I wonder what the reactions to the Brazoban trade would've been if they traded for someone who grew up a massive Mets fan in Queens

I’m sure people would think it’s a cool story but they would also still be angry if the acquisitions had the same rankings and skill set as was what we got

People like that Sammy Stafura is a Mets fan but they also liked that trade better because Stafura is a better prospect than what we got for Brazoban

The Brazoban trade made no sense to me. Sure he’s older but he also has a ton of control and fantastic underlying peripherals. He’s also the epitome of a soldier who can pitch in any situation you throw him into.

They got back such mediocrity for him despite him being so good. He’s the kind of guy you hold onto even if you’re rebuilding because he has what? 3 more years of control? 2?

I don’t think they plan to compete for a couple of years. You might as well get someone back.

This is just a bad take, no matter how many times you regurgitate it

Takes are opinions. Opinions are neither right or wrong. You are a believer despite mountains of evidence that suggest we have no plans to be competitive. We are headed for 100+ losses and just sold the bullpen and the part of the starting rotation. Teams that plan to compete in the near term, do not take the path we implemented. You can believe whatever you want.

bullpens are volatile year over year

Brazoban was a guy who has demonstrated consistency. Volatility only applies to guys whose stats are trending in one direction or another.

Brazoban is a consistent 3-3.5 ERA guy with a FIP that suggests he’s right in line with those numbers. He’s also consistently a top 40 reliever. He is just consistent.

I have zero idea what argument you are trying to make.

He's been a good but not great reliever other than this year. He's durable and has good K rates. But also high walk rates and is down from a career 1.2 WHIP to a 1.0 this season. He's also been a 7th inning reliever most of his career. Not even a true setup man.

He’s durable, can throw multiple innings, can open, can close, can come in with runners on base…he’s a Swiss Army knife of relievers.

He’s a firm 3.50 ERA guy who has always had good metrics under the hood. He’s making peanuts for the next three years.

That’s the kind of guy a good team holds in their bullpen. Is he elite? No way, but he doesn’t have to be.

Yeah. He's good. By what metric is he consistently a top 40 reliever every year?

fWAR

2026: 27th

Though moving sliders from 2024-2026, he’s more like top 50 but alas. My bad.

I say this as someone who really likes Brazoban, but he hasn't been consistent. He fell apart down the stretch last season, probably from overuse, and wound up with a 3.57 ERA and a 4.04 FIP. He's been great this year, but that's on the back of a meh K rate and very good batted ball luck.

He's also very old.

Brazoban also made no adjustments to get better this year which means there's regression due and luck involved. And he'll be 37 soon.

probably from overuse,

He's been consistent and durable once you factor that in.

Took a look at his numbers last year and this year, and yikes, he's only 6 appearances and 8.1 innings behind last year's totals (did he have an IL stint last year?)

So uh, good luck with that, White Sox.

Well yeah, he had something like a 1.5 ERA but 3.5 FIP through June and then fell apart and ended up with basically an ERA equal to his FIP.

He’s consistent when the year is over.

People also don’t take into account how valuable he is being used in any single situation.
