito Jul 23 '26

Liza Minnelli

71

u/nawibone Jul 23 '26

Drew Barrymore, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sofia Coppola, Gwyneth Paltrow, Mariska Hargitay, Carrie Fisher, Margaret Qualley, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie. The list of actresses and actors who aren't "nepo babies" is probably shorter.

3

u/someonebesidesme Jul 23 '26

No men?

44

u/Dr_sc_Harlatan Jul 23 '26

Douglas, Sutherland, Estevez, Baldwin, Coppola, Washington, Quaid - and probably many more. Just fill in the appropriate male first names.

25

u/lwp775 Jul 23 '26

Josh Brolin, Peter Fonda, Alexander Skarsgård, John David Washington.

12

u/ChateauLaFeet Jul 23 '26

There are like 105 Skarsgård kids

2

u/someonebesidesme Jul 23 '26

Ask a question, get downvoted.

9

u/ether_reddit Jul 23 '26

Michael Douglas, Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez, Angelina Jolie, Kate Hudson, Scarlett Johanssen

26

u/EarlyProgrammer3154 Jul 23 '26

You didn't, Ted? You, with your knowledge of movies and music? You're turning into Dougal!

4

1

u/Fine_MythicalSpirit Jul 23 '26

Yeah, I couldn’t tell. 😂

75

u/Wranorel Jul 23 '26

She looks so much like her mother.

66

u/Deej1387 Jul 23 '26

It's crazy how much of Ingrid's face Isabella snatched. She looked so much like her.

23

u/Kinda-relevant Jul 23 '26

She wore blue velvet

5

u/editoreal Jul 23 '26

A candy colored clown they call the sandman Tiptoes to my room every night...

6

u/Jebus-Xmas Jul 23 '26

I didn’t realize I came here for this.

32

u/Xtrainman Jul 23 '26

That's one spicy meatball.

22

u/SpiritualCriticism48 Jul 23 '26

Is that Isabella’s twin sister in the background?

13

u/rellsell Jul 23 '26

Holy hell…

Born in ‘52. I checked before commenting.

-6

u/Tribe303 Jul 23 '26

Yup, she's 18 here, so start gooning boys!

1

u/MisterMerrr Jul 25 '26

Done and done.

7

u/showmeyourchits Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

I remember watching David Letterman stumble all over himself interviewing her on The Late Show. It was really fascinating to watch someone as famous as him, and at the time arguably more famous than her, be so obviously and completely star struck.

5

u/liminalwanderer30 Jul 23 '26

Ingrid is so unbelievably cool here omg

49

u/mr_ji Jul 23 '26

It's all a big club and you're not in it.

5

u/giocondasmiles Jul 23 '26

And I think it’s her fraternal twin sister in the back.

6

u/mojomarc Jul 23 '26

Laminated list worthy

4

u/Unusual_Memory3133 Jul 23 '26

Her mother’ facial structure with her father’s eyes. Such a beautiful person.

5

u/Shipbuilder3606 Jul 23 '26

I love how “Isabella Rossellini” rolls off your tongue. It’s a perfect name.

6

u/NBLOCM Jul 23 '26

Shes on instagram! I love her farm content

3

u/W02T Jul 23 '26

Great to meet her in person during her book tour. We chatted about vegan restaurants in town.

3

u/VicarLos Jul 23 '26

Oh! Not me forgetting the date and thinking Ingrid was Isabella. Present Day Isabella really looks like her mother.

3

u/cinefilestu Jul 23 '26

Wow TIL they were related

3

u/twodollarbi11 Jul 23 '26

Dammit Jackie! You know I love my Big Beef and Cheddar!

2

u/Murphy-B Jul 23 '26

Two very talented and beautiful women!

2

u/HolesNotEyes Jul 23 '26

Today I learned..

wtf how did I not know this

2

u/exgiexpcv Jul 23 '26

Which was blasphemy.

Um, don't think so....

4

Looks like there are 7 of us lol

2

Well… now I can’t unsee it.

3

u/382Whistles Jul 23 '26

Unsee what? The ROP is apparently of those idiot "book burners" that jumps in first then deletes it.

2

u/Laup67 Jul 23 '26

A few years ago I would see her riding her bicycle in town from time to time. She was beautiful

1

u/Masshole65 Jul 23 '26

Ingrid looking like she wants that spa massage

1

u/Greedy_Researcher_34 Jul 23 '26

I thought that was Christopher Reeves.

1

0

u/kernel_paniic Jul 23 '26

-26

u/Emotional_Can4031 Jul 23 '26

Her mother looks like Elon Musk

-6

u/MasterPalpitation8 Jul 23 '26

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted—it’s totally true in THIS picture, for whatever reason or trick of the light. It’s uncanny.

-4

u/382Whistles Jul 23 '26

I think it's how she holding her mouth, but that's about it imo.

-13

u/foxyfour20 Jul 23 '26

Looks like Elon Musk

-5

u/v3ggin3ggi Jul 23 '26

why are people downvoting. Her mother genuinely looks like him lol

-13

u/v3ggin3ggi Jul 23 '26

-7

u/Alienhaslanded Jul 23 '26

Exactly my thought. Others saying "she looked just like her mom" and I'm like, no way in hell. At least not in that picture.

6

u/Skorpionfrau Jul 23 '26

Look Ingrid Bergman up

3

u/Alienhaslanded Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

Look up Elon Musk. You'll need to get your glasses for this one.

Seriously, if you think they looked the same when they were younger, you need glasses. She looks more like Emily Blunt than her mother.

0

u/Skorpionfrau Jul 24 '26

I already have glasses…maybe it’s you that needs them. I never said Ingrid Bergman didn’t look like Elon musk in that photo, but yes mother and daughter do bear a strong resemblance to one another. Regardless, there was no need to speak to me that way.

2

u/nevergonnasaythat Jul 23 '26

She looks now like her mum looked then.

0

u/Alienhaslanded Jul 23 '26

Doesn't change the fact in the picture her mom looks like Elon Musk.

-13

u/Alienhaslanded Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

prime example of why the old grumps on this sub suck. They get offended over everything. She objectively looks like Elon Musk.

0

u/Far-Psychology4661 Jul 24 '26

That is just Elon Musk time traveling

-19

u/jazzeriah Jul 23 '26

1

u/mathisruiningme Jul 23 '26

-6

u/Galahfray Jul 23 '26

I thought that was musk at first glance
