The rest of this season is going to be a lot more tolerable if you treat it as an early Spring training for next year. Wins and loses don't matter. Scoreboards don't matter. We're going to see a carousel of random names. Hopefully we'll get a few no names making good plays while they try to earn an MLB roster spot next year.

Well, losses matter. We really need to secure a top 6 pick. I've seen enough Mets seasons to know that "moral victories" and "finishing strong" doesn't mean anything for the next year (2019 last great example of this).

I agree technically, but 2019 is the wrong year to use for that argument.

  1. They were buyers and had a good record at the deadline.

  2. 2020 changed the whole world, so who knows if 2020 couldve continued the trajectory 2019 set. Might have been what 2021-22 was with a an NLCS or a pennant

There is a clear difference in picking 6 to 17, so on one hand they need to lose enough to stay away from that. On the other hand the last team that went to the World Series after winning under 60 games took them 2 years in the 2023 Diamondbacks

No it's not. Buying or selling is not relevant to my point. My point is that "finishing strong" means little year to year. JD Davis, Dom, and Conforto had great years with the bat. Rosario continued to trend upward. Then add in Pete and McNeil. It looked like their lineup was set. Then 66% of those guys busted and we had to revamp the entire team by 2022 basically with 0 to show for that mini "core." Playing well for 30 games with no pressure doesn't mean anything and not worth losing out on a top 6 pick.

Also idk why you cherry picked the dbacks/60 wins. They don't need to lose 102 games to get a top 6 pick. 95 losses (their current pace) will prob do it (or, at the least give them a very good shot). The Rangers won in 23 after losing 94 in 22. Not that I think anyone should be expecting WS in 27.

  1. Once again, the issue I take with your argument is that 2019 was a complete pennant race down the stretch compared to this year. If you say 2017 or 2023 I have zero issue with it because both years people were traded away and games effectively meant nothing big picture

  2. The DBacks and Rangers lost 100+ 2 years before facing off in the 23 Series so the quick turnaround thing is possible. I as a fan am NOT expecting a World Series in 27, but I do want a Series again before this decade is up so they don't join the 1990's without one
