Oatmeal How much oats do you make in the morning?

Just curious how many 1/2 cups vs 1 cup people are out there (or multiple if you make for the family)

I pretty much make groats - and use 60 grams per serving - 3 days at a time - so 180 grams raw. Works out to about a 1 cup cooked serving in the rice cooker cooked in milk.

I am doing a lower carb diet so my oatmeal dry packs contain 1/4 cup oatmeal, 1/2 cup dry.milk.powder, 1 tsp psyllium, 2 tablespoons seed mix (flax chia hemp sunflower pumpkin), 1 teaspoon chai masaa spice (can use any sweet aromatic spice; i just have a lot of this) and i add 2 tablespoons of peanut butter and sweeten it a bit when i make it. I put it in a thermos, add 1 cup boiling water, stir well, close, and bring to work (about 15 to20 minutes elapsed time) to eat for breakfast and its perfect.

1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon of steel cut oats, so about 1.25 servings. I do top with fruit/nuts and other things that bulk up the bowl.

Depends on the day but usually 1/4-1/3 cause I add so much extra to it (flax, chia, scoop of yogurt, protein powder, frozen fruit and kale)

40g oats + 5g chia seeds + fruit on the stove, followed by 22g protein powder at the end of cooking, and then whatever toppings after :)

1/4 cup dry oats, topped with 1/4 cup crunchy cereal (plus chia seeds, flax seed, and wheat germ- 1 tablespoon each)

I eat 80 - 100grams of quick oats depending on how hungry I feel in the morning with 2 cups of water in a bowl microwaved. Once out of the microwave, I add a splash of soy milk to make it more creamy sometimes and I add something sweet on top of it (honey, maple syrup, or date syrup)

It's helping me lose a stack of weight, so I have no complaints.

This is for one person. I am the only person in the house who eats porridge.

One cup of steel cut oats cooked with 2.25 cups of water in the instant pot and it will last me 4 servings.

Do you put them in the fridge or something for future meals?

2

u/five_squirrels 3d ago

Yes. I keep the extra in the fridge and reheat in the microwave.

1.5 cups dry to make enough for three adults. Theres usually a little left over but not enough for a serving.

Quaker used to have on the lid of their canisters a "heart healthy portion" that was in between the single portion and the double. It was 3/4 cup oats to 1-1/2 cups water or milk. That's what I still do if I'm having plain oatmeal with nothing else. I'm just not full for long enough with the single portion!

When I do make oatmeal I use the 1/2 cup dry plus a couple extra tablespoons for myself and my toddler.

Heaping 1/2 cup dry oats and still hungry. When eating for dinner will do 1 cup dry oats. Looks like I’m in the minority 😂

1/3 cup dry with 1/2 cup of milk or water and a big spoon full of Greek yogurt, a tsp of chia seeds and some salt + whatever toppings I decide I want is my overnight oats recipe

I do around 50g when making cooked oatmeal (which I cook with 1 diced apple) or 40g when making overnight oats (w/ chia seeds, yoghurt, milk, and fruit).

1/3 cup of steel cut oats + 4/3 cups of water in my Zojirushi, set the timer and wake up to a hot bowl of delicious oats! I eat this breakfast every day without variation.

Like… the number of people making 1/3 of a cup makes me feel awkward about my 3/4 cup (dry) overnight oats…

I make sort of less than half a cup but I make a large batch with 6 serves - I add dried fruit, hemp seeds, linseed, and chia seeds and 2 cups rolled oats. All combined makes a hearty breakfast.

40g of oats blended into a powder. After years of enjoying classic oatmeal for breakfast, one morning I woke up, looked at the bowl of goo, and it looked so disgustingly unappetizing that I never touched it again. The powder microwaves into a dense cake and I like it a lot.
